The Defensive Tactic That Wreaks Havoc on NBA Offenses
I breakdown how NBA teams often change the defensive matchup of their center to look to slow down high powered NBA offenses. This is a simple tactic that can disrupt offenses, and limit the pick and roll and pick and pop. I breakdown a game between the Suns and Cavs, and how teams are using it to defend Luka Doncic and the Mavs.

    As I speak, the Olympics are just around the corner, Bilal Coulibaly had a pretty good season, he's very good defensively, between the summer league and the start of the season, he worked on his shooting, finishing at 35% on 3-pointers for the whole season, but the most surprising thing is that during the season he grew from 6'6 to 6'8. And during the offseason, the Wizards GM announced in an interview that they had measured him at 6'9. In addition to growing, Bilal is supposed to be working on his physique right now, putting on a few kilos of muscle, working on his handle and self-creation. If he develops properly offensively, he'll be an All-Star one day. As his defense is already elite, he can concentrate on his offensive game and his physique.

    Euphoria? Them superteams getting neutralized, I can only watch in silence. The famous Heatles we once knew is lookin paranoid and now spiraling. They moving just like degenerates, every antic is feeling distasteful. I calculate they're not as calculated, I can even predict the angle. Double teaming on Parker cause they thought he would collapse. A pathetic superstar manipulator, I can smell the slander on you now. You're not a superteam, you're a super weak team with the hopes of being accepted. Gregg Popovich figured you out, Pat Riley never had been your protection. Spurs play ball that electrify 'em, Heat play ball that pacify 'em I can double down on that line but spare you this time, that's random acts of Mavericks Know that you're a star manipulator and habitual loser, too But don't take no Ls for Bron and we wont take them dubs from you

    The Nuggets just used this strategy against the Lakers to win Game 2. They ran a Lebron/AD pick n roll with Jokic in drop coverage mostly in the 1st half. 2nd half the Nuggets put Jokic on Rui and had Gordon on AD in the pick n roll. The Lakers looked super confused and could not get anything going on offense. Is it common for a coach to be clueless against this strategy?

    • @coachdaniel8163

      It can certainly cause confusion yes, that's one of the pros of this strategy. I will say, in that game in particular the Lakers clear fatigue in Denver (high altitude) seemed to doom their offense more than anything.

    NBA sucks because they don’t know how to pass correctly to use passing to set up positions to get easy shots. But they are athletic and can shoot, but using that pick and roll all the time is pretty one dimensional, most time it doesn’t work to get an easy shot.

    I find find it notable that the driver doesnt challenge the helpside at all. SJ has three counters to it. The pivot, the dunker and the cut and fill, which exchanges the helpside. This with double gaps because of the no player on the point attacks both gap help and helpside, opening alot of space.

    The first action of this video are secondary transition offenses. The PNR is more efficient that way, because most of the time the „bigs“ are sitting in the zone. Other examples were PNR out of set, different story.

    Ive noticed this a lot woth the celtics over the years. When he was a bit younger they were fine with Horford switching onto guards (also helped when we had Smart who could handle his own against bigs in the post) But they would use Rob Williams as the free safety and it helped disrupt the opponents offense

    My HS team uses a similar defense with all players. (6:40) The problem with the Bucks is the weak side guards don't need to help & must stay in the passing lane (like Middleton 2:22) Or have the PG peel off to the top in passing lane when his man drives.

    Love the content and a great breakdown of a modern spead PnR. However I cant accept the claim that Allen is not able to post up Booker/Grayson. Allen should be easily able to overpower any SG in the paint and if not go through him, then just hook over him in the paint. His postgame should still handle any 6'6 guard 40lbs lighter. That's suppose to be an advantage that commands help and leaves a shooter open, is it not?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163 Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah, the Cavs could have done a better job of getting it to Allen inside. But it's harder than it looks, as teams will front the post and make the entry pass difficult. Also, if Allen does get say Beal on a switch, the Suns will look to try to switch-off ball to get a bigger defender on Allen to take away the post up. If that doesn't make sense check out the pinned comment, I explain it there a bit.

    The thing is that post up looks like a lost art for NBA bigs. You can't play with these match ups in Europe (of course there are less athletic players anyway). But this kind of tactics deny your big from PnR connections, no post up game and it forces a non shooter perimeter player to be exposed. Many times bigs are not even chasing the offensive rebound
