Replacing clutch pedal pad on a Honda Prelude 2001

  • My Honda 2001 Prelude wasn't starting and I thought it would be the battery or starter but that wasn't the problem. The clutch and brake have a plastic pad that activates a switch. The clutch pedal had 2, one for the cruise control and the other one to start the car, this to make sure you press the clutch before you start.

I fixed in 15 min bro Thanks. Used a flathead screwdriver taped it to flat side removed the front seat 2-3 min. Lay down stuck the tip and wedge it in. Double check it was laying flat car start right on.

THANK YOU!!! This was exactly the problem with my 1994 Honda Prelude SI!! I wasn’t able to work the chopsticks and gave up after more than a hour of dropping the thing and missing that hole (I have NO idea how you were able to use them!) but I hope this helps somebody...I finally drilled a very small hole thru the base of the new stopper, ran some fishing line thru that hole, then strung the fishing line thru the hole hole on the clutch to ultimately pull the new stopper into place! Used a flathead screwdriver to help lock it in!! Hope this saves somebody some time and headache!! You most definitely saved me a whole bunch of money!! Mad appreciation!!

I'm glad you got it, some times it takes a little creativity, I would never though about the fishing line, great idea. Other people used double side tape at the end of screen driver. You gotta use what you have available around you. Thank you for the comment.

I had the same issue with my 2001 civic. This kit from Doorman was under $10 Part No. C7043751312DOR
Slightly different install on the civic a bit easier and no need for special tools. The white pad is the front sensor and the round black one goes on the back. Thank you so much for this video, it save me a tow and mechanic bill!

I cannot believe that worked. You totally saved me from having to pull the entire pedal apart! Thank you! I added some rubber bands to make it grip a little more and it popped right in!

Thanks for the tip, I ended up using a long flat head screwdriver and taped it to the tip and jammed it in, took about 30 minutes but work liked a charm, I’m sure a mechanic would have charged a pretty penny

you've got to be the 1st guy in history to fix a car using chop sticks but at least it worked! I'm having the same issue w/my 04 Accord but I thought there was only 1 clutch safety switch. Didn't know there was another one in the back.

Sometimes you have to improvise, you can also use screw driver with double sided tape away the tip, good luck

Super helpful. I thought there was only one switch down low (intact), but now I know theres two, and naturally I got the pain in the a$$ one to fix. I got my chopsticks and you just saved me big money on a tow and the mechanic.

thx for this & props for being able to do this w/o taking the driver's seat out. I was not that lucky I had to take the seat out to fix this on a 97 civic

Just changed that with my friend, since it's hard to hold the clutch and tried to fit that rubber, I hold the clutch down from outside with a broom stick lol and it was easier lol😅

That chopsticks trick is genius. Maybe someone should sell a kit that does that. I was all ready to try it, but as it turns out, but my clutch and brake stops/buttons were intact. It turned out that I had a corroded connection from the starter switch to the starter. Wiggled it off and on a few times and it started right up.

This is what happened to my car. We thought it was a battery issue. Thankfully the battery on my car was still under warranty so we were able to replace it, and yet it turns out that wasn't the problem. Those little plastic things were the culprit! Who knew those small parts could cause the whole car to not turn on.

  • @SuperGinki
    @SuperGinki Před 3 lety

We tried to get that little stopper in ourselves before watching this video so we basically struggled. We used the bypass to start the car to take it to Honda to finish the job. They are saying the switch is bad, but I’m not getting confirmation that they tried positioning the clutch stop pad first. Think I’m going to need proof the stop pad didn’t fix the issue.

2 years later and I'm still too lazy to try the chop stick trick lol. Still riding with the shorted connector. I remembered this video because now my Dad's '00 Accord had the same problem. I will never understand why Honda didn't just use the flat metal instead of putting holes and plastic in there.

I had the same problem but that hole you're showing all the way in the back I didnt put anything there. That hole all the way in the front where that little push in button is I put a penny there with tape and now my car starts.. I'm not sure about the hole in the back where u were showing I didnt even know there was another hole. So where I put my penny what the hell is that for then?? Like I said before my car didnt want to start so the hole all the way in the front I put a penny there and shit started right up. I just bought those bushing to install that instead of a penny that seems to be working just fine. Guess if nobody has 5 to 9 bucks they can do it for free with a penny and tape. I replaced the penny with the actual clutch pedal stopper from autozone.
