    When you first gave it a spin, I thought journal bearing right away. Not that I'd really complain with that. Quality journals do a great job. Very little friction once pressurized. The compressor wheel had a reference mark and on the nut was the ground-off bit from the balancing process. You'd have to line it all back up exactly the same as it was for this turbo to work now. But I'll bet if you did, this turbo would boost nicely and that ball bearing on the compressor side would be just enough to make it robust against surge. The cheap metallurgy that went into casting the turbine housing is the part I wouldn't trust.

    I've bought numerous too-cheap-to-be-good parts from eBay and usually found them to be pretty good. My favorite is probably the LED headlights I got for my old VW Bug. $80, were clearly knockoffs of $500 JW Speaker units. Avoided them for years, hoping to save up for name-brand, or even takeoffs from the late-model Jeep Wranglers, but finally looked into it a bit more, found a lot of Jeep blogs where people found they were pretty decent. Decided to give them a try, not a ton to loose. Found they work great - huge upgrade over stock sealed beams and they've worked great for well over a year now.

    Pretty much my Whole car is ebay parts, Turbo is a CXracing T04e , injectors are from an ebay store, intercooler and pipe is cxracing, clutch it XTD, waste gate and BOV are CHials from ebay. I've gon over some of the problems I've had with eBay stuff on my channel. Seems like it always comes down to 2 things, QC and lack of warranty, but as long as you go into it acknowledging that you're going to have to go through it and possibly fix it and that if it is DOA or it blows up later your on your own then it's ok to buy this stuff. My CHial BOV and waste gate were both DOA and had to be "fixed" before I could use them, didn't cost me anything but time to fix them though.

    • @numinous4789
      @numinous4789 Před 6 lety

      You play a risky game with EBay. And the no-warranty factor is huge for me, and not worth risking everything going well so that it's a non-issue. In the end, there's a reason it's an axiom: "You get what you pay for."

    • @Kj16V

      Stovall's Garage Chinese "eBay" fuel injectors are junk. Have come across these several times as a tuner (both sold legit and sold pretending to be genuine Bosch) and they have always caused problems. Their low duty cycle performance is terrible so they cause running problems at idle. Also, often their opening latency increases dramatically at fuel pressures above 4 bar, causing them to under-fuel.

    I hope @5:44 you were meaning to measure the Exducer of the compressor wheel. As you might already know, when a turbo manufacturer says they have a "76mm" turbo, they are usually referring to the Inducer of the compressor wheel, which is the diameter of the tips of the compressor wheel.

    If you send an ebay turbo off to be properly balanced they may actually last a long time. Many are not balanced and end up going though bearings and blow out oil seals in a few thousand miles. It will cost about $40-60 but will be worth it. Same goes anytime a turbo is dissembled, rebuilt or something like a compressor wheel replaced with a lighter billet piece.

    What size restrictor would you run on one of those hybrid turbos?

  • @blee2869
    @blee2869 Před 5 lety

    Great video! I didn’t know they made turbos like that! What good would that do anyway, need a restriction for the ballbearing but the other... I can see a disaster happening either way! Haven’t had any luck with turbos from eBay . Show up with shaft play . The last two companies tried saying that its normal... uhh wtf do take me for? Like to just get a factory turbo but new are really expensive and may as well get one from Garrett, the other option is a good used one... until you check the waste gate and it hangs up on the hole for the flap! So how do you get something reliable and stock for the car and not get ripped off? All these new cars with turbos n one day, cause the dealer won’t tell everybody that you have to cool down your shit after hauling stuff and the shaft/bearings coke up with that 10,000 mile oil change bs n the oil looks like it came out of a Diesel engine at 3,000! So this cheap China junk turbo crap needs to go ! The inferior metal they use is porous and after boosting up the toy to 18psi a dozen times the housing on the hot side cracks, blades start grinding, wastegate seat cracks and the retaining washer on the wastegate melts enough for the flap to fall off! Point is that even if the turbo looks good and measures out right on the inducers and exducers you still don’t know what kind of crap metal was used to make em! And it doesn’t stop with turbos, it’s everything anymore! Y’all know what I’m saying! And then the worst part is you spend a few weeks pay on a good turbo and the dam thing comes in a box that says MADE IN CHINA 😡🤬 Is there a way to tell if stuff you’re buying is made with quality materials? We all want to save money and get the stuff we want whether to play or get to work? Btw Autozone parts are from .... ! But when they fail you just got to go to the store and swap them out, cause they keep em in stock🙄 Since fricken when does Walmart sell turbos?!!! Sorry for the rant!

    Any good eBay injections? I have used plenty of parts from eBay. Control arms test pipes catback y pipe oil pan water pump. Belts fans. The fans worked fine, Y pipe fit fine and the exhaust fit fine. But all exhaust parts I have bought are meghan.the oil pan didn't fit at all. Was about an inch too small. The control arms that are emusa have been excellent for 3 years. Bought a set of mdu coilovers adjustables have been great for 2 years and going strong still. Water pump and timing belts have been excellent. Water pump brand was gmb and belt was gates(not sure it counts since it's all known quality) I have used blox products without any issue at all.
    My boost gauge is a no name cheap $8. It works kinda. I wouldn't recommend it at all. I bought my arp head studs and npr rings from eBay.

    I havent bought any performance parts for my car from ebay. I'm definitely on a budget and in my experience buying iffy budget parts ends up not being the cheap option in the long run.

    I built an entire 450bhp twin turbo vr6 setup with eBay parts (apart from the turbos which I got free from work). Still going strong 1.5 years later

    That turbo actually looks pretty nice, ive seen some crappy turbos off ebay xD ... on another note ... its like the same shit but if you have amazon prime there are tons of turbos on amazon that you can get free 2 day shipping on ... its pretty nice and prime stuff is backed by amazon so if need be returns should be easy :P ... great vid guys

    Removing the shaft nut for looking into the center section prevents the wheels from being perfectly realigned again for balancing purposes. I know you were returning this one so no foul but I don’t want others to do this just for fun/curiosity. While I have a real turbo I plan on trying an eBay turbo one day based on the success of others. My Intercooler could use and upgrade should it grenade anyway.

    I was wondering if that turbo would have worked on the Jeep build?

    That single bearing turbo is based on a Turbonetics design. It was used on a lot of there turbos.

    You can get those turbos for about 40 dollars if you check fb market
