Something to note: Keep in mind that I'm just a normal guy who loves cars. I'm not a trained mechanic, although my father was. If something interesting car wise comes up, I try to film it and upload it for entertainment and the "look at what I done" factor. Pat me on the back, or give me a "good game" pat on the butt. These videos are meant to inspire other DIYers. Working on cars can be dangerous, even life threatening, if the proper cautionary measurements aren't taken. You also run the risk of damaging your vehicle and or voiding your warranty. If for any reason you feel like the job is too big to handle, I would suggest consulting with a professional mechanic.

Imagine driving next to a Chevy Cruze and seeing a laptop and hearing it spool
I followed a few Mustangs to see if I could get a race in to see what it would but they were never going the direction I was.
the ecos are turbocharged. at first i thought he swapped turbos but i guess now
not

@@cmattdabrat i know. im talking about the 1.4 thats in the cruze ecos. i like the build tho and the car sounds good. keep it up brother
It’s just so dope to see that car with a turbo I’m loving it
Thank you! I'll keep the videos coming as things progress. Did you say more boost?! lol
Matthew Chevalier hell yeah mo powa baby
Lmao just found you and I’m stoked on these. It’s like donut media but one guy.
I was just thinking this. Looks like he is doing it out of a rental garage I have mad respect for him!

LOL, that's a huge compliment. I appreciate it.
it reminds me of mighty car mods

Could you feel a sizable difference?

I had the same oil catch can on my Saab. Kick ass project you have!

So cool!!! You got some serious talent...

dude. this has been the best 2 hours, watching this thing come alive. I own a 2014 rs. 6spd. This thing is gonna be nice when it's fully tuned, and running good.
Thanks, bro! I currently have her apart to install some forged pistons, upgraded valve springs and retainers, beefier connecting rods, larger injectors, port and polished head, LS coil upgrade, larger turbo, and equal length manifold. Shooting for 450+whp.

Hey Matthew ✌🏽, just want to say I’m a fan of your videos. Simple explaining on complex topics, but extremely informative. I’ve been self learning a lot on mechanics and working/modifying on my 1.8L Cruze to keep my mind stimulated since my college has been shutdown with the virus still out there. I am actually about to start ordering parts for some forced induction on my Cruze since I have maxed it out in its original naturally aspirated state. I have a couple questions I’ve been wanting to ask anyone for some advice prior to starting. Seems you’d be the person to ask since you’ve gotten a lot further than I have. Anyway to get in touch?
Hey Lucas! Feel feel free to reach out to me at 281-900-5731. Text or call.

Nice!
Oh no, my sister is gonna sell her cruze with the 1.8 and 6sp soon. If I keep watching this video, I'm gonna be ridiculously tempted to buy it and turbo.
LOL, you should go for it. Definitely has the set of the pants feel of at least double the horsepower when boost kicks in.
@@cmattdabrat Problem is, I don't need another car. I've got an 04 passat with the 1.8t that I'm currently rebuilding. Block head and rotating assembly is at the machine shop now and I have to rebuild the trans too. Probably have around 275-300 wheel for now, but if that turbo goes, it'll have everything other than manifold and turbo to support 500. It gets a touch pricey, but I love doing it.
@@GreatLakesLogger Nice! I feel you. Mine is at the machine shop. Rotating assembly balanced, aluminum flywheel, upgraded rods, Je is making custom piston (but taking forever), reground camshafts, LSD and CNC transmounts... Let's just say the price is more than the car is worth, but it's a damn fun project. Trying to set a world record for most hp and fastest 1/4 mile time...for a Chevy Cruze that is.
@@cmattdabrat Very cool! I have stock replacement (so far as I know) Mahle pistons and maxpeeding rods con rods. Chinese I know, butthey seem to have reasonably good reviews. What turbo are you using? I'm using a XS ko4-based turbo with 42mm billet comp wheel and rs6 turbine wheel. They claim 340 crank, 300 wheel. I'm thinking if this one goes, I'll probably put a Pulsar gtx2867 or similar on. I love low end torque, so as fun as it could be, I don't really want too big of a turbo.
@@GreatLakesLogger Nice! Check out some of my latest videos. I actually have some rods from Maxpeedingrods.

You killed me when u had to lube-er up to get thru that boot 😂
LOL! No one likes squeeing things in dry.
I have the exact car and I want to turbo my 1.8L 2014 cruze
Nice! Not too difficult. You'll just need to make a turbo exhaust manifold. Hardest part. Aside from tuning.
A wideband gauge doesn’t replace a functional sensor your car is already using to run properly. You add it to the exhaust system to monitor your afr. No wonder your car doesn’t run right. Down stream is better then upstream sensor as most cars run a wideband style sensor on the top nowadays.
Thanks for the tip, Ryan!

Hey Matt love the channel. Looking to do the turbo and boost gauge on my 1.8L. Do you have a list of all the specs and parts you ordered or fabricated to make this work? Also how much would you say you spent overall for this project?
Thanks! It was around $1300 give or take. I believe the parts are list in the description of my videos. If not, I'll put one together. Most expensive part was HPTuners at $700ish. Just remind me and I''ll drop a list of all the parts.
@@cmattdabrat yeah I already have a custom HP tuners tune with no limiter and revs to 6000 rpms. If you would put together for me that would be awesome man. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me.
Damn almost 8 pounds on stock internals cruze built like a hoss
With boost spikes of 10!

I'm not exactly sure how the a pillar airbag deploys in a crash but when I'm going to install gauges there going in the middle of the dash where the storage cubby is up top. I would be nervous the gauges will get blasted into your face. I am instead retaining the stock air bag cover trim.
The pillar has a retention clip so when the airbag deploys it'll swing out the way to let the airbag do it's thing.
Hey mate,
I'm wanting to upgrade my Cruze. She's a 2012 CDX Turbo Diesel. In manual.
I think she has problems with the manifold and coolant is draining really quickly. Otherwise she's a good car.
I want to upgrade her and fix her up. But I don't know where to start and don't have much tools right now. Don't know much about cars either but I'm wanting learn.
Are you able to do a video on how to start, with the basics? Aswell as good upgrades to the cruze engine?
Hey! I would be happy to help. Go through some of my videos and I cover quite a bit. Not the same engine, but they're all just air pumps.
I’m fucking loving the content dude! 2016 Chevy Cruze limited 1.8 gang 😎

@@cmattdabrat hell yea dude giving the Cruze some respect out here 😎 I have a question fam if you don’t mind I have the 2016 Cruze limited and everything looks very similar to mine I was wondering could I have all these mods on mine? I really don’t know the differences between the limited
@@jrgunman904 I believe the limited was just the last year they were producing the Gen I body style before they went to the new body and engine.
@@cmattdabrat good to know because I seen they stopped making that model in 2015 but 2016 looks exactly the same as the 2015 model so would everything made for the 15 work and fit for my 16 model sorry for the questions bro I’m just so intrigued by your Cruze build haha I love it
When pulling wiring through grommets, I like to spit on it and tell it how dirty it is. It seems to work every time.
Great tip! Thanks!
HEY MATT! where are you located, Dude? My 2012 Turbo RS could use a turbo upgrade, well maybe a few more upgrades throughout
Hey Ms. Neeva Edwards. I'm in Houston, TX.
My 1.4 Cruze seems to be making 26psi on the baro sensor on my scan tool stock. I never see it read vacuum though even on decel the baro is always positive around 9psi at idle and no throttle down hills. Still slow as hell the 1.4 barely gets out of its own way.
Are you reading off the map? Should be pulling vacuum. At 26 psi the car should be pulling hard.
This is encouraging me to turbo my 1.8 Cruze. Yea I’m going to for sure 💀
Nice! Check out the A16LET. Same engine block, but 1.6 and they came with a turbo from the factory. I'll upload a video in the near future of this conversion (talking head), but definitely a great route to go for some decent power.

Help me what blow of valve is this? I want it for my turbo car I can't find this sound!
Hey Tyler! It's a HKS BOV. Well, a Chinese knock off, but it'll give you that sound. amzn.to/3slBRFI
Just wondering how much it costed to put the turbo on I have a 1.8l 2014 cruze
It was a grand total of $1300.
i wonder how much power the stock rods can hold
It's unknown, but kits have been made overseas for the sam family of engine, lower displacement and higher, that make 250+whp. It's really all about ring gap for boost. Look up Richard Holdner.
Is it an manual transmission or automatic transmission on your Cruze
It’s a manual with the M32 6 speed trans.
Any chance you are related to the CB Media (CZcams channel) guy? It's wild how similar your voices and mannerism are.

@@cmattdabrat 😁👍
Ur cute lol I'm thinking about getting a 2012 rs
lol, thanks! You should. They're great cars.
I need help been trying to figure out how to turbo or supercharge my 08 Elantra just for fun not having much luck
I'd be happy to help! Biggest obstacle will be the manifold, and tuning. Everything else is pretty easy to find a universal kit for. Select a turbo based on your engine size, and power goals. A manifold could be made pretty easily and relatively inexpensive if you have a welder, or know someone that does that would be willing to lend a hand. Look around for tuning software that'll work with your ECU. This will probably be the most costly part. Aside from that, you're just compressing more air into your engine, and you'll need to add more fuel with larger injects. Most vehicles use fairly common injectors and come in all sorts of sizes. It'll take some homework. I feel ya, because there was little to no help with this project when it came to parts selection.
It's not worth doing that on an old Hyundai or any Hyundai for that matter...
@@t58beare so a Veloster or Genesis isn’t worth turboing?... Seriously?...
@@PureHades If you can buy it boosted stock, why waste money on all the parts when you can be adding more power with different tunes, bigger turbo, and building the engine? Plus relying on an ebay turbo (which most people will use to have a cheap build) is not the best idea, I have seen countless people blow their cars up from doing this.
@@t58beare someone doesn't watch boosted boys.
Ebay turbos reliably at 700hp lolol
Did you put a programmable computer to the car?
I tuned the car with HP Tuners which basically allows you to rewrite a lot of the parameters.
Is it the same computer you reuse for the job?
It's the factory computer and used HPTuners.
8:51 With all that you have to put your DNA into your work. It, it's customary.
It's tradition!!! lol
Is the stock ecu still active in the car?
It's the stock ECU and I use HPTuners to tune / write calibrations to the car.
I thought you would wait to install larger injectors and then tune it
Since I'm new to tuning, I didn't want to throw too many curveballs at once.. at least until I got more comfortable with the software / tuning.
Ok....nice job on the whole install. I'd like to do the same to my 2.4 Malibu but I don't have a shop or an extra car to drive while working on it. I'd have to pay someone to install.
Somethings wrong with those gauges brother lol
You should have 0 vacuum as soon as you hit the throttle. And the wideband should be 11-12 in boost. I know you need to tune more but i would look into a better brand vacuum boost guage.
LOL, cheap eBay vacuum gauge. I noticed that too. It initially worked, but I believe the cheap hose / tubing that comes with it was probably collapsing under vacuum because it initially worked. For stage 2 of this build, I got a AEMX boost gauge and controller to compliment the Wideband I have.
@@cmattdabrat nice!!!
Gm do a 1.6 turbo ecotec and a 2.0 ecotec and saab engine you should of looked at vxr Corsa same engine

@@cmattdabrat I got the LS also lol sick hopefully this summer we can meet up and talk ideas maybe do a vlog
@@matthewrodriguez552 I would be down for that!
I thought all of the LT and better were the 1.4T. Also, I have never seen a manual 1.8 just the 1.4T mostly the Eco.
@@a2cryss The LS models are the basic versions. Nothing fancy, no cruise control. 1.8 with a manual. I'm sure a lot of them cam with an auto, but I found mine at carmax in 2016 with low miles.
Just wondering why you didn’t just take it to a tuner shop. Is it due to cost?
When you email, or call a tuner, and you mention Chevy Cruze 1.8. There's a lack of enthusiasm, because it's not a Mustang, Camaro, Corvette...Honda... I've reached out to so many shops and they don't want to fool with it.
Didn’t know those came in manual, if that’s a clutch pedal I’m seeing 😳

Didn't want to risk the engine? First mistake was installing a $113 turbo. That's a ticking time bomb ready to send shrapnel into the intake manifold. Wait a couple years, don't say I didn't warn you. Look how huge that turbo is. What are you planning 700hp. Should match a turbo to your planned power output. If you don't plan on building the engine why put a huge turbo just sacrificing torque and response.
It's all just about having some fun and learning. If it comes apart, then it is what it is. 700hp, yes please! ;) I'm just seeing, and showing what can be done, on the cheap and learning along the way.
Not really
There must always be a blood sacrifice in order to appease the car God’s
I'll drink to that...
If you own a chevy cruise get rid of it soon. I owned a 2015 after 44k miles total failure on water pump with slippage of transmission even though I followed a proper pm routine. Junk!
You probably had the 1.4 with an auto. This car is the 1.8 NA with the manual M32. Completely different setup. I've had zero issues aside from the oil cooler leaking a tiny bit after 100k miles.
