over 10 min. finally my man is learning to hustle
THE DAGGER! BANG! BANG!
Hate to be that guy but youtube changed it to 8 minutes a couple months back haha but i enjoyed your comment
I didn't know it changed to 8 minutes, but I laughed since it's been a running joke on his videos 😅
Stop hating, he BEEN hustling
and then he didn’t put ads in
This was such high level coaching that I barely even understood the breakdown.
lol no doubt!
This video really shows how difficult coaching is, to be able to notice all of these things in real-time and make the right adjustment time and time again is wild. Has me questioning if been watching basketball the wrong way all this time
We are watching the wrong way fr
80% of coaches in the league rn don't notice these things and make ZERO adjustments during the game. Nick Nurse and Brad Stevens are genius exceptions, not the rule. Ex. Doc Rivers made 0 adjustments in the last 3 Clippers games.
Facts, a lotta people don't realize how sophisticated a sport basketball is.
@@Emon31415 actually 80% of the coaches notice these things, they don't have the absolute defensive titans for players like nurse and stevens had at their disposal, so they can't affect the game as much. nurse and stevens (and spo) are certainly THE best coaches in the game atm, but the rest of the coaches aren't as far behind as you might think, they do not have the excellent defensive iq and versatility that the raptors and the celtics units had though.
lol
This is the kind of coaching commentary/breakdown missing everywhere on TV.
exactly espn "analysts" talk out their ass half the time
Most casual fans are more interested in the storylines rather than the X’s and O’s
Do you guys know some other channels which offers breakdowns like this ??

Can you do a "how the Clippers gave up a 3-1 lead after giving up major assets to win the championship" a in depth would help cuz im pulling out my damn hair
Clippers had no facilitators and their bench couldn't play defense. Basically, the bench gave up the leads the starters created, and no one could consistently get the role players involved, so the clippers relied heavily on iso ball which is a high variance strategy, which explains the huge peaks and valleys from Kawhi and PG.
@@pearlywhites3025 I would agree. I think a change of coach, trading or signing a playmaker, and improving rotations will lead to a ring next season.
My thoughts:
1. No facilitators besides Kawhi who isn't really who you want to be your lead play initiator despite improving.
2. Harrell and Lou getting absolutely shredded on defense and playing too much
3. Too much freelance offense, not many plays being ran, could have made things easier.
4. PG just shrinking, not hitting shots or being aggressive.
@@pearlywhites3025 so basically...... They miss the Point GOD?? Same as rockets hien 🤷🏻♂️😂
no adjustments, no offense concepts... Doc is a great emotional leader but not a Championship Coach. I would expect more with 20+ years exp. nba coaching...
This might be the only channel that has never turned out a single bad video
Most based comment. I think I watched every video at least 3 times. There is way too much quality in to these videos
Cole Dorillo ikr, it’s genuinely not even close to any other channel rn

It's still crazy how OG showed literally no expression after hitting that game winning 3 pointer

@@emperorza5777 they're aren't really the extroverted type. pretty stoic and deadpan.
@@rickmayabolis lmao where do see his family at lol I’m interested in seeing them now
So many of you have asked for a coaching vid...there was a ton of little stuff in this series and I tried to focus on the biggest tactical moves, hopefully doing them justice. Remember, there's a director's cut version of this for Patreon subscribers. Please leave vid requests below -- it's been a crazy playoffs and there's no telling what comes next...Thanks!
I'd love to hear about the Rockets vs Lakers series, how the Heat has won so much and how the Clippers chockes a 3-1 lead, and the greatness of that Nuggets team
I’d love to see an analysis on jokic/murray in the playoffs
I would love to see Stevens vs. Spo game 1. and what options both of them have to counter with.
Need some Spo praise.
Would love to see some jocic/Murray goods
What's crazy isn't just the coaching, but the ability of the players to keep up with the coaching and follow instructions and game plan like that
These teams' collective IQ was incredible. But the Cs seemed to get a lobotomy following this series. Because I still don't know what happened against Miami.
@@somerandomguy84 i think kembas injury was to blame for the heat series. he couldnt keep up with his man on pick and roll defense so theis had to help almost every play which gave Bam easy baskets. People hate on theis but he was doing his job helping, bostons weak side help wasnt good enough to contain bam. plus not having hayward for the first few games to attack the zone didnt help ,
I feel like the playoffs this year has separated the great coaches from the overrated ones. Stevens, Nurse, Spoelstra, Vogel, and Malone have been able to adjust in every series. Then you have Budenholzer and Doc not doing much.
Crazy to think about how people complained about Frank Vogel when he was in Indiana. Either he got a power-up as a coach, or we judged him badly when he was in Indy
@Andre Salazar bud is something else, but i dont think there was much mda could do with the roster he had.
@@Bankai2169 it's hard to evaluate coaches in any circumstance. he now has two of the best players in the league in his roster, which means that he can do more as a coach as well.
@Andre Salazar i think it has more to do with the fact that OKC was a completely different team in comparison to the lakers. theres not much they can do with that level of talent outmatch.
@@bubberlad d'antoni was still outcoached and he played right into the lakers hands by letting the lakers control the tempo and slowing the time of possessions
It’s crazy how different the game is for thinking basketball compared to me😭. I only see the highlights
G. C. Wen facts that’s why i’m glad he made this because it makes me smarter
@@silk3142 For sure! The way I watch defense is so different now. In the past, I thought man defense was the only defense.
Check out half court hoops channel, they did a 1hr breakdown of this series
Jeremy Paglinawan thanks man i’m watching it
Huge brain
Wow. Thank you for explaining that last play with VanVleet. A lot of us laymen thought there was no playcall, when really the celtics shut things down with their intelligence and on ball defense.
TheSnowshow33 very good point. When a defense blows up the primary action the offense looks so reactionary
Nick Nurse is like a mad scientist when it comes to coaching, he has some serious out of the box thinking.
GOAT Tuber a box and 1 is hardly out of the box...
@@mintofta its not exactly out of the box but it is definitely unconventional.
Don’t under estimate brad he got the better of him
@@eastboundorc-5473 he had the more talented roster lol
Defensively sure, but he’s a sneaky bad offensive coach. Even when he had Kawhi the raptors had no offense in the half court outside of Kawhi hero ball.
Can you please do a breakdown on the clips vs Nuggets? We gotta get that insight on the choke
lmao
nice one ahaha
Just watch BBALLBREAKDOWN
Game 7 Playoff P is no joke (if he's on _your_ team lol) 🐸☕
Kawhi punching the air after giving up everything Toronto had to offer for Pandemic P
if he doesnt win a ring with the clippers, hes gonna regret that smh
@@thegoat3153 Just like every other Star/Superstar player they've ever signed. 🤷♂️
They need to replace Doc. He seriously did jack when he had all the time in the world to adjust the rest of the team.
brad stevens is weirdly underrated where everyone knows he's a good coach, but don't see him as one of the best in the league which hopefully this series showed his true talent. Get this man a coach of the year award.
stevens should have atleast 2 cot, they made the playoffs with a rebuilding roster in 2016 isaiah 1st year, then the following year they were the no.1 seed in the east. 2018 kyries 1st year were 2nd in the east with a completely new line up gets to the ecf without kyrie and gordon, media don't like stevens because he's boring, nba is all about marketing and flash.
@@theclassicmanila-style8435 When Dwane Casey won in 2017-2018 Stevens got robbed. They gave it to casey for changing his offense and being the 1 seed but it was Nurse who made those offensive changes and boston only had 2 less wins then the raptors in a year where they lost hayward on day 1 and kyrie down the stretch while also having horford, smart, theis, baynes and brown miss significant time. I dont see how Stevens can win COTY now because he wont have a better season then that one.
Finally, my man did a video that's over 10 mins.
I’d love to hear you talk about doc rivers coaching because it was really poor to me
He's spoken in his podcast about how he doesn't think Doc is a great strategist
Doc is not a good coach at all. Super overrated
it didn't seem like he was doing any coaching he kept calling timeouts but they continued doing that stupid double team and leaving jokic by himself which makes no sense his rotations were bad in the playoffs there should be no point in time when 5 bench guys are playing together they could've won the series if he just continued playng his starters but he kept taking them out and giving up double digit leads
@@kps5121 what are you talking about? Sure he had his moments but he was a key part of why Lob City was so great
kawhi in the 4th quarter should be the topic not blaming the coach
imagine making a video about the battle, not of the players, of the COACHES entertaining. Well done sir
This series made wonder what other instances has there been of coach’s having these type of chess matches
Probably Phil vs Pop back in the day
Brown vs Nurse last season was amazing too.
Imagine Frank Vogel vs. Brad Stevens or Spolestra or vs. Mike Malone?
One thing I know is that the NBA now has better coaches than before.
Going back and watching old videos. Love your content dude
I absolutely love these kinds of games/series analysis. More of these and great work as usual!
As someone who has never played team basketball (not even highschool or anything) and just learns from yt and watching games, thinking about processing this amount of info during a game, fixing matchups, filling spots on the floor, calling up plays, etc sounds really overwhelming. Makes me aprecciate even more the work and the strategy the players and staff put out on the court and training
Beautiful coaching, beautiful breakdown, and the music is perfect.
wow so many of these things flew over my head when I was watching the series. Good video man
very nice! I remember you did one during the Rockets vs warriors series of last year or two years ago that i enjoyed a lot. This one was even more informative (at least for me). I really enjoy your content.
Awesome analysis as always.
I'm pretty new to basketball but you explain things so clearly so it's all easily understandable.
Absolutely fantastic video mate
To further stretch the Chess analogy: this is definitely more akin to Karpov vs. Kasparov: two fundamentally opposite players, both in terms of personality and playstyle, countering and drawing over and over again until a winner is forced out.
Absolutely amazing content as always.
One of your best videos this far, and that says a lot.
this was an amzing video, so much fun to watch.
one of the bright spots of that quarantine summer noKap
I don't even watch basketball, but I'm just so impressed by how much there is to know and how well you break it down, that I just keep watching your vids
Your videos get better and better each time!
Brilliant video! Initially thought that last play was just a poorly executed PnR with Ibaka and Van Vleet, your attention to detail is crazy on plays like this is, and along with the likes of BBALLbreakdown has really advanced the way i think about basketball! The book is also a brilliant read.
I’ve always understood that there’s serious scheming and x and o’s type stuff to every game but I’ve always struggled seeing much of it as it happens live. this helps a lot frfr 🔥
Man a few months ago I thought basketball was just about passing the ball to the one guy that can shoot the best, but after watching videos like this I know that there are sooo many tactical nuances in this game, it's incredible to the beginners eye
I mean we can all see these plays from the tv camera, I wonder how hard is it observe from the sideline as the coaches?
I never thought about it like that. Makes what they do even more impressive
you have to consider that these coaches have seen almost every single play more than a 1000 times in their lives
You should do a coach ranking. I'd love for someone to actually rank coaches
Top 5 in no order: Nurse, Stevens, Carlisle, Pop and Spo.
@@Sotanath86q Top 5 in order: Pop, Spo, Stevens, Nurse, Carlisle
@@inordirection_ Pretty fair but I'd put Kerr in my top 5. Obviously the past couple chips he didn't do that much but the Warriors got so much better when he got there and some of the things he did in that first year revolutionized the game, and even if he didn't come up with some ideas, imo choosing what ideas from your assistants to put into effect is a skill. Beyond that I think I'd put D'antoni, Budenholzer, and Stotts in some order. But I'm more interested to see which coaches past this teir get put into the "above average" camp. Because to me beyond those stand out guys so many coaches have their positives and negatives and idk how many of them are actually good with a mediocre team, or actually bad/below average/bad fit and holding a team back.
D’Antonie and Bud aren’t that good to me, they make no adjustments & have very flawed schemes
@@DamageIncorperated86 eh kerr was kinda carried by his talent and that's been evident in the last 2 seasons
This is just a part 1 right? You're gonna have to do a second video for the Celtics/Heat series because I see that series being incredibly close and chess-like as well.
That was a master piece of an analysis.
Amazing video, love the content
Liked this video, nice and in detail
great video! Thank you
n eed that breakdown on PG & Kawhi's inconsistent Box Creation! great work
I love watching this type of vids it makes me more smarter on the court!

Great video.
There is a one hour breakdown of this series, you guys can find it on CZcams.
What's it called?
@@Floyd_Steel similar name but by Half Court hoops, he has hella raptors Defense stuff on his channel
Wow, great video 👍
That Kemba dime is one of the greatest passes in NBA history. The balls/court awareness to be able to find that with the game on the line is crazy, especially cuz smart was WIDE open
That was the second Lowrys was the best 😂 can you imagine it took a Hail Mary for Lowry to defeat the pass kemba made
Wow,,,what a series,,what a way to unravel coach mind,,
This dude refuses to miss. Best basketball content on CZcams
8:55 Raptors SLOB: Horizontal stack with two guards getting open in succession, then PG sets up Hammer play: PG passes to high post and gets handback on right side, PG then drives baseline while hammer screen is set on opposite side....same play run at 9:13 by Raptors out of live transition situation: hammer action can flow into ball screen by hammer screener, with other big going to weak side dunker's spot and two shooters spacing out to 3pt line on weakside (*** possible relay pass from big to big for roll)
A 10 min video from Thinking Basketball?
I never thought this day would come.
I always learn a lot from watching your videos. Damn.
Amazing! As a raptors fan this made me feel a lot better. Nurse is a great coach! Stevens is as well. Objectively, it was an amazing series.
A Celtic fan I was on the edge of my seat for this series it was a war !!! Great series underrated series in recent years we might be looking at another potential raptor Celtic series this year
If only Kawhi never left Toronto.... That’s a free chip for the raptors
More like... that's a free chip for Kawhi
Terry Black they both lost early without each other...so I’d say it’s 50/50. A great player needs a great team to win and the opposite is also true.
@@LokeSenpai I guess my point was that Kawhi is given all the credit for the chip last year, but Kyle also led his team to a Game 7 in the semi's this year... no one (except people that actually watch the Raptors play) saw that coming. So I guess my point is that Kyle and the Raptors need more respect than they ever get
Kawhi could definitely give them a much needed isolation buckets. Siakam was proven to be not ready yet.
@@yunan9610 Of course! It'd be Lakers/Raptors Finals if he'd stayed. We'd actually get the Kawhi/LeBron matchup we all need...
Great video. I just thought VanVleet took a bad shot at the end of game 7. Didn't even notice the hammer action that the Celtics blew up.
I still think this channel is madly underrated
I called it on my series preview on this that one of the most exciting aspects about this series was the chess matchup between the two great coaches
Its madness that people actually hit the dislike button on these videos at all... best NBA analyst out there by far man.
Damn, I'd love a series on this stuff like a phil jacksons Lakers against Greg Popovich Spurs in '08 and '09. Pat Riley's Lakers '89 vs Chuck Daly's Pistons.
could listen to this for hours
this was a really cool video
I still say to this day what lost Toronto the series essentially was gasol in those pick in rolls I always watch this series again again again and again
This truly was a great series
It’s crazy that even with a fantastic game like the Heat vs Celtics. The only thing we can talk about the blown lead, that’s how crazy of a series the Clippers game was.
Liked and subscribed just because of that first chess line 😂😂
This video gives insight into the versatile wing rotation the raptors are running this year
one of my favorite series! best pre-switch series =)
MVP level Charles impression at @2:54
Do also Clips vs Nuggets and new rocket's coach options.
Rockets should sign Doc Rivers. Clipper get D'Antoni
yoooo i was hoping youd make a video on this
I’d like to see a video ranking coaches purely on their ability to adjust like this
