@@kr00tman I bought the C-series Pro ModMesh 12VHPWR black with white cable. Other than the plastic cable shroud over the connector being a bit flimsy, the build quality is exceptional. I bought the vertex gx-1200 and will use the supplied 600w connector. They recommend in the box to not bend the first 35mm close to the connector of both side, the one connected to the power supplied and the side connected to the graphic card. @@kr00tman Will do, much appreciated. :)
IF your GPU comes with a 4 plug adapter, use the included adapter fully.. don't use one less plug and DO NOT DAISY CHAIN THE PSU CABLES.. You are introducing a variable that NVIDIA removed themselves in testing and the quad plug is included for when the GPU actually tries to pull UP TO 600W which can be done without manual overclocking. If it was meant to be used with less than what came in the box, it would have been included in the box that way.
As long as you use 3 individual pcie cables going into their own ports on the GPU you are fine
But what about the corsair cable???
@@mattfire8579 The corsair cable which is 2x8 pin to 16 pin is enough. it is rated for 600W. each cable can deliver 300w
why cant I daisy chain? thats what Im doing right now for the 4090?
@@senbonzakura662 You're putting more power demand on your 12v PCIE rails. Unless you have a power supply that has a 12vhpr cable, OR are using a 16pin to two or three 8pin cable like the cablemod cable(the one that plugs directly into the pcie ports on the PSU, not with that janky 16pin to 4x8pin one that came with your card) you're risking shorting something out and bricking the card or the PSU, or the entire system. With modern GPU's, using those pigtail daisy chain cables is a massive risk. There is a reason why bigger creators don't do it and have either the cablemod cable that goes straight from the PSU to the GPU, or multiple, single 8pin pcie cables for the adapter.
Bro, what do you think about the corsair atx 3.0 cable with 12 + 4 pin connector. Is it safe?
I dont see why it wouldnt be?
What case are you using in this video? In what cases are recommended for use for not bending cables?

06:47 what about specifically for the 4070 ti? will using the 12VHPWR cable with one of those that has two be an issue? I would assume it wouldn't. EDIT: I have a 12700f, with a b660 motherboard that uses 32 gb of ddr4 at 3400 mhz, currently with a 3060ti and plan on using msi's 4070ti ventus (the non oc) it comes with the 12VHPWR cable and my PSU is the NZXT C650 (from what I've seen in past videos, my psu should be fine, so 06:47 caught my attention) for _my very own specific use case_ I think it should be fine for a 4070 ti? considering I have the 12700f in its locked power state of 65w.
umm honestly I think so, maybe undervbolt to be safe, I ran a 3090 off a 700 watt psu with a 5600x with zero issues (but i did undervolt it) just make sure you use 1 single pcie cable per plug, treat it like a 3090 in terms of pwer

Will my corsair hx1000 from 2020 only pull 450 watts with the direct replacement cable from corsair?
ATX 3.0 only has added low power mode to allow better efficiency at idle, that's what the sense cables/pins are for. If you don't have ATX 3.0 it means nothing for performance, just that it will be using just a few more watts at idle. Feel free to use to two connector cable, just be aware that now you have to make sure every connection is secured
Side note; if your PSU has multiple 12v rails and each pair of 8-pin connectors are on deferent rails you will need to make sure you plug in one 8-Pin from each rail to make sure you don't overload one rail. I saw that back in the day with extreme OC'ing on GPU's with two 8-pins. There's usually a chart on your PSU telling you
The 3 plug and 4 plug are simply for redundancy from the added failure points by adding more connectors in general, that comes from the horses mouth Jonnyguru. The PCIe 5.0 power connector IS the same as two 8 pin connectors with redundancy taken out just to make the connector smaller, again.. Jonnyguru's words.. and the man designs PSU's for Corsair
*could be the multiple 12v rail issue again, if you're forced to use 3+ connectors that will make sure at least one of the connectors is pulling power from the other rail
But you're totally right, the only "failure" point isn't the actual cables or connectors, it's the bad design that allows a false sense of it being fully connected.
Do you use all 4 pins in the 4 pin adapter if you have a 1200 watt psu?
I just want to know where you get the information about this three cable and four cable which one is the correct to use? Who is saying that?
I heard the click, no gap on top, but it was still kinda loose like if I moved the cable left and right I would start seeing the gap, what do you think? Is that normal?
Sorry for the late reply, I think id reinstall it one more time, and check the result, but as long as you hear the CLICK, you should be ok

Excellent quality video. Congratulations on the job.

I can't really agree with the 3 = 4 statement. If the extra PCIE cable would not make sense, they wouldn't have put it.
But let's assume that you have a 850w PSU and you don't OC, so the 3 cables would suffice the purpose. I would still use the 4 cables adapter just for the sole purpose of distributing less power on each PCIE cable, therefore putting less stress on the adaptor and the 4 PCIE cables.
If your GPU takes up 400W, wouldn't the wattage per PCIE cable be 100W with 4 cables instead of 133W with 3 cables? And if this assumption, which is more like a technical intuition is wrong, please correct me, because I'm in the position of using either the 2 PCIE to 16pin 12VHPWR cable that came with the PSU (Seasonic Prime TX 1600) or the 4 PCIE adaptor that came with the graphics card (rog strix oc 4090).
Right now I opted for the Seasonic 2xPCIE cable, but the gpu does not go higher than 460w even when pushed with oc. This alone makes me wonder if I shouldn't have used the 4x adapter that came with the gpu instead. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my video!
So to respond to your first point, Msi at least (im not sure about the other aibs as I don't own their models, adapter wasnt a 4 pin, it was a 3 pin.
To your 2nd point the plug is a smart plug which means it regulates how much power can pass through each cable, The atx 3.0 psus are designed to handle the full load via the new cables, and if your using the 4 pin adapter (with all 4 pluged in) its designed to take up to the max of 400 watts.
As far as using the cable or the adapter, I use both, ( have a corsair adapter for my msi 4090, and I use 3 of the 4 pins on my founders in my other gaming pc) I can tell you the difference for me at least is only ascetic's, so its basically personal choice either or will work just fine. I also dont oc either of my 4090s, both are plugged into 850 watt psus.
I hope this helps!

hello so my question is that, I bought a Corsair hx850 80+ platinum psu because im planning to upgrade to a rtx 4080 which needs 3 8 pin cables, when the psu arrived I found out that it only has 2 separate 8 pin pcie cables with daisychains at the end of each, is it ok for me use 1 cable daisychain and 1 separate 8 pin pcie cable? or do I need to upgrade my psu again. PS, I dont get corsair, the older version of the Hx850 had 3 separate 8 pin pcie cables with daisychains so why did they change it now to only having 2 separate 8 pins, and the other kicker for me is that this PSU has 3 4+4 EPS power cables instead of 2 like what the hell is up with that?

For ATX 3.0 PSU (16pin 12VHPWR port) would this be okay?

@Kr00tman tech and mining! I see, thank you for the clarification, I'm working on upgrading my razer lian li 011d mid tower, the strix 4090 broke me, so I was forced to get a used hx1200 and a used h150i corsair 360mm to replace my loop to have the room, I'm terrified of the used psu more than anything as its used and its size, the wiring is also a mess as it's a cyberpower pc... its gonna be my first time hands on with wiring, luckily I believe my extensive research and learning is enough to build pretty much anything now with better cable management than the "pro wiring" they offer, I'm so terrified of the psu killing my pc, but my budget is extremely tight with virtually no room to spoil myself again for a good while, I'm gonna test it first on a much cheaper build with a 1660 gpu before I throw it in my premium non premium wired build. Quick edit, the 1660 I guess wouldn't be a proper way to test it lol

check this video out I just released
I have the Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090. NVIDIA says I need at least three connections. Thermaltake includes a single cable to go from the PSU to the GPU and says it'll be fine.
its a different kind of cable as the video explains
@kr00tman I get that, it's just that MVIDIA support was adamant that it had to be wjth a 3 or 4 prong connection.
Great video thank you - I got the FE and it came with no cables, not an enthusiast either lol (ditched apple after an abusive 15 year relationship two years ago). Managed to find the custom cable from SeaSonic that will go direct from my GX 850, will need to upgrade that eventually as I also plan on having two of these at least. Thanks again for the video
are those 3 cables from vga? the ones that comes from psu
like and subsc! nice video bro, tomorow im getting my 4080, cant wait:) the Corsair 12VHPWR is good for 4080 strix? my Power supplay is seasonic focus GX 850W.
Thank you! You shouldn't need it for the 4080! But the Corsair cable only works for their psus
@@kr00tman bro my psu have only 2 cable pcie 8 pin(kit stock) and i need 3 to connect my GPU...is any problem if i use exetention cable for psu to GPU ?
@@ilabanks yes that will be a problem imo unless you use like a custom cable that's compatible with your psu
I am not sure if I plugged in the 12vhpwr cable correctly and I want to re-plug it. But I can't unplug it. How do I unplug it?
What do you mean you can't replug it?
@@kr00tman It is plugged in and I want to unplug and replug it so I hear a click sound. ButI cannot unplug it as it is too tight. I guess I need to press on the latch while applying force.
@@chuliu1 just a little bit but, you have to be very careful.
Thanks
Dont forget to like and subscribe and check out my guide to using psu cables here, DONT MIX AND MATCH!!

So is it ok to plug in 3 out of 4 it’s not dangerous leaving 1 unplugged??
Yup it's perfectly fine
Ok, thank you I was worried a spark or something might happen.
Would you get a 4 prong adapter for 4080 and I rock a 1200 watt psu
It can't hurt
Ur my goat bro thx
If my cable doesn’t click what are good alternatives to but
so i have 1200 Watts but i wont OC can i just plug in all 4 just for the sake of it?
That's up to you, at that point it comes down to the looks and also for what it's worth if you only plug 3 in you actually can't go above 450
now i'm torn on using the cable that came with the Thor PSU or this lian li strimer rgb one. lol
So no pigtails can be used with the 4090? I have a phanteks revolt pro 1000w but the giy who put it together for me only left me 2 cables. Enough for the 3080ti and it was enough with a 4080s with 2 plugs and 1 pigtail. Im so lost lolol
None, you need 3 pcie cables un pigtailed or the 12hpwr cable
