- The Washington Wizards surprised the NBA by taking Bilal Coulibaly #7 in the 2023 NBA draft. A teammate of Victor Wembanyama's in France, Coulibaly specializes in defense. In today's video I breakdown his summer league performance. He will look to fit in next season next to Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole with the Wizards.

To add a bit, Coulibaly was pretty unknown last year, even in France, and only started to have minutes with his team less than 6 months ago. As pointed out in the video, there is a lot of room for improvement with this kid.
Even in France he was unexpected, he started the season on the Mets youth team, earning a spot in the pro rotation during the season, finishing starter during the playoffs
Coulibaly is so good that he made Coach Daniel back. I'm a Wizards fan and I really love the content. Like the Wizards' GM Will Dawkins said, Coulibaly is a mold of clay. He's very young, he will turn 19 this week. He's teachable and determine to improve. He will have a lot of time and opportunity in Washington. This is the perfect team for him.

The most notable trait for me, is Desire/Passion! You can see it! He wants to be great and he will be! His effort is A+! He is going to be special!
Literally facts he plays with confidence and passion !!
This aspect of a prospect is sadly so underlooked too often
jokic has none of that and he's the best player in the NBA
YOU'RE BACK!! I love the videos man im glad you still have the passion after all this time
Bilal is gonna be the first bilal. I think hes gonna be really unique
Frank Ntilikina
@@icyplatinumstop. Bil has a way higher ceiling, mad wingspan and bounce. Let’s not even compare Defense either cuz Bil getting blocks
@@luhRvck what makes him different from Frank? Frank has a huge wingspan, known for his defense.
@@icyplatinuma 6’8 ntilikina
@@kjadams6843 except he's listed at 6'6"
Every team is looking for a more skilled Siakam, that's the new player type GM's really like
and when the world needed him most,
he returned
I LOVED UR VIDEOS OVER THREE YEARS AGO! IVE LEARNED A LOT SINCE THEN SO I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU POST REGULARLY AGAIN! welcome back 🥰♥️
he posted a few months ago as well
I wanted the Spurs to take him with their other pick.. and then he took off in the draft rankings like nobody else lol
Rememer one thing: last year, he wasnt supposed to play in the team with wemby in mets 92! He just improved so fast and hes a sponge, everything you say will be taken into account
Miss this kind of analysis.. miss your videos..somewhat welcome back.. more vid to come
7:03 Wasn't afraid of the contact, either. What a beast
Thanks for the video Coach. Glad to hear you
Great part about all this is he’s 18. I think he just needs reps
Some stuff you gotta understand are also due to how teams are put together in the summer league. I mean they just throw 15 random dudes in a team have 2,3 practices and are like go play. When he gets a couple of seasons in with the same coach and players half of these mistakes in the video will disappear. The main question is his shooting.
Thank you for more analysis
I can see him being a top 3 player from this draft when his offensive game develops. He has good offensive and defensive IQ. You can already see that he plays with high intensity on defense. His offensive game does need work like his shooting and ball handling, and when those improve, I can see him being a problem. As he gets stronger and his skills improve I can see this guy being a 2-way star in the future. I see him as a shorter and less athletic version of Giannis.
Great assessment coach was very similar to mine before the draft scouting him in France… easy way to put it he’s a athletic wing with all the physical gifts to potentially be a star in this league… but it will take him a couple of years… now wit Washington’s new FO let’s see if they could develop talent there cuz their track record of doing that hasn’t been to great… and they got obstacles wit heavy shot volume coming from Poole and they still have to develop Johnny Davis which he had a decent summer league very interested to see how the wizards plan this out… great job as usual … more scouting videos like this would be great… peace
He’s definitely one of the few rookies that could still be very much growing which is another upside I believe the wizards were thinking about when drafting him
I am So Glad you are Back. We missed you so much
8:25 Myles Turner over there lookin like a young Venus Williams lol.
Coach it’s good to have you back!!!
Missed the content brotha, thanks for this as a Wizards fan.
awesome breakdown!!!!
Love my yearly coach daniel upload
Glad you're back
Great video, Daniel!
I legitimately lol'd when the "super fancy graphic" came up at the end of the video 😂
That graphic! 🤯🤯 I feel like I'm watching Pixar!
I think he will grow a lot with experience. Form looks good and is something that a good shooting coach can fix in 1-2 years. Needs to work on his ball handling and like I said get more reps in to increase his vision and feel for the game. He has all the intangibles in the game, give this young man some time in the g league and he should be able to provide for washington around the all star game.
THIS is why I stay subscribed
Never thought he’d return
just look Coulibaly' s highlights in France. He dunks over all big guys....and his defense is so hard.....France's got talents
Legend is back man
welcome back!
Great analysis! Do agree with almost every point but the 3's. He can be a way better , he just needs adjustment.
As a french, I'm proud to see so many of our young players go to the NBA with a chance to play a non negligeable role in this league. We have also many of them staying in Europe and play Euroleague which is a very tough competition with a different style. With this mix, we may have a great national team in the coming years, which is important for countries like us. 🇨🇵👍💙🤍❤️
From what I saw, he looks like in a couple years his shooting aggression will go up, as will hopefully his ability. His defense already looks great 1 on 1 with his ability to multitask likely going up as well with more experience. Overall I could see him becoming a great starting piece if he keeps at it. Although when he passed the ball at the top of the key it just looked like he gave up on his potential drive lol.
YOOOO ITS THE GOAT
WELCOME BACK!!!
Superstar potential. My eye test tells me he has that Giannis ceiling. Still 18 and probably gonna have a growth spurt and be 6'11 in his 20s
Nah he aint growing that much maybe 6'9 Giannis was 6'9 at 18
@@EsanaNekwek-el4wq I’ve heard he was bilal was measured at 6’9 slightly b4 or after the draft, I’m not sure if it’s true or not
Mooooooooving on
I am a bit concerned by getting beaten on backdoor cuts, but for anything screen related those are usually less used in France so it's just lack of experience
The return of the King 2#
Coach Daniel, are you back to making videos full-time or are you still with the Mavs?
Welcome back Coach Daniel.
Omg Daniel is back!!!
he's gonna be good
What happened to your job on Dallas bro? Big fan of yours by the way.
I’m glad you’re back but what happened with your job with the Mavericks? I thought you couldn’t do these type of vids anymore?
This guy reminds me of Khawi and PG13. I’m NOT saying he is a superstar like these guys but I remember when Kawhi and PG got drafted the were defensive freaks first and then developed their offense over time. Coulibaly is going to be a defensive problem very quickly.
Good analyis. TBH all rookies are the biggest mystery because they haven't played any real NBA games yet lol... But I'm intrigued by this kid and I think he could be a shorter Pascal Siakam type player.
Cool. What team are you with now?
thx❤
Hes back
He got great potentiel
nice
B. Cool going to be T-Mac level good
vid on jordan walsh??
He's made for the NBA
Good
give him a couple years he will be a big time player
You have to know that 3pts line is closer in Europe games. He isnt a range shooter so just let him take confident on the NBA range and become a nice catch and shooter
Sounds like another frank ntilikina
Not good news actually.
Nothing film can’t fix
bien vu
Kids gonna be great.
That's a long hiatus
Great player, But like any other rookie he needs to learn alot, but tbh who will he learn from in washington. Ofc in games but he will learn.
in think id be wise not to make any assomptions on his game on the sole basis of a few SL games, if you wanna have a thorough analysis look at his games in LNB or wait for the season to start. I have plenty of hopes in him
Reminds me of Dante Exum
Nous avons un futur prometteur en équipe nationale ! Allez les Bleus 🇫🇷🎉
Sounds like Frank Ntilikina
Signed,
A Bitter Knicks Fan
Will be tough at 21! Weight room NBA mastesrty play... will be tough!
He's going to be the new Batum.
Not a bust for sure !
he can dribbles like jamal crawford, just have to work on his jumpshot a little bit :)
YOOO DANIEL IS BACK TELL YOUR FRIENDS
Ah yes, the next Bruno Caboclo
I felt like he is the next Frank Nitilkina when he for drafted good defender not very good on offense
Frank can be very good on offense but he is a pass first like Stockton he could get his but so far his NBA journey has been a shitshow cause of the teams he has been in tbf ......
Was he not playing with wemby
COACH DANIEL BACK?!?
I think we can compare him rn to like a worse Nickeil Alexander-Walker
He's alright so far. He still needs a little more time imo.
EVERYONE GET IN HERE!!
His left hand suspect as hell. Can’t finish with his left neither, even when he drove left he went up with his right lol
Frank Ntilikina
The Wizard shot their load too early. No way should have been picked up that early in a loaded draft. If that is the case, they should have traded down and still would have wound up with him and another pick in the 1st.
He was drafted too high
Y'all be saying anybody is the next one now
His sister is a beast
Why are you back here?
derozan
Shades of scottie pippen and lotsa confident this kid is going to be good, and he's only 18
You can´t take anything from Summer League. It´s like a pickup game with audience, but there´s no need to win, just to showcase to try to get a contract from some of your teammates. That being said, he looks very raw in every area. It will highly depend on his passion for game and his work ethic. I hope he ends up better than Wizard's latest picks like Avdija or Hachimura. Even tho I think Avdija still has some chance to breakout.
All I see is Frank Ntilikina
Tbh
Coulibaly is taller and more athletic. He'll need to develop his jump shot better than Frank did for sure though.
They play a different position and have a vastly different playstyles. This is another racist comment by an ignorant american cos they are from the same country.
@@coachdaniel8163 he is super raw, he should never have gone that high but stayed at his 20ish range. he benefited from some manufactured hype that proved to be untrue from what was saw in summer league.
He can't shoot. And he doesn't create his own shot. Ausur Thompson similar physical profile who I'm much higher on. He can't really shoot either yet but I see an aggressive attacker. Bilal was passive and wasn't looking for his own offense when I watched him live
Worst thing that could of happened was him being drafted by the Wiz. Ask Johnny Davis... Wiz don't develop their talent
Wizards have a whole entire new front office, and staff this year. They cleaned house in the off season. New development staff, so Bilal will be good!
So a mini giannis
Rotational bench player if he can develop a shot or grow 4 inches in height. But his shot is so far from acceptable.
Its summer league, stop over analyzing lol. If you want to analyze him then watch his games with Metz 92, he was on the same team as Wemby, but you can’t tell us anything with 4 games of summer league, with new teammates so no chemistry and a diff role+ the fact that NBA court is bigger and the rules are different.
Bilal is 6’8 with a 7’3 wingspan, he’ll be a Vanderbilt or Herb Jones type of player right in his rookie season, elite defender but i think he is a better shooter than Vanderbilt i think he has the potential to become as good as Mikal Bridges or Mcdaniels (From Wolves).
So the Wizards basically drafted Killian Hayes
Wtf
