Another great thorough review. The Dell XPS 17 with 4K Touch display, RTX 2060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, then upgrade the RAM to 64GB and add another SSD is currently my preferred purchase option. I'm planning for a Black Friday purchase in November.
Your review highlighted downsides of low latency of the display/audio and battery drain under high performance loads - but I can probably live with those.
I've watch a lot of laptop reviews for at least 18 months and the XPS 17 is currently my favourite laptop to purchase. I was originally going for a Alienware 15 or 17 but when they started soldering in the RAM I shied away from Alienware.
Such an amazing display, yet most reviewers don’t even bother to change the wallpaper.
Been waiting for this hell yeah!

Nice review Jarrod. I was tempted to get this but as you say its so expensive for the performance you get. I would be tempted more with the Razer 17 perhaps but I do like that battery life :)

Hi Jarrod I thought the low end configure like the i7 6 cores, GTX1650Ti and FHD+ Display would set you around 2.1kg based on the internet I saw? 😅Anyways love your content and would you recommend this over the Alienware m15 r2?🤔I mainly bring it for school work, a little gaming and video editing🙏💯💯
I prefer the XPS 15 but curious to see how the 17 have to offer! I think the size of XPS 17 would be equivalent to the Alienware isn’t it, since the Ali have huge as air vent at the back
Thanks Jarrod, great review. I have two questions for you, 1) Can it be used outdoor? Can I work in park with this laptop during the day? (My actual laptop Dell latitude is too glossy, I cant work outside during the sunny day). 2) Can we connect this laptop to power supply and 3 4k monitors on the same time?
Great review. I bet the magnets are made to be stronger since it turns on when you open the screen. This prevents the screen from flopping open in a bag maybe?

@Gaurav Raj Panta i recommended getting the 1660ti as its cheaper plus apparently on the normal legion 5 the 2060 is the 80w version... but on the legion 5p (which depends if you have it in ur contry) has the 110w 2060 which is more powerful but the laptop itself is a bit more expensive then normal legion 5... so yeah
This is the kind of laptop I would get if $2k felt like spending $20...

Don't know if this is something Dell added recently or if it's exclusive to models with the RTX 2060, but there is an option in the BIOS to route external displays through the NVIDIA GPU. Setting it allowed me to enable G-Sync on an external monitor.

Really thanks for this great review but are you sure you have a 97 watt hour battery on non Touch full HD model. Since on Dells website they mentioned you only get 56 watt hour. Please clarify because I’m looking to buy the exact same configuration?

Good quality content! I returned my XPS 17 due to overheating shutdowns, getting a new one though. Love the clean and white desk, would like to know the desk link if possible!
UPDATE: The new XPS 17 came yesterday and it's a disappointment! Left speaker doesn't work at all! COME ON, DELL! GET YOUR QC WORK TOGETHER! After looooong calls with the Technical Support Team, it was not fixed. I'm getting a replacement until I get one w/o any issues. I don't think we deserve this if we's buying a product with such a high price tag! If the third one is also a defect product, that's gonna be some serious QC issues with the XPS product line!

@@xers8719 Works fine but I occasionally got loud weird fan noises like something is chopping inside. I will probably go Mac with Apple’s own chip if it wasn’t past the 30 days return window. My next laptop will be Mac for sure, never trust Dell’s QC ever again.
@@patrickwu8415 im actually having the same problem with the fan noise on my macbook pro, and I was thinking of switching to xps but since it happened to you three times I'd rather not.
I have 5 questions with Dell XPS 17 :
1. Can I use two power bricks to solve the charging problem ?
2. Can I disable the dedicated GPU somehow ?
3. Can I use high refresh external display for gaming ?
4. Can I use e-GPU with it ?
5. Does the battery continue to drain while using e-GPU with an External Display ?
The undervolting problem comes from the Intel security Patches in the Bios, had the same problem after updating the bios on my dell G5 (has something to do with voltage regulation access or something like this).
in my case it was possible to enable it back by reset the Bios to factory reset , dont know why , but it work for me XD

One suggestion: for the 'lower is better' graphs eg. 12:09 , it should be sorted top - lowest and bottom highest, instead of the other way round.
Since all the usb c port are power delivery, can you plug more than one charger to supply more power?

In Czechia, the XPS 17 starts at around $4000 for the i7 model, even Macbooks 16” are cheaper ...
Even though this laptop is great... I am still gonna buy the Acer Predator Helios 300 2020 model. And nothing can change my mind about that. Hoping Jarrod can do a full review on it soon. Due to him being very informative in each single test, which I do greatly appreciate.

I got this computer with higher graphics rtx 2060, iclre 7 10875H and 4k screen fro 2500 dollars in the USA. Its powerful. It does have a trackpad problem and im getting a replacement.

Same here! and 32gb ram and 1tb storage at same $2500.
Thankfully no trackpad issue and no latency issues either. only thing i have to check is the battery drain being worse than it should be.

I think you did not inderstand the power drain issue: 1. yes it drains the battery under load, that is how Dell designed it but 2. the charger in many many cases (including mine) will never provide more than about 100W to the notebook. (when measuring directly at the power outlet). That means that there is 30W less in the power budget, so the battery is draining even more. Under heavy load mine drains about 1% per minute.

Hey Jarrod , I am confused between 3750h RTX 2060(asus tuf fx505dv) vs 9300h gtx1660ti(Helios 300). Helios is about $100 cheaper but tuf comes with 120hz screen while Helios is only 60hz. I need it for gaming and coding purpose, pls help.
For me this would be perfect if dell offered a high refresh rate option because it doesn't matter whether you are gaming or browsing, you can really notice the smoothness!

Are you reviewing all kinds of laptops now? Not just gaming ones? I mean, this does have a graphic card, but isn't necessarily a gaming laptop. Are you planning on reviewing something like the HP Spectre x360 15"? That one has a graphic card too, just not nearly as beefy as others cause it's a 2in1. It is 4K and OLED with a touch display, and I'm very interested in a review cause literally nobody has been reviewing it for some reason. It's been out for a month and I've only seen 1 or 2 reviews from big channels

Nice job as always. This is a hard sell when you can get more performance with a 4800H and a better card for $600 less. Looks nice but as long as the laptop isn't butt ugly that is not my number one or eighth priority.
It's been a while that I'm looking for a 17" laptop for my next device. this is interesting but not my choice! max-17 and GS75 are better options but I'm waiting for a 17" Zephyrus that has an standard keyboard placement! they can remaster GM501 with a 17 inch display! i hope it comes to reality!
