How are y'all possibly interpreting my comment that the SpongeBob Movie and Polar Express came out in 2004 as a diss? Did I say a single negative thing about either of them? Please explain
I think it's the was you worded it. When you said about how it was the worst movie dreamworks was put out. What you kind of meant was "This movie, on the year the spongebob movie and the polar express came out was determined by the institute..." etc. The "this movie" between "came out" and "was" might of confused people, since it seemed that you ended the sentence, where it's just your dialect. Hope this helps.

To be fair, "protagonist" doesn't mean "Hero", it just means main character, so Oscar can still be the protagonist and the villain at the same time

It's not a problem if a protagonist has flaws or makes mistakes but they usually have some qualities, motivations that explain why he/she acts like this, an entertaining story and a character development. All of these things in Oscar's case are pretty weak. On the YMMV page of the movie on TvTropes Oscar is also classified as Designated Hero and Unintentionally Unsympathetic, despite the character page tells us he's the Hero, albeit an Idiot one (and also a Jerk with a Heart of Gold)
I laugh at the number of idiots who call out Oscar not being a good person bad writing when they want a typical 1 dimensional good guy trope. Like I'm sorry but thats the polar opposite of good writing.
Yeah, like how Ainz Ooal Gown and Lelouch are the protagonists, besides the fact that Ainz is the definition of pure evil (he's larping a supervillain) and Lelouch is just, well he's done a ton of really dark things and has mind control powers, which in my opinion is one of the most immoral and evil things you can do to someone.
The reason they called the main character Oscar is because they could still say this movie had an Oscar.

0:35 Speaking of which, I hated that Ralph Breaks The Internet and Shark Tale had the same problem: the main characters were selfish and faced no consequences. Vanellope wanted to join Slaughter Race by going against her role as the leader and abandoning the racers in Sugar Rush, while Oscar wanted to be famous by lying to everyone that he killed a shark and disregarding the people he already had in his life.
Even after that, they were never held accountable for their actions.
And that's why I prefer Rango over Shark Tales

Back then? No, because it was relevant. Popular stars voice acting at the time, decent animation for the time (despite how ugly and grungy it looks) like of course people were going to like it. The problem was that it immediately dated itself by using pop culture to be hip with the kids. That's what cemented its downfall.

As someone who is studying animation, I think the animation for this film is good despite the budget (75 million usd). Animation for film is extremely hard, especially with a low budget (the budget is not just for the animation too). Shrek 2 had 125-150 million usd for budget, that's why the animation was so much better.
And even Shrek 2 looks pretty dated
They blew the whole budget on all of the big name actors.
I think the real problem is the art direction. The colors are all washed out and oversaturated, and the characters are ugly and uncanny.
The city is all murky and the set design looks real dirty. Even the bumpmaps are very blotchy and you can even see the pixels.
Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate now has a lower Rotten Tomatoes percentage than Shark Tale. MUCH lower. See for yourself.

Y'know, the more I think about it, I actually kinda wish Martin Scorsese voice acted more often. For a director, his delivery is actually really solid.

I just wanted to say the reason the dialogue is so natural and probably why it’s so weird is because they filmed almost all the character interactions with the voice actors in the same room and a lot of improv was involved.
The movie was essentially a big joke. The reason Martin Scorsese is a pufferfish in this movie is because someone in the creative team thought “imagine if Martin Scorsese agreed to this” so he showed him concept art of the character and he thought it was hilarious so he agreed.

I love it in animation where characters VA’s record in the same room. It just makes the preformance more realistic movies like Rango go the extra mile by having the actors preform like it’s a live action film

my aunt had this movie on dvd and since she didn't have any kids, this movie was the only thing she had to entertain me when i used to see her from time to time, so i used to watch it over and over and i had completely forgotten abt it and thought i made the movie up in my head till i saw this video. unlocked so many core memories.

Spongebob almost always forgets about the underwater aspect that when they actually adress it, it makes for hilarious moments. Like how the Campfire extinguishes itself when Patrick adresses the logical flaw or when the fish mother puts on Water wings on her child, causing her to raise to the surface.

It's a horrible movie, that doesn't mean you aren't allowed to love every minute of it. The plot is nonsensical, the universe it's built in is slipshot and not thought out, the plot relies on loud screaming to prevent anyone from quietly asking what the fuck is going on and why everyone is believing that one CLEANER WRASSE somehow managed to kill A SHARK.
The things they literally swim into the mouths of to clean the gunk out from between their teeth.
THis movie was entirely awful. It also is hilarious to many people, and that's perfectly ok. I love Awful Games Block at GDQ and Kuso games in general, unironically. There is nothing wrong with loving something that is objectively bad, because sometimes the worst things just hit the right nerves to be enjoyable.

You know, movies that are actually fun for everyone who watches them instead of just for the youngest members of the audience.

He's a fish. It's a fish society and I get his point that they're a civilized society so why would they eat each other but - why are we imposing human morality on fish, even if they have a human level of technology? Like, the lions in lion king arguably have a civilization if they're not technologically on-par with humans: they have culture, a political system, factions, and their culture clearly understands tool use (Rafiki's staff, traditionally painting the heir's forehead with paint).. but I assumed they still eat the other animals
Maybe it's just kind of accepted that hey, we have a civilization, but some fish still eat other fish. Maybe it's like Bojack Horseman, where some chickens are deliberately mutated/bred to be food animals.
Why would fish society be anti-fish consumption just because they have buildings and view human movies if they just, inherently view eating fish as okay. Moral relativism!

I don't know man, just because a character acknowledges that they're terrible doesn't mean it automatically makes it better. She's still a predictable annoyance throughout the film. If they actually DID something funny with her abuse, then maybe, but they don't do that.
What? If anything that makes her one of the WORST characters. She acknowledges that her motivations are garbage and she continues to be garbage anyways. Oscar is a dumbass but he truly thought that a ride to fame was automatically a good thing and lo and behold, sexy fish girl wanted him to believe it, since, yknow, she was the toxic person in the relationship. Plus, her character works because Oscar is too stupid to realize shes superficial or just too obsessed with being somebody or whatever. I actually liked that they made her upfront "iam a goldigger" trait. Saved me the really bad character writing i couldve seen instead. I do admit her revenge plot was pretty lame. They couldve done better.

One day, shark tale was playing on our tv and my mom ask me to come watch it with her. I refused and left. Around a month later it was playing on our tv again, this time I asked my mom to come watch it with me and she paused, looked up at me and said “that movie’s a crime”.
What's actually kinda sad is that I find Lenny's story pretty interesting, at least more so than Oscars, and it honestly should've been the main focus. A vegetarian shark runs away from his home to live in a fish society under a disguise. He gets along fine, then Oscar, who is a social outcast and egotistical asshole, can be the antagonist who learns Lenny's little secret, and blackmails him into helping with Oscars shark slayer scheme.
That story could go places.
Change the horrendous character design and we have an actual movie

Or how about make it about the Renee Zellweger fish who loves Oscar but then he gets attention for slaying a shark and starts ignoring her and then she mentions it to him and he lashes out to her, it can teach kids about abusive relationships and how to get out of them

as a kid I loved it honestly. I couldnt of course notice the details like the shops in the city, cause i was a non english speaking kid and those store werent where I live at the time. But I remember loving the overall atmosphere of the film. It was so different from every other movie we knew. It almost felt like a normal movie rather than animated
