    From what i read shaft play on new and rebuilt turbos is normal. As long as tbe blades dont touch the housing it should be fine. Side to side and up and down is okay. In and out is the problem.

      I already got most of it on the car and so far the only issues were redrilling 2 holes on the manifold, needed 2 smaller nuts for the manifold, and I had to cut 1 piece of intercooler piping for a better fit. So it's been going really smooth. I can definitely reiterate that well the overall quality isn't quite amazing, it is much better then the RDT kit. Next I have to test an EMUSA.

    In my thoughts the main flaw in the ebay kits wouldn't be the turbo but the sub par welds on the manifold.
    Crack> shrapnel> turbo eats metal> engine devours metal pieces> grenade.
    To me the piping, lines, hoses from ebay are okay. But invest in a good manifold. Got you a quality turbo set.

  • @Countrysidehvacservice
    @Countrysidehvacservice Před 6 lety +9

    Turbo timers are a cheaper option for people than remote starts. You have to actually run outside with your key, but you can warm up your car for 10 mins without being in it. Wisconsin winters are rough.

    • @wideband
      @wideband  Před 6 lety +3

    FWIW, my Mazdaspeed 3's factory wideband (yep, we get one from the factory, and a secondary too) is right after the turbo to DP flange and we have zero longevity issues with them. From bone-stock to 800+ whp, it doesn't matter... YMMV

    • @bower95
      @bower95 Před 6 lety

      Most newer cars have widebands, nothing special, same for the secondary. It is there to monitor cat efficiency.

    I hope it worked out for you but i don't know about cheap stuff. Ironically these Chinese turbos seem to hold up okay but I'd worry most about the header/manifold. I've seen some of these with issues with the welds cracking and leaking.
    Let me put it this way, the headers I'm looking at for my sbc cost more than this whole kit and they're not high end.

    • @wideband
      @wideband  Před 6 lety

      Hasn't cracked yet but I will agree turbo manifold is probably the best thing to upgrade after the car is set up. If it cracks I will probably grab a used sheepey built or 1320 manifold.

    • @wideband
      @wideband  Před 6 lety

      And yeah both of those brands cost more than this whole kit as well lol.

    • @177SCmaro
      @177SCmaro Před 6 lety

      Tyler's Garage lol, well, as they say ALL turbo manifolds eventually crack, better materials only buy you time.
      I'm torn between a cxracing single turbo kit, it's just headers and pipes for 1000 bucks, designed for a 1st gen camaro that I think will fit on my 2ed gen and just buying a good set of turbo headers and welding up some pipes myself. The former is less of a headache as all the fab work is done, the later would probably last longer but cost much more, and this is a drag car so it dosn't get many miles but gets a pretty good thrashing on the miles it does put down.

  • @nos1000100

      Straight from google: NPT threads are designed to be used with teflon tape or a similar sealer.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage Před 6 lety

      Yeah, they are designed to use sealer, otherwise you have to over tighten the hell out of them and damage the brass. Keep in mind quality and company standards and exact materials will all vary. The sealer is like a nice cushion for all those variables.

      boost gauge - 50
      320 lph fuel pump - 90

Car falling apart around it...lol can’t expect a lot. Has almost 200k on it but still a beast. If I had to guess I’d say it’s hitting close to 275-300. Check them out they are def worth it! Still dailying it and I’ll be honest my traction isn’t the best in 1st and second. I️ May end up with a b6 a4 and go stage 3 with that if I️ don’t put a clutch and single mass flywheel in this one.

      Tyler's Garage no problem. Idk how much boost you are pushing, but I was at 18psi and it leaked boost, and also hesitated closing quite a bit. When I turned it up to 22psi it almost never stayed shut and kept screwing with my air metering putting my car in limp mode. Also if you get an hks don't buy off eBay. I bought from 2 different retailers on there claiming to sell genuine hks products and both were very poorly made knockoffs, luckily I got my money back and went on amazon and found a retailer that shipped direct from Japan.

      CX racing's intercoolers are stout though, I've nailed parking blocks and even hit a coyote with my car and no cracks or boost leaks at all.

      Jason Addison I'm running a CX racing intercooler and piping kit currently, its been holding up great for over 5 years now. The bov was garbage and leaked boost like crazy, so I just turned the tension bolt tight so it'd never open, and I got a coupler with a flange for an hks and ran an hks ssqv4 and it holds solid. Currently running 22.5psi. Side note the hks didn't make enough noise for me so I've designed and made multiple inserts for it. Current one sounds like an eagle screech under vacuum and low boost shifts, and has a very loud high pitched whistle under higher boost shifts.

    • @sinformant
      @sinformant Před 6 lety +1

      Also I have curbed the intercooler a few times on parking blocks, and even hit a coyote while driving home at night and its still solid

    • @lorenhusky2717

      The problem with chinese ebay intercoolers isn't how long they last or their ability to hold boost. Their problem is that they aren't very good at cooling the air. Put a garret core and an ebay/china core next to each other and you'll see a massive amount of difference in the fin density. Those fins are there to disturb the air by creating turbulence and more surface area for the cooler outside air to contact. Air that's just passing directly thru the core is not doing anything to cool the intake charge. The ebay ones don't perform as well as a better designed core and it's been proven on the dyno. You will make more power with less knock on a better core, that's why they're more expensive. If you're on a budget I highly recommend treadstone intercoolers. They hit the right combination of good design and reasonable price.

      Yeah just grow a money tree in your backyard, wait 10 years, and suddenly you can buy Garrett all the time! 😂

    • @sinformant
      @sinformant Před 6 lety +1

      Loren Husky evidently you haven't used a CX racing intercooler. I can tell you my upper charge pipe gets hot enough to melt flesh sometimes and I can always grab the lower charge pipe coming from my intercooler to the throttle body and its very cool even on hot days. And my lower charge pipe runs up right behind my radiator fans. My only issue is how big my intercooler is that came with my kit, I'm pushing 22.5psi out of the stock turbo, capable of 28, and seems I have a tiny bit of lag over the stock cooler that was 1/4 the size. I'll eventually buy another intercooler from them that is a little shorter to the turbo doesn't have to fill as big of an intercooler before reaching pressure.

    cast iron manifold is more reliable than that RamHorn manifold that manifold is garbage can crack anytime lol low quality

    • @wideband
      @wideband  Před 6 lety +6

      Cast iron makes less power, equal length is always better. You also always want to maximize the radius of the bends in the manifold, tight turns on a log style manifold are trash.

    You must not know much about turbo manifolds if you'd take that cheap crap tubular manifold over a cast manifold that will last much much longer then that junk tubular.

    • @wideband
      @wideband  Před 5 lety

      I know plenty, I've worked on many turbocharged cars and have owned 3 of my own. The only time I would run cast is on a daily, and I don't put eBay stuff on my daily. Any car I put eBay stuff on just comes out on the weekends. So yes, for me, the tubular is the better choice.
