  • Are you an INTP or an INFP? For those unfamiliar, these acronyms are two of the sixteen MBTI types, also known as the Myers-Briggs type indicators. The combinations INTP and INFP are among the rarest out there, making up roughly around 3% and 5% of the population respectively. If you ever wondered whether you are an INFP or INTP, we will share with you five key differences to help you tell these two types apart.
DISCLAIMER: The Myers-Briggs type indicator is not a strict set of rules but rather a general framework that can help guide you to understand your personality better. If you want a proper MBTI evaluation, visit licensed professionals to help you understand yourself better.

I have tested INTP and INFP at different times, and let me tell you, I believe it; I relate to literally every statement in this video. The INTP in me will start debates with people...and the INFP in me will hate myself for disrupting the peace... I'm a writer, often plotting out all the details and themes of the world I write...but when it comes time to actually write the story, I literally just sit down and start typing, without thinking too much about the structure of the story, quite literally making it up as I go along.
I sometimes think the T and F in me are in constant war...lord knows how it'll end...

As an INFP, I could still relate to both the personalities how they're depicted in this video. INFPs can be analytical too and they aren't really those little sunshines like described here. Sometimes they may seem childish or naive, but they have a lot of thought going on inside and being childlike is a good way to hide from having to accept the world that is just too strict with everything. They are sensitive, really sensitive, but they aren't helpless, they're just holding back most of the time because they don't want to hurt the other person with what they know can and will hurt them emotionally.
    ...I'll make a cut here.
Thanks for reading I just can't get over being depicted as sunny and lovely as this seems lol

Sooo....get this yo....we are all Children at our core, and life is, by and large, not something that demands 'seriousness' in order for u to live tour best life. Very, very few things in life are anywhere near being justifiably labeled as 'serious'. Plaufullness, cgild-like imagination, wonder, excitement, the mystery of the unknown, the call to adventure! Light-hearted loving empathy with silliness in great abundance seems like the best way to be in life if u ask me!! Serious people be thinking the most ridiculous shit be of upmost importance and trumps all of that 'childishness'...then society goes and backs up that insanity. I Say no more!! • @busylizzy349
      @busylizzy349 Před rokem

You consider them a waste of time because you are too arrogant and whiney to notice that you don't need to be a bottle in the river going through life. That's why you don't work and that's why you don't have an effect. You just rationalize your awkwardness with "waste of time", instead of becoming rational. To make matters worse, you yourself just described a negative feedback loop, where you yourself show how with your own decision-making you condemn yourself to suffering. Yes, you did. I don't understand why anyone would want to become intellectually dead by their own choice, locked into their dogmas that have no translation into reality. I lied. Just don't ever blame others for things that seem obvious to you, because propably you are the one in the wrong. I won't say what I deduced this answer from. I'm just worried that someday you'll ask me how to do something, I'll tell you, then you'll do the opposite because you're doing what you want and you'll still be mad at me. Because I was right. Good luck. Good luck in solving your first problem. Good luck solving your first problem before it escalates into dragging others into your one-man horror show from thread B. That's what I wish for you. Because I already know. The only thing I don't know is when. If you don't change the status quo, you're in a negative feedback loop that involves resistance to status quo change and stalled development. You will start to think that the world is hurting you when you are hurting yourself. And you will hurt others because you considered discussions a waste of time. But you'll get absolutely nothing out of it. After all, it's a waste of time.

  • @lishayost444
    @lishayost444 Před 2 lety +1176

For those who aren't sure which one you are, learn about the cognitive functions.
    INTP:
    Introverted Thinking
    Extraverted Intuition
    Introverted Sensing
    Extraverted Feeling
    INFP:
    Introverted Feeling
    Extraverted Intuition
    Introverted Sensing
    Extraverted thinking.
INFPs and INTPs are similar in ways because the positions of their Ne and Si are the same.
So the differences are in the Ti/Fe for INTPs and Fi/Te for INFPs.
The reason you can oscillate between being a thinker and a feeler is because we all have a "thinking" function and a "feeling" function. Everyone has emotions and values. But INFPs are more in tune with their own emotions/values and INTPs are more affected by others' emotions/values (albeit awkwardly). INFPs form their logic and reason based on popular data from outside themselves (and this is not their strong suit, but it's also not impossible). INTPs tend to form their own subjective logical framework based on all the information they've obtained up to this point throughout their entire lives, along with their own personal experience and what makes the most sense to them based on all of that.
Our thinking and feeling functions are just the things that determine our decision making process. Do you make decisions based on what seems to be most logical/rational to you (Ti/INTP), or do you make decisions based on your personal values (Fi/INFP)? Also take into account that an INTP has extraverted feeling, so that will play a part in the decision making process, caring about how their decision might affect others (but this will be secondary to what is logical to them, and if they make their decision based solely on how it might make others feel but going completely against what they think is rational, it will not feel like a good decision and it will feel like a part of them is dying inside).
INFPs can also care about how their decisions might affect others, but that is only if one of their personal values is to care about how they affect others, which of course can often be the case... this is why it is so confusing. INFPs are probably trickier than INTPs because anyone can have any personal values. Someone with introverted feeling as their top function could have logic and rationality as one of their core values. But INFPs are much more likely to not do things they simply do not want to do.
As an INTP, I barely know what my likes and values are, but for the things I do like/value, I can give reasons for all of them. From my experience with INFPs, they tend to have very strong values, but when you ask why they have those values, it is often very vague, or when you ask why they like something, often it is just something along the lines of, "I don't know, I just do." This is generally speaking.
Just remember that just because you hate math and science, it doesn't mean you're not an INTP, and just because you like poetry/music, etc, it doesn't mean you're not an INTP. And vice versa. The personality types are based on how our brains work, which will play a role in what we like/dislike, but not 100%. Think about how your brain works. There is no "right" answer, and no cognitive function is better than another, just different. And no two people are exactly alike. You are you, no matter what your type is.

The best explanation out there. I hate how people box personality types based on stereotypes, like INTPs seem like the smart type so I'm sure they love Math and Science while F types are so nice and sympathetic. I've been so confused about my MBTI since I've always had INTP with all scoring at least 80% consistently. But I'm pretty good with handling people, so am I an F then? But I am very rational with decision making to the point that even if I don't want to do it but it's the most logical action I'll do it. But anyway, these kind of explanations help clarify that MBTIs are kind of like a basic guidelines, but not really a specific kind of profiling that narrows people down into flat 2D characters as if we've got no individuality at all.

  • @JFrombaugh
    @JFrombaugh Před rokem +54

I'm an INFP who often scored as both types depending on the test. I have also had many people tell me they thought I was an INTP based on my overall vibe.
The thing that helped me was understanding that F is not necessarily decision making based on emotions, but your own feelings. It's very much subjective & personal criteria, as opposed to T's objective criteria. Both T & F are rational functions, they just operate based on different criteria. Looking at it that way, it was easy for me to figure out that I use Fi & not Ti.

Sometimes even I get confused about who I am? I can be very rational at times but I also use values and morals too. I even get confused if I am infj or infp.
I want to tell you that don't let those four letters judge you. It's okay if you sometimes feel emotions and are typed as a thinking type. There are billions of people in the world and no matter how rare your type is you have still got a million like you out there but that doesn't mean everyone are same, right?

  • @UnsuspectingCommenterPassingBy

I always get typed INTP / INFP on traditional tests and INFJ on cognitive functions, but through more “careful” (obsessive) analysis I think I might be an INTP. I relate a lot to aspects from both and though I consider myself an empathetic person, I’m not amazing at dealing with emotions. Everytime people tell me about their problems, I can always see a solution but my attempts at emotionally supporting them don’t always come out right.
I’ve also always preferred learning on my own because I just can’t take information and apply it without making sense of it and breaking it down into a set of principles (otherwise I just forget about it later). Whether it’s my hobbies, what other people are doing or my own thoughts, I’m always analyzing everything in one way or another, so I often find myself observing what I’m doing through the lens of a teacher or a critic while learning something and I find that to be much more effective than just being told how to do things.

INTP here with an INFP partner. Idk why they're not considered an good match romantically. However, I will say that the INTP will have to do a greater amount of work to understand their partner and might not get that same understanding in return, or as quickly. It's important for an INTP to develop themselves emotionally before they engage romantically with an INFP. It's also important to maintain individuality and set boundaries.

For me, Feelings and Logic are exactly 50:50 (so in the test it was 51:49 or the other way around) and interestingly I see myself exactly between both types.
The video makes it easier to understand the whole thing.
Point 1-2: I'm definitely more with INTP, with 3 definitely with INFP, with 4 I'm in conflict with both types, and with 5 I'm more with INFP (but it's also more of a mixture)...

INTPs aren't unemotional. We have emotions. We just resent having to perform them in a certain way before they are acknowledged as valid. Just because our face doesn't match what the social bell curve says it should look like when a person feels "love" or "sadness" or "joy" doesn't mean we're not feeling it.

But she disappeared after they had checked on it. My sister and I went looking for it. After a lot of efforts we finally heard that she was still inside that "cavity" and we finally found her! (complex process but irrelevant here)
Guess what? My INFP sister was crying and sobbing on seeing her again. (We literally raised her since she was a kitten).

When it comes to friends/family I rarely get intimate or let it get to that point because I hate the idea of losing my independence and the idea of a relationship sort of irks me probably for aforementioned reason. INTP is calm and collected in a debate until someone calls them "stupid" or "you are clueless, you don't know what you're talking about", etc, and it's going to be personal (and they may show who the stupid one is), this is where a calm and collected INTP can look downright temperamental, they're gonna deal with you seriously. Also, many INTPs are artistic. If an INFP uses art as a way to channel their feelings, an INTP uses art to channel their creativity or just plainly a hobby. I am not into art in the sense that I admire paintings or whatever, but I do love doodling/drawing, and I do love art, but only my own kind of art (which is in the realm of Si in this matter).
Another thing, INTP categorizes and compartmentalize things in their heads, they see the world using Ti and Fe perspective which make them ok with categorizations, meanwhile an INFP will refuse to be categorized, due to FiTe dynamics. Fi upholds "uniqueness" and is against (or opposed) to Fe that tend to group people (because Fe and Ti are always paired, whatever Ti thinks about, is manifested by Fe). INFP as Fi dominants will oppose Fe in categorizing people. So, an INTP will open mindedly welcome MBTI (that was initially based on Fe perspective, Jung was an INFJ), meanwhile an INFP (and all other Fi people) will (usually at first) be staunchly against it until they understand what MBTI is. If someone's reaction to grouping people based on types/categories seem to offend them, that person is highly likely an Fi user.

MBTI is about DOMINANT function, thus people can essentially lie somewhere between types. It also says little about the strength of those traits. Somebody could for example score very highly on both thinking and feeling or score low on both, MBTI purely focusses on which of either you mainly focus decisions on. This way and based on having varying scores on thinking vs feeling, I've come to the conclusions that I'm between an INTP and INFP, not being distinctly one of either.

I am all the time max 54% F or T. One time INTP, one time INFP.
Cognitive functions test - same. Ti and Fi similar scoring, but here I almost always have result: INTP.
I classify myself as an INTP, the more intuitive one.
I am emotional, neurotic, logical and artistic at the same time.
I think the difference between an INTP and an INFP, however, is that INFPs feel emotions all the time.
I rather feel nothing in a neutral state, but where there is emptiness, there are fluctuations ;)
What I mean is that I don't feel emotions 24/24, but I do feel very strong emotions when there is a reason. These are very strong emotions.
I try to control myself, but I'm just too emotional and my emotions influence my decisions from time to time.
But at the same time, in many situations where others panic, I stay aloof and think what to do. I can also often suppress emotional noise, but nevertheless sometimes it causes emotions to only grow displaced until they explode within consciousness.
I think I have a tendency to grip and shadow at the same time.
I fall into the shadow probably because of my neuroticism, in such a way that I equate my anger with a shadow.
I would even say that I am sensitive and hurt easily, but only if someone is a close person. Every single stranger or person I know, but not close one, cannot hurt me. Loved ones can do it very easily.
I try to be conciliatory, although it is not always successful xD
I think all of this contributes to my testing being so close to the middle in T / F.
Various people who know MBTI at least a little bit and have written with me often laugh when I tell them that I have considered myself INFP vs INTP. They say I can't be an INFP and it comes to know me straight away.
And I explain to them that I have always seen myself through the prism of artistry and emotions. They say they see an INTP in me, or possibly an ENTP. Well, I'm so introverted that I'm definitely I.
I have known MBTI myself for over 6 months.
During this time, I absorbed a lot of knowledge on this subject.
The first two months were definitely the most intense, when I was able to gain knowledge(articles, videos, later books) on this subject at any free time, during the weekend I was able to spend, for example, the whole day with only breaks for peeing. xD
All day long, I mean, I woke up and sat down to do this and learned until I didn't have to go to sleep. I don't know how many hours, but a dozen for sure.
I was learning and considering various theories during this time.
Personally, I like the 8-function model. The unconscious is very interesting.

@@PLAYERik I'm INFJ/INFP and over 60% F but I resonate with INTP as well b/c I have Sun sign, ascendant and Mercury in Virgo which means I'm analytical and I feel like I get analysis paralysis at times. I learned in my NLP program that I both feel and think a lot. I think most of us tend to get hurt by close loved ones. You really devoted a lot to learning about MBTI! I'm still surprised that I've been in self-help for years but the coaches/therapists haven't really talked about MBTI, although I've heard about Astrology/Numerology/Archetypes/Mind types/Enneagrams. Maybe MBTI is already known by the general public even though most people just got the summaries. What is the 8-function model?

    • @PLAYERik
      @PLAYERik Před 2 lety +16

@@mindsoulempowerment8842 All INFJs are analitical because of Ni dominant function, and Ti tertiary. Ti is dominant function of INTPs - thats make INTPs so logical.
INFPs have no Ti, they have dominant Fi, they are analitical too but not same way. Its complicated.
I am not mathematical, but still calculate a lot when making decisions. Pros and cons.
I would say that also the strong difference between INTPs and INFPs is that INFPs feel if something is good or bad. INTPs see most things as gray. This does not mean that they never feel that something is good or bad, but for INTPs that is not enough, they have to ask themselves "Why?" "Why do I feel something is good or bad, does it have any logical cause?"
It is similar with emotions, where INTPs try to logically explain their own emotions like: "My emotional reaction was probably caused by an external stimulus, while my psyche, secreting specific hormones, makes me feel that something is wrong."
INFPs and INFJs have not same functions in stack.
      4 functions of:
      INFPs: FiNeSiTe
      INTPs: TiNeSiFe
      INFJs: NiFeTiSe
As you can see INFPs and INFJs have no functions in common.
8-functions model is hard to understand for beginners. If you don't know jungian cognitive functions thats when you need to start.
You can check out the websites like psychologyjunkie and personalityjunkie.
I also recommend the book: "My true type" by Dr. Drenth.
In 59 pages you will learn a lot about cognitive functions.
The problem with 16personalities is that it does not take into account functions, but rather a dichotomy.
The function tests are not very good either way.
Then it is necessary to learn about the position of the function, i.e. what the same function does on 4 different positions in the stack.
For example, both INTPs and INFPs have a Ne function in the second position.
This second function is the "auxiliary parent"(Archetype), for both of them this function is Ne (extroverted intuition), which means they help others in a way that presents them with many alternative possibilities. They tell people about the possibilities they have.
      For example
SOMEONE: "A girl broke up with me"
INPs: "You can try to get it back, or you can find a new one, or you can just focus on yourself and not look for anyone."
Of course, the difference is that INFPs are more likely to provide emotional support, but a conscious and developed INTP can do it too, although in its not entirely counseling way.
For example, I will just hug someone. I've learned that it's better than words and then just wait for the person to cry out and I start showering with possibilities.
The 8-function model, on the other hand, is complicated and poorly understood, so there is a lot of room for interpretation, which means that, unfortunately, everyone understands it a bit differently.
This model says that everyone has all 8 functions, but 4 of them are displaced to our unconscious.
These features still influence our actions, but we are not aware of it. In the 8-function model it looks like this:
      INFPs: FiNeSiTe FeNiSeTi
      INTPs: TiNeSiFe TeNiSeFi
      INFJs: NiFeTiSe NeFiTeSi
So functions 1-4 are conscious (4 is the least conscious, so often called subconscious), and 5-8 are unconscious, called also shadow functions, and this is your "shadow type".
(Thats mean shadow of INTPs are ENTJs, of INFJs are ENFPs, of INFPs are ENFJs)
For example, the function in position 6 is called the critical parent. It is a shadow/mirror image of the auxiliary parent (second function). So if my second function is Ne, then my sixth function is Ni.
We use this function negatively to criticize ourselves and others, and we are not aware of it.
For example, for INTPs it looks like we criticize others for not deducing something like "Are you stupid? How could you not have foreseen this ?!" We criticize ourselves in the same way.
This may look like criticizing "not thinking" of course, but in fact, calling someone stupid can be due to various reasons, and it is very common for INTPs to call someone stupid for not dedicating something, not predicting something (or not having a goal or dreams too)
INFJs, even if they would criticize someone in this way, they would be more aware of it (because we can criticize people for different things with different functions), then the sixth function has the form of a criticism that we give, and we are not even aware of it.
Well, unless we get to know the 8-function model and realize it.
But we still probably all criticize people in this way, except that now we have a better chance to refrain from it, or at least apologize right away when we say it.
Shadow functions can also have good use, but it's hard to learn this.
P.S. Fi-users (ie INFPs) will often say that this is severely pigeonholing people. Their Fi is strongly against this, because individualization is important to them, while Ti-users (like INTPs) want to classify and close everything as precisely as possible. (Still with an open mind).
For example, it was not enough for me to learn about MBTI and functional models. I became interested in the differences within one type and I want to divide it into sub-types.
      This is what Ti does.
best regards and have a nice day :)

If someone was being blunt to me and I took it offensive, then I would probably overthink about it for a long time, until it really bugs me and talk it out, like 'hey, I didn't appreciate when you said ___' but I also want to see their side, maybe I'm wrong too, because I know I'm not 100% right. But if they sincerely didn't mean it or meant it other ways, then I would listen and actually want to hear it, because I'd hate that myself. I hate it most when I'm misunderstood and taken from a wrong side when my intentions were good. I don't want to be seen as having bad intention, because that was not at all what I intended. So I would listen.

Being an INTP is no excuse to not increase your social skills. It might take longer than for others but it goes a long way to not insist on not changing but to swallow one's own pride and to practice social interaction in order to make occasional socializing more fluid. Cheers, a formerly socially awkward INTP that chose to improve oneself and now is often considered highly sociable. It's just practice that makes life so much better.
