Some problems are left unsolved with the BMW M5 Competition i bought for cheap that i need to rebuild. I seem to take 2 steps forward then 1 step back when restoring the car. I have an issue with the brake which seems to relate to the transmission. If any of you guys could help that would be awesome!

if that transmission is the ZF8HP 8 Speed, there should be a small 5mil bolt that you can screw in to take it out of park. if someone screwed it in thinking it was just an undone bolt, that may be stopping it from going into gear.
I think it uses a dct
I know Wikipedia isn’t always the most reliable source but the “8-speed ZF GA8HP75Z Steptronic automatic” is used for the F90 M5 based off its answer
Matt, I absolutely love your videos especially on the main channel. It’s as good as top gear with all the cliff hangers etc. but the second channel is like a Lidl version of the first. It’s just not as good. I’m not hating just giving you my honest opinion. Congratulations on 1 million subscribers you clearly know what you doing.

I think using a vacuum for the brakes is your best bet, I had to change a rear calliper on my A3 and it had a stupid pipe on the calliper creating a high point where the air just wouldn't bleed. I ended up having to use the rewind tool to lock the piston off on the calliper and holding it up in the air to get it to bleed. might be something similar with the M5 a high point somewhere. Good luck pal.

Yep you’ve got the right sealant for the Lambo. The locktite I use too and with excess crankcase pressure the sealant is holding up way over the top!

Hey man, I had a similar fault on my car after a wiring issue. The brake pedal has 2 switches, check they are both working first, secondly the ABS module works off the tail lights.. I had a blown brake light fuse, which prevented the ecu or abs or some sh!t from allowing the transmission out of Park. Might be worth a look at 🤷🏻♂️ good luck 👍🏻 from Kane in Australia 🇦🇺

On the subject of bleeding the m5 brakes.
Attach a pressure bleeder to the master cylinder.
Pump up to around 25 psi
Then activate the abs module through ista and bleed each circuit starting from rear left I think.
The pressure will for e fluid through the system and activating the dsc module will allow fluid to flow through the module passing the air out.

hi Mat, I had the same problem with my BMW, could get mine into gear, till I found out everything need to be shut to engage it, safety system prevents accidents but frustrating when you don't know about it , you may have know this but just reminded me of my pain

Matt if there like the older BMWs you need to get a pressure bleeder and also bmw software to bleed the abs unit. Some diagnostic equipment do have that setting too.
Cant go wrong with Rtech great guys. Worked on my 2019 Golf R a couple of weeks ago.
Just a note to the effectiveness of the 518 flange sealer. This is a very effective product and is quite often used in industrial applications. I also used 510 flange sealer when working with components interacting with modern gasoline. If properly applied you should have no issues.

Matt. The silicon RTV is not for imperfections. It’s actually for where you have two surface joined together and another surface meeting those 2 surfaces at a tangent. Example where the timing cover meets the cylinder block and if a camshaft cover or a cylinder head has to sit on that surface.

On my x5 with the zf8 speed . If you need to knock it out off park instead off going under and mess around you take the cup holder cover out theres a special key you turn to take it out off p.

On the Mercedes would be cool to see you upgrades the media system you can get them for like £300 and very easy to install also upgrade the steering wheel which is a bit more expensive around about £1k but looks so good and has some great features!
