  • Springfield Armory "Ronin" a custom shop quality 1911 without the custom shop price. This Ronin 1911 sports a forged stainless lower and forged carbon steel slide with a hammer forged barrel and is as smooth as butter. The Ronin is available in the usual .45ACP but this particular one is chambered in 9mm and is every bit as reliable as the originals.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Bout 2 Wilson Combat 10 rd mags for it (it came with 1 Springfield 9 rnd). Cleaned and lubed it, took it to the range yesterday. 200 rds through it 4 different types of ammo including my carry ammo. I had 1 FTE the third round that was shot an using the factory mag. After that functioned flawlessly no matter what mag I was using. Great groups, nice sights, I was shooting 8" shoot-n-sees at 25yds. Shot so much I had to let it cool down!!!! 9mm recoil very tame, right back on target. So far I love it.

I'm going on 40yrs of messin with 1911's and though i have fired darn near atleast one of each make that i can think of, the SA production 1911's just seem to shoot the best, a few, like the operator have the accuracy of hand fitted pistols right out of the box. I'm not a fan of SA as a company but they do something right with their 1911's that i just can't ignore.

I have some seriously high quality 1911's that don't outperform my springfields.

Very nice pistol and good review. I found this while looking for information on the Ronin. New subscriber but not new to guns or 1911s. IME Springfield typically is the sweet spot for 1911s. Good solid performers at reasonable pricing. Some others are more expensive. Some others are less expensive. I haven't found another brand of 1911 that blends quality construction and price as well.

1911 is an icon. Well made and attractive with history. Possibly the best gun for the 45 acp and one of the better ones for 10mm. When it comes to 9mm pistols however we are spoiled for choice with so many wonder 9 options out there.
Bottom line, if you go with a 1911 9mm it s a perfectly fine choice, especially for target and pleasure shooting but it's not necessarily the best in terms of fighting efficiency and self defense.

When a Glock is "cocked and locked" the striker isnt even all the way back, the striker is only pulled back and released when you pull the trigger back to the wall. So it cant be safer then a glock at least. Not sure if other striker fired handguns work the same or not.
