- In this video I talk about the issues with the performance of the Springfield Armory Ronin EMP 1911 3" model in 9mm. I bought this brand new when it was released. The magazines say they hold 9 rounds but with 9 you really have to jam the magazine into the frame to get the magazine to lock in place. I had repeated failures to feed & it caused some damage to the frame of the pistol. This pistol doesn't have the feed ramp as part of the frame but rather the feed ramp is part of the barrel. Seems to be some clearance issues with the fitment of the frame and the barrel and or the magazine. The ammo I have used for years and is brand new 115gr brass cased 9mm. I use the same ammo in CZ and Glock without issues.
My emp 3 is from 2007. I am third owner. Free work on feed ramp, sights and free shipping back and forth. I love this company. Fast response. I emailed CZ two weeks ago with no reply yet.
might want to email dan wesson now that they own CZ. customer service was immediate and it only was gone a few weeks and was delivered right back to my front door
I haven’t shot mine CA version yet but initially I was trying to put all 9 rd in, and if the slide wasn’t locked back, it’s like I need to slam the mag into the gun, and then I tried to let the slide in slowly, it cause the critical defense dive nose and jammed, and I must have either using the slide release or pull the slide all the way to the back so it feeds. And I saw many saying they can’t put all 9 rds in with the closed slide unless slamming the pad
@Larry-ds6ib yeah same mags don't fit 9nlike intended as website says.
Just got my emp today. Went to the range. Love the way it shoots. I like it more than the hellcat pro. But the ammo jammed multiple times during my first 50 round with federal ammo 115 grain. I can recall at least 5 times. And only 8 rounds for my 9 round mag 😂
Yeah I got it back today and I still have to take it to the range and see if I get the same failures again.
@@erik22laxWondering what did to fix the problem, hopefully it’s no longer an issue .I’m seriously considering buying this firearm myself
@propblast82nd several people have commented similar issues with failure to feed so not sure it's a good buy bc it is turning out to be kind of a lemon
@@erik22lax Thanks, I will likely just get something else
I would say it is an ammo issue. 9mm 1911s sometimes require longer rounds, think something like 147 grain versus 115. Now, not all higher grains are longer bullets. Wilson for instance suggests heavier grain bullets since those cartridges are longer. Longer rounds don't get hung up on the frame.
Ronin full size is a steel frame gun. That’s why they have the feed ramp on the frame.
A feed ramp on an aluminum frame (ronin Emp) will be more likely to get damaged from hollow points. The barrel on the Emp is not aluminum. Which is why they have a feed ramp on the barrel instead of the frame.
I have 2 Ronin 3in and the 4in and both have been sent back for warranty work. The first was the 4in after I got it back it took it to the range and wow it is a totally different shooter now so much better but I havent taken the 3in back to the range yet. The 3in was supposed to be my EDC so glad I took it to the range before I carried it and it not function. Both had the same problem would no take hollow points at all and all the feed jams. The 3in was by far the worse failure to extract the spent round and trying to feed the next. T he 3in would even push the factory mag back out after the first shot. Springfield customer service has been awesome but I dont think this should be happening to a gun that has been produced by a manufacturer that has been making them for as long as they have
I haven't taken mine back to the range after the warranty work. I am going to lube the piss out of it and hope for the best. I hate to say it but this model is kind of a lemon 🍋. Disappointing.
@@erik22lax I was thinking the same thing. I watched a ton videos on the 3in before my purchase because I wanted it for EDC and was so disappointed in it but after the 4in came back from them I was like wow this thing is awesome I am hoping the 3in is just as good There service Departments is very good from the people that answer the emails to the gun smithing but this shouldn't even be a problem at all quality control just sucks
My EMP 3 (not a Ronin) older model is very finicky about ammo. Feeds and shoots flawlessly with Winchester 124 grain NATO. FTF with many 115 grains.
yeah it is turning out to be a lemon 🍋
You will be Fine .long as you are the Frist buyer of the gun. U probably have to ship it back for warranty repair. Wild they (SA) have it if you have the money let them do the upgrades like Magwell front checkering and NIGHT SIGHTS like on the TRP
yep got to ship it back to SA which is no big deal just thankful it was under warranty as i am the original purchaser
@@erik22lax o ok good. Are u going to let them do the upgrades wild they do the warranty work?
No
Springfield does not care how many previous owners there are. Send it in. Warranty work is through the custom shop. They will fix it. It will be better than new
@@erik22lax why not?
Beautiful gun and shoot great. Just too many reliability issues to be a carry gun.
bought it to be a carry gun though so it kind of irritates me its a range queen at best
@@erik22lax I want one so bad as my carry. But they just seem unreliable. I cant do it.
EMP has some issues for sure. Loved the looks but had to let it go...
Whenever I purchase a new pistol of any type I do not load the mags fully.
Springs need to break in. They wear from use. Simply leaving them loaded doesn’t matter. Springs need to be sprung and unsprung for wear.
I’ll load until I feel resistance then stop.
Usually after a few mags of shooting I can fully load them.
I’m not saying this was your issue, just a habit I’ve picked up over the years.
That ledge between the barrel and ramp would concern me too.
Springfield will do you right.
