Another good tip is if you're going to use an L-shaped adapter, don't forget to check what WATTAGE RATING it's for. As far as I've seen on the market, there are TWO VERSIONS for these 12vhpwr 90 degree adapters. One is rated for 450w. The other is rated for 600w. Check to make sure your 4090 model is not one of those that go above 450w out of factory (e.g. the Strix, or the Gigabyte Gaming OC) if you plan on using the 450w rated adapter. The materials for the 450w adapters are probably only able to handle the low tier 4090s at best. There is a 4090 tier list here on YT that has all models of the 4090 listed with their power ratings on a chart.

I bought a pre-built customised computer, and the cable goes with a pretty nasty bend OVER the graphics card. The company I bought it from has been in business for decades, and been doing high end gaming setups for at least 15 years at this point as well. They give 5 year warranty on their entire system, so they are confident in what they sell. I've had 3 PCs in 15 years at this point, and they all still run to this day. Now this still spooks me out but I doubt asking them about it would result in anything other than "nah we do it well dw".

    • @tiltingart9276

I'd never buy a pre built PC, just for the fact that you won't ever know if they used repaired parts or used ones. With 0 experience but enough brain, Imade a 2 week thorough esearch and now I'm confident to build my 4090 set, buying directly from retailer as new parts, with a little bit of help doing the Mobo connections. Don't do that ever again, if you still plan to upgrade in the near future. 15 years ain't matter

Im after this question as well. From what I have gathered. If you have a 4070 ti that comes with the 2 8 pin connector you connect 2 seperate pcie 6+2 cables that came with you psu and than plug those into 2 pcie 8 pin on psu. I heard not to use only 1 pcie cable by using the 2nd pigtail 6+2 on the same pcie cable and must use 2 seperate pcie cables and the main 6+2 connectors on each or you wont get proper power.

    • @CharlesSmith-io9fp

Whatever cable you use needs to be rated at 600 watts. Don't even think of using a 450 watt cable of any kind. You can also get a 90% adapter. It plugs in and makes a 90 degree angle then you plug your cable into it. Don't skimp for a cheap one and make sure it's also rated for 600 watts. It eliminates any sharp bend in your cable and only sticks out about 5/8's inch in front of your card.

As an engineer, I can tell you that high current, even across low resistance connections, AMPLIFIES the current draw and even small resistances in the connections create large voltage drops, which generate heat. Minifit Jr connectors (the larger PCI-8 connectors) are pretty good at distributing current flow evenly, but the smaller connector on board the RTX 4070 is a Microfit Jr connector. These pins are smaller and cannot handle the load as well. These companies are cheating themselves by reducing the connector size. Three PCI-8 connectors (8 x 3) are SUPERIOR to the 24 pins (12 for power, 12 for ground) on the GPU card. Therefore, making use out of ALL of the pins on the GPU connector is critical for load sharing.
Now for the boring math stuff; A RTX 4070 ti (reportedly) draws 300W. At 12V input, that's 25AMPS (300W / 12V = 25A). With 12 pins for power on the GPU (25A / 12 pins = 2A), that's 2 AMPS PER PIN! This is ballpark, because I dunno what the PCIe-x16 connector itself draws or can handle as far as wattage.

Surprised there is no 90degree (or even 180) adaptor. In any case other than vertical mounting (which is useless in tempered glass cases), cables will want to travel at 90degrees, and mostly up (to not interfere with fans...).

I have O11D XL and the cable is bulky and touches the panel. I would advise not to use 3rd party cables as most issues are stemming from 3rd party mods. Instead, I used a stupidly simple solution to get rid of the bend. I vertically mounted my GPU, now it even runs 2 degrees cooler. 62C on hotspot while playing Cyberpunk 2077 on RT Ultra.

I just picked up a new Asus 4080 strix (Non-OC) and now I'm lost on how to connect those 90* adapters or the power for that matter.
Since they usually have the 2 or 3 8-pin PCI-e plugs but they all state that you shouldn't plug the adapter cable directly into the PSU.
So maybe just use a 90* adapter and 2 or 3 8-pin PCI-e plugs that come with your PSU?
Also, is it ok to use your PSU's PCI-e plugs that have the 6+2 thingy to plug into the 3 way 8-pin power adapter?
    Thanks for the video!

Gonna have to disagree in plugging it in last. If anything you should plug in the adapter BEFORE you put it in your system, so you can 100% confirm it's connected and apply enough force without risk of damaging your motherboard or the card, since it isn't supported by any sort of sag bracket at that point.

    • @stormrider01

Thanks for the video Robeytech! I have another concern which should help others. Make sure your PSU has three dedicated PCI-E power connectors so that each adapter plug gets the same full dedicated voltage. (NO Pig Tails!) I'm using a Lian Li Lancool 216 with a Corsair RM 1000X PSU with the supplied 3 pin adapter. Plug the 12/16 pin in GPU last after your cable management runs are done and in their final placement. (Don't pull on the adapter after being installed on the plugged in GPU)
