  • Here's a new addition to my 1911 collection. Springfield EMP! Some may scratch their head at this model (because of the caliber). All I can say is my main purpose for this handgun is CCW. So weight, size, and performance are key. Let's see if it performs to expectation.

The EMP was actually designed around the .45 gap. When that cartridge failed in popularity they had all these made and figured it would be the perfect size for the 9mm and .40. Heard this on the Guns and Ammo tv show when they reviewed this gun. I own one in .40 and love love love it. Gonna get my wife a 9mm.

No the emp wasn't built on the 45 gap. They were saying the 1911 was originally built for the 45. The emp was specifically designed for the 9mm.

My EMP .40 cal is a touch (7ozs) heavier took some "break in" and now feeds and ejects like a well oiled machine, I put some self stick grip tape on front strap-overall I'm very pleased Great video!

I have carried an EMP 9mm almost every day for over two years. I love the gun. You need to send that gun back and let them polish the feedramp before you carry it. I have tried all kinds of hollow points in my gun, avoid the hollow points with sharp edges like federal HST. It has never failed me with 147 gr Winchester Ranger T RA9T. Good Choice, 9 mm is more than enough for self defense. Size matters, big guns are uncomfortable, i can carry my EMP all day and forget that it is even there.

Dude I'm in the market for an EMP or Kimber Aegis / CDP 9mm Ultra. Would you still recommend the EMP? Any other issues besides break-in? any info would be helpful. Thanks bro.

My Springfield was tight and springs in my magazines were hard to load compared to the Glocks I've carried in the past
But after 200 rounds it Runs like a Rolax and it's Very Accurate

I am a proponent of practicing with what you are going to carry. It can be pricey but you need to know what issues you might encounter. There are cartridges, of 9mm, that can be very effective as stopping rounds so I don't discount the nine. I carry the 45 myself.

Federal HST is my favorite HP, i use it in my USP's but for a 1911 is a big gamble, I tried 100 rounds thru my EMP and one Failed to Feed, the round is long and very sharp and it got caught in the feed ramp, there is less chance that it will malfunction with RA9T, that round is shorter and not as sharp. HST may work in your gun, i was just looking for the most reliable round to feed my EMP, i have a 1% failure rate with HST, it has never failed me with RA9T, just a thought.

I had one of these in layaway but ended up cancling it and got a Glock 27, S&W 642, And a Glock 17 insted for a great package deal (All Used Of Course But All In Excelent Shape) Far Cheaper Than The EMP would Have Cost Me But The EMP Is Awsome

Most 1911's need a break in period. If they don't then it probably a cheap 1911. I have a $1500 semi-custom Dan Wesson, which needed a short break in period. Haven't had a FTF ever since.

To everybody i've heard say the 9mm or even the .380 sucks, my answer has always been this.
Be my target at 15 yards the next time i go to the range....haven't found anyone willing to do so yet...there is a chance i could miss!!!
