  • The first reviews of Disney's Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser are in, and the media seems to be baffled by the price point. Also it's clear that this is designed for rich Reylos who like to LARP. If you're rich, bored and love The Last Jedi... this one is for YOU! If that's your thing, by all means drop $6,000. It's your money. But for Star Wars fans who aren't Disney Star Wars Sequel Trilogy fans... you might want to buy some primo OT merch instead.

We're talking 14 days, sailing from New York to Southampton and back to New York (old school, 20th century cruise). They should have made this like a 4 - 6 hour experience. Charge like a $100 - $120 per person and do two "shows" a day. Limit the capacity to about a hundred people per show so every one gets to participate.
Done. It would sell out every day.
You can still have all the same activities but sprinkle in and hide more plot elements for people to discover and and participate in. Generally just make it a more interactive experience not a hotel.
This would have been an execution that would have had shelf life for many many years. Think a longer more in depth Medieval Times. It would booked as part of a standard Disney trip. One day in the park one day for this Star Wars experience.

Just not Chrome with holoroom tech like star trek. Look at most of the prequel and sequel trilogies, the Clone Wara series, everything in the Old Republic, etcetc. Its a planet to planet thing, but you have to look at this as a Corasaunt luxury cruiser, not a rebel starfighter.

      Because.....it isn't.
I've been spreading this around a lot, but I would have totally shilled out 6 or 10 thousand dollars if the 'star liner' was a 'star cruiser' from the original trilogy or clone wars (screw Episode one and its space battle). I pick a side; Republic/Separatist, Empire/Rebellion.
Spend two or three days 'aboard' and learn my station, behind a turbo laser or anti-fighter gun. I mean, the bunks look like something you'd serve on in a real military vessel. Cramped cabins, small beds, lousy food that somehow moves on its own, just like most of my family and friends describe their time in the Navy.
One day you could be called to fighter service, for a short battle, and for that, I'd choose the Rebellion, as I've always wanted one of those Helmets- OH YEAH! And for 6-10 thousand, I'd better damn well get my own custom made uniform and flight suit!
For the Uniforms, I prefer the Republic, also I want a Republic 'cover' (as this is 'military' terminology), I have a.....I think Rebellion, can't tell really between the Rebellion and Resistance, and have both Imperial Naval and Storm trooper uniforms covers. It seems like Disney is ignoring the other two trilogies, in terms of merchandise.
Anyways, the last day is the big battle, behind that turbo laser, either operating or giving orders, fighting, or with a boarding craft with (Republic, Separatist, Rebellion, Imperial) Marines and boarding the other ship to raid it.
I would have shilled 6-10 thousand dollars for that.....with a take home, custom made Uniform.....damn it.

It looks like Disney's "Imagineers" went to the local dollar store, stocked up on anything and everything that remotely looked sci-fi-ish, slapped that on run-of-the-mill, stock corporate furniture bought in bulk at a warehouse clearance sale and said, "Good enough."

You know what would have been a really cool idea for a SW hotel? How about a Jedi Temple? Or the Sith Academy on Corriban? Because you know when you say SW most people picture Jedi and Sith! Not "luxurious" enough of a theme? Ok why not a Hutt Pleasure Palace then? Instantly recognizable, for stronger connection to Starwars and its lore, and the templets for them are all already there from various SW media!

I wouldn't do this experience in it's current state. Too expensive for not-enough original-trilogy theming. This is what they SHOULD have made: Senario - You and your party are citizens of a small settlement near mos-isley. Storm troopers land in your town because you are suspected rebel spies. With prisoner-transport ships, they take you to the death star to interrogate everyone but there are so many they have to detain you for two days in the "hotel"). The rooms are then accommodating but themed to an imperial prison from which you have to escape with help from REAL star wars characters like Han and Luke. The ending would have the classic battle between obi-wan and vader, C-3PO and R2-D2 would be there, mouse droids running around, CLASSIC STORMTROOPER COSTUMES not the new episode 7 ones. Basically I want Disney to take Rise of the Resistance and turn that one ride into a two day experience themed to original trilogy.

There is an easy way to have added value to this that would have had fans talking. They should have allowed the passengers to be able to acquire (or even, for this price, be given for free) exclusive items that would be awesome. Depending on the paths they chose, they should be able to receive things like ultra rare kyber crystals like those black crystals. Or they should be given exclusive scrap metal pieces to make their savi's lightsabers that much more unique. Or if you choose first order, the passengers should be given rank insigina, that might encourage them to purchase First Order uniforms. Then, if yo go back and do the same path again, perhaps they could have a storyline where you can be promoted, and earn a higher rank. And for me, that legacy lightsaber that is exclusive for the starcruiser really should have been much more aesthetically pleasing. They should have designed it to be a highly coveted item; something that looks as awesome as a Count Dooku, a Mace Windu or a Leia lightsaber. But for me, that lightsaber is so bland and so boring, much like the rest of the starcruiser, that for me, it is ultimately forgettable.

I'm sure those at the top decided to cheap out on things from what was probably originally planned for the Starcruiser and they are the ones who decided to set it within a certain timeperiod. It's like in Galaxy's Edge, one of the imagineers explained how they copied the droid tracks from the movies (like replicated from the actual droid including the droids from the original movies) and ran those throughout the land. I love details like that.

Granted I can see how the blueberry wouldn’t look the shade of blue we expect from blue milk. Heck making it an ice cream out of it would be interesting. This would mix up the menu. Throw in some colored boba, jellies or other toppings and call them something that fits in Star Wars lore.

I will be interested to see reviews from people who have had to pay for the experience. I appreciate the preview videos, but expectations and conclusions definitely shift when real money is involved. It's sad that many of the "activities" and character interactions on board this exclusive ship were originally designed and planned for guests at Galaxy's Edge. At GE everyone could enjoy, but now only a very select few families could be a part of what was supposed to be part of your park entrance fee to Hollywood Studios. To me, the interior looks like Seth McFarlane's TV show "The Orville". I find it interesting that some have pointed out how "generic" this storyline and experience can be. As a life-long SW fan, I can honestly say that this is NOT SW at all. I hate to sound so negative, but it is unfortunate that Disney thinks this is the future. Again, Disney has lost its cutting-edge vision for attractions and has just recreated a very expensive dinner party. Why is this such a female-dominated experience? It seems like it is Disney's continued effort to remove masculinity from their messaging. There is no greater supporter of female empowerment than I am, but this seems off-putting. The messaging in both the experience and even the music is all about inclusivity (We are One Galaxy), yet this experience is designed to exclude 99% of the average population. Very sad!!!!

why shouldn't we get the OT? it's the only SW that can stand on its own merits. even the prequels can't say that. the sequels are so full of member berries that to dunk on the OT is hilariously clueless.
loving the sequels above the OT is saying you're not a *real* SW fan without saying it. then they'll call fans gate-keepers, but what it really is is robbing them of their, for lack of a better term, stolen valor. 'this is *my* 'star wars'!' only because you're impressionable while it came out, there is no other reason, so you'll latch some kind of 'ownership' to that. but, given that the new stuff depends so heavily on the originals, taking their characters and situations, and even copying the originals, they don't really have much argument against the people who want the OT. they know they'll have a better time with the OT, too, and that's got to be irksome knowing 'their' SW is terrible.
even most OT fans will admit this whole franchise is held together by 'the empire strikes back' above all others.

The point about introverts is an excellent one. And you have to consider how this price compares - not only to the Disney Cruise - but to the price versus VR headets, games, and even a home theater. Part of what makes a public attraction work is for people not only to come - but to come back again and again. This factor is what keeps the entertainment market afloat. If you don't pull that off, how long does your product maintain customers? The answer is obvious - not long.
