  • This video is about fixing a 1999 Miata clutch pedal. The plastic stopper for the clutch switch breaks over time and needs to be replaced. Here's a super cheap fix for it.
    On a side note: I now work at Mazda. If you're in the market for a vehicle, new or used, contact me through here.

    Thanks, I leveraged this with the same issue. I used 3 dimes wrapped in electric tape to try to simulate the same thickness. But I also ordered the replacement part for $5 since I know my tape will likely slowly loosen with the Georgia heat/humidity. If anyone wants the part number for the nb, (at least for sure 1999), it is part # 43-029 (No 2)

    I had the joy of finding broken pieces of blue candy in a car i just bought. Now I know know why and how to lose the clicky sound :)

    If you have a 'CLICK' sound, and your rubber button is intact, simply adjust the length of the clutch-master-cylinder push-rod for no more than 0.1 inch (this is just a "tad" of play) and that will solve the click; you will need a 10mm open-end wrench and a 12mm open-end wrench, throw a moving blanket on the garage floor, slide under there just a bit (face-up) and break that lock-nut loose with the 10mm and 12mm; then rotate that rod till it bottoms-out (snug), then back it off about a quarter-turn, and then lock it down again with the lock-nut; DONE. Now test-drive it; the click can happen after 15 years or after you replace the master-cylinder (clutch). If this does not fix it, you may have a broken bushing on the push-rod 'foot' where it connects to the clutch-pedal arm. There is a great drawing of this in the service manual or in the parts manual.

    This exact thing happened on my miata. I just put a screw and a bolt through it. When it happened I thought someone had thrown candy in my car when I saw the blue pieces. Then I heard the clicking and found out what had happened. This video would have helped.

      Around 1:26 mark I change the camera angle. The camera is on the floor pointed up toward the pedal and switch. There is a small metal flange behind the clutch pedal where the blue plastic piece is supposed to be. If broken, there will only be a hole where the piece attaches to the flange. This is where I use the dime and tape to cover the hole.

    what does that switch do?

    • @davidiwaoka4146
      @davidiwaoka4146 Před 5 lety +1

      My understanding is that the switch is a sensor for the cruise control. My guess is that it turns off the cruse control when you depress the pedal. I was not aware that these simple cars would have a cruise control. Evidently they do. If your CC does not work, replacing the bump stop would fix that problem.

      Big help. Clicking started yesterday and I found a blue rubber disc on the floor but did not put it together. Now I can make that annoying noise go away.
