- This video is about fixing a 1999 Miata clutch pedal. The plastic stopper for the clutch switch breaks over time and needs to be replaced. Here's a super cheap fix for it.

Thanks, I leveraged this with the same issue. I used 3 dimes wrapped in electric tape to try to simulate the same thickness. But I also ordered the replacement part for $5 since I know my tape will likely slowly loosen with the Georgia heat/humidity. If anyone wants the part number for the nb, (at least for sure 1999), it is part # 43-029 (No 2)
I had the joy of finding broken pieces of blue candy in a car i just bought. Now I know know why and how to lose the clicky sound :)
If you have a 'CLICK' sound, and your rubber button is intact, simply adjust the length of the clutch-master-cylinder push-rod for no more than 0.1 inch (this is just a "tad" of play) and that will solve the click; you will need a 10mm open-end wrench and a 12mm open-end wrench, throw a moving blanket on the garage floor, slide under there just a bit (face-up) and break that lock-nut loose with the 10mm and 12mm; then rotate that rod till it bottoms-out (snug), then back it off about a quarter-turn, and then lock it down again with the lock-nut; DONE. Now test-drive it; the click can happen after 15 years or after you replace the master-cylinder (clutch). If this does not fix it, you may have a broken bushing on the push-rod 'foot' where it connects to the clutch-pedal arm. There is a great drawing of this in the service manual or in the parts manual.
hahaja once i saw the shade of blue i suddenly remembered that exact piece
simple Rubber Grommet from Lowes worked 100% quick and easy. for a whole 96cents.
5/16x5/8x5/8x7/16
Lowes item# 423532
This is a long shot.because your post is 3 years old. But how did you attach the grommet? TY
This exact thing happened on my miata. I just put a screw and a bolt through it. When it happened I thought someone had thrown candy in my car when I saw the blue pieces. Then I heard the clicking and found out what had happened. This video would have helped.
haha same here! I thought the previous owner liked blue candies, though. lol
What does the switch do? Not sure if I've even got one on my '93. Thank you for the vid.
you do and it can fuck up your cruis control
cheers bud. but i haVnt got CC
I don't know exactly where it goes cant really see in the video..where?
Around 1:26 mark I change the camera angle. The camera is on the floor pointed up toward the pedal and switch. There is a small metal flange behind the clutch pedal where the blue plastic piece is supposed to be. If broken, there will only be a hole where the piece attaches to the flange. This is where I use the dime and tape to cover the hole.
what does that switch do?
My understanding is that the switch is a sensor for the cruise control. My guess is that it turns off the cruse control when you depress the pedal. I was not aware that these simple cars would have a cruise control. Evidently they do. If your CC does not work, replacing the bump stop would fix that problem.
The oem part is B00143029 black but any after market will work like Moss Miata have them in kind of blue for 4$
Big help. Clicking started yesterday and I found a blue rubber disc on the floor but did not put it together. Now I can make that annoying noise go away.
I am all about quick and EZ, but you're gonna nickel and dime your Miata???
NB... gross need more of that NA life
I'm willing to bet you've never had a car.
