    The thermals concerned me too. I think it is especially worth pointing out that your base XPS 15 with internal graphics was almost throttling. Upgrading to the i7 and putting a dedicated graphics chip into the mix would certainly thermal throttle a lot.

I really wanted the 2060 but I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have a home version with the 2060 and FHD+ because I agree that the UHD really isn’t necessary and I wanted the longer battery life. They do have a “work” version with it but I couldn’t use my discounts, rewards, and finance deals with it. So the UHD version it was but I was able to get it at $2500 including tax!

    XPS 15 vs XPS 17 (full HD panel/i7 10750H 6 core/GTX 1650 Ti both), which one is the best for you ?
    I was wondering which one of these two models is the best, since I'm buying from Italy and there's a €360 difference between them. I've heard that the XPS 17 had a better cooling system, even though the XPS 15 already has no throttling issues; I wanted to buy the full HD panel model for a better battery life.
    The question is: is the €360 gap between prices worth it? Or should I just buy the XPS 15? Thanks in advance.

    For me it was the 15 inch no question. You forgot to say one thing in your review, if you want a laptop as a home desktop replacement you DO want 4k... battery won't matter since it's plugged in. And with that being said, the XPS 15 is $1000 cheaper with both being 4k. I don't know about you, but I am not going to pay 1 grand for two more inches , you can buy 5 smart TVs for that money. @@shingetsu10 Still, having 4K on a 15 inch display is kind of an over kill. If you use it in bed or on the sofa you're basically using it is a protable device. If you want to use it a desktop replacement you'll probably work over a desk, and therefore a monitor is a better solution.

    • @TaioTai
      @TaioTai Před 4 lety +2

      As a desktop replacement, while i see the price point difference, i would say the better cooling system is far more important when running intensive tasks, especially if you are running a 4k screen and therefore more power and more heat. A desktop replacement can also be more expensive because it's not just a secondary option or a more travel friendly one, it's your only editing machine and so it needs to run like a charm. In fact the cooling needs outweigh the 4k benefits on any screen below mid 20 inches. YT, IG, FB, etc. Won't really be showing you anything in 4k. If you, like me, kinda want the 4k anyway, that's fine but it certainly isn't a reason to go 15.6 instead of 17 in and of itself.

Overall, my laptop never gets hot, it's only throttled one time on the first day if I remember. It's down to personal preference in the end, everyone has different needs

    A comparison with the XPS would be nice😁
    The same spec models ( i7-10750H, 16Gb ram, 1To ssd, no touch screen, GTX 1650 Ti, ...) are 1500€ for the inspiron and 2200€ for the XPS 15

    • @PieMan061
      @PieMan061 Před 4 lety

      You can get an excellent desktop for $2000. A lot of the money in laptops comes from form factor and trying to get everything in a small footprint. Desktops have better cooling due to their size as well so it’s easier to keep the components maintained. Just be warned: if you get a desktop, be sure to include the peripherals (keyboard, monitor) in your budget and not just the computer itself.

    I ordered my 9500 in 8/2020. The trackpad clicks work intermittently. It's very frustrating to use the laptop with the touchpad. I called Dell and they sent a repair technician to my house. The new palm rest/keyboard/trackpad also has the wireless antenna. The cable for the antenna was defective. The technician tried for over an hour to get the cable to work, losing his temper and throwing his tools in my livingroom. The technician also said that Dell doesn't know how to design a laptop. He also got mad when he had an extra part he didn't remember where it went back to. He couldn't get the antenna cable back on but did something with a screw to hold it next to it and told me he didn't have all night to sit here and try to fix it. After the machine was "finished" it still had the same click problem. I called Dell and the first two customer service reps hung up on me. I have been trying to speak to a manager for almost a week now to get a replacement unit sent. I'm telling you, I will never buy another Dell product as long as I live. I should have bought a MBP.
