Why Brad Stevens Is A Coaching Genius

  • The Celtics swept the Sixers in round 1, and Brad Stevens certainly played a strong role in that due to his coaching and adjustments. I breakdown the adjustments he made on offense and defense to put Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum in the best spots to succeed, and how he attacked Joel Embiid. In the next round of the NBA playoffs, the Celtics will face the Raptors and Nick Nurse.

One nitpick with this I have is that the Sixers drop coverage did free Kemba for pulls up in the midrange. But those are shots you absolutely want Boston taking if you’re the defense. In the regular season, a Kemba pull up (non 3) is good for .79 points per. That’s an awesome outcome if you’re the defense! Even letting him dribble into a 3 there is a passable decision: 1.09 points per. Not awesome, but likely better than letting him footrace Embiid to the hoop.

Plugga nurse is a better coach overall, since both the raps and the C’s have developing players

Why Do I Exist Stevens is better at X’s and O’s then nurse but nurse is better at making players like Terence Davis and Chris Boucher better

I’ve slowed this down and I don’t see anything. Someone please tell me where the foul is. 5:25

In today’s NBA everything is a foul. When brown shot he kick his leg up to draw contact. That’s when the foul is called. Curry uses to move almost every time he shoots.

You forgot to mention the part that Brett Brown can never adjust to other coaches changes. That’s why the Sixers normally throw games late in the 4th & suck 2nd quarter too.

The media spends no time praising Boston’s excellent play, all they do is blame philly. They have issues but it isn’t just them playing bad. We are basically the Eastern Conference Clippers without the bench depth and we get no credit.

Everyone remembers the Butler v Duke title game where Gordon Hayward nearly won it with the half court shot. That was impressive coaching by Stevens, but making the national championship again the year after proved to me he’d have staying power in the NBA. With no Hayward, Stevens got the most out of their talent and had the team be greater than the sum of its parts.
