  • The Untold Story Of Yasuke: From Slave To History’s First Black Samurai
    The first foreigner to achieve samurai status was a mysterious black man who went by the name Yasuke. He befriended and served Oda Nobunaga - a fearsome feudal lord and one of the leading figures of the Sengoku period. The fascinating story of Yasuke is the highlight of some of the most iconic events in war-torn Japan. His skills as a warrior, his precision, and his strength made this black samurai a deadly opponent. Here is a quick look at the legendary tale of the first black man to become a samurai.

    Thank Oda Nobunaga for even having an interest in him enough to make Yasuke his sons vassal, even Yasuke is talked about in Matsudaira Ietadas diary and i do think, if memory serves, that Yasuke was with Nobutada during the conquest of Koshu (Kai-Takeda) territory in 1582. Also Nobunaga at this time was nearing the end of his life and his unification effort was almost complete.
    Also, it isn't known if Yasuke actually participated in any battle, it is only known that he was with Nobunaga during the conquest of Koshu so the idea that fought "many" battles for Nobunaga isn't true.
    Many battles would be for people like Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Niwa Nagahide, Maeda Toshiie, Hayashi Michikatsu, Mori Yoshinari, Sakuma Nobumori and Sakuma Morimasa are just a few names i can think of men who fought basically most if not all of Nobunagas subsequent campaigns from Okehazama to Nagashino and others, id say most of his primary vassals ( those who were with Nobunaga even before he left to conquer Mino) were there for many battles.

    There is a Kuronbo Tomb in my neighborhood. Kuronbo means black people. And the person buried there is an Indian. Whether you are Japanese or not, if your skin is a little darker than others, people call you "Kuronbo." When I was a child, I was tanned from farm work and so on, so people called me Kuronbo. By the way, there was apparently a black journalist who claimed that "Sakanoue no Tamuramaro was a black man who fought against the Ainu," but the Ainu are a people who migrated south from Kamchatka around the 13th century, and are not the indigenous people of old. In Hokkaido, there are ruins of Jomon settlements from a warmer time. The Ainu are a non-settled hunting people who moved around in search of prey, but the Jomon are a settled people who also farmed.

However, when I was a child, "Chibi" was not a discriminatory word, but was the name of our pet dog. When we got the dog from a nearby house, it was very small, so we named it Chibi, but before I knew it, it had grown bigger than me when I was 7 years old. Words change depending on the ethnic group. I think it is strange that even traditional words are criticized as "discriminatory" by other ethnic groups. In my area, traditionally "kuro" did not only mean a color, but also the side of the road, the edge of a room, or a corner that does not get in the way of work. I am speaking of you as a person of Japanese descent, but in Japan, Korean organizations in Japan claim that it is discriminatory to report the names of Korean criminals in Japan by their real names as they appear on their passports. In particular, the Asahi Shimbun Company, which has been criticizing Japan for over 25 years for its false reporting on comfort women, does not report Korean criminals in Japan by their real names. It is said that many of the executives of Japanese media are Korean or Chinese in Japan.

    • @chosenasagao
      @chosenasagao Před 16 dny

      @@atsukorichards1675 In my personal opinion, the basis of the discrimination asserted by the West is the monotheistic faith of Jerusalem. The religions of the Three Brothers of Jerusalem are the same God. However, they denied each other and even killed each other. This was true both among Christians and among Muslims. Until the first half of the 20th century, colonial slavery, war, and black slavery were all justified in the name of God. (Rome once called Christianity a religion for slaves.) During civil rights demonstrations in America, black youths reportedly shouted "Black Power!" The white people who participated in the demonstrations were apparently frightened by this assertion. Anti-black groups such as the KKK may still exist today. However, in recent years in America, cases of anti-white people being hated by black people have arisen, and it seems that there are black groups that claim this is a justifiable act.

    We know he was Bushi but there is no evidence he was ever granted the title of Samurai.
    Not that that doesn't mean what he accomplished isn't praise worthy but people too often confuse Bushi with being a Samurai, which is a noble title.

    It takes one drop of black blood to be a true samurai. - ancient Japanese saying

  • @user-yo4fq9zb3j
    @user-yo4fq9zb3j Před 9 měsíci +1

    At that time, the close aides of high-ranking samurai were responsible for taking care of their lord's needs and protecting them on the battlefield, even using their own bodies as shields. In other words, it means Yasuke was highly trusted by Nobunaga. The Sengoku period wasn't an era where one could rise to power based solely on physical strength, athleticism, or appearance. To become a retainer of the most powerful daimyo in Japan at that time, one had to be intelligent, have excellent communication skills, and be sharp-witted. Coming from a completely different country with different language and culture, Yasuke must have been quite a talented individual to achieve such a position.
    By the way, during that time, same-sex relationships among samurai were not uncommon at all, and they were even considered more noble than heterosexual ones. It is well-known that Nobunaga engaged in sexual relationships with his pages. There's no concrete evidence that Nobunaga favored Yasuke in such a way, but it wouldn't be surprising if there were, so I'm adding this point for consideration.

    He was not a samurai. Skill as a warrior? Based on what??? He most definitely was not considered divine. The black statues had nothing to do with skin color. You must be born a samurai, it is not something awarded. It was a social class. No proof he fought a single battle. And his Japanese was good, but not fluent. He fled after battle and was captured. He was considered so cowardly and craven that his captor considered that killing him would be like killing an animal. If he was so important why is so little known or recorded?
    So much false information and wishful thinking.

    Im mad about this. For centuries, the Japanese people knew full well about this but kept their mouths shut and hind this secret away from the entire world and what they did to his name they gave it to their criminal organization mobsters, Japanese people tainted his name & his history for centuries and when a Black professor found out about a Black Samurai and brought his legacy to life again, years later the Japanese people are welcoming acknowledging the Black Samurai to the public and all of you Anime fans are ignoring this obvious insult to our culture. So not only I’m Mad at the Japanese people but I’m Mad & sick over my own people. You refuse to held the Japanese people accountable for this racist act because you love Anime and Asian women
