I like your angle on guitar .... great for intermediates to help the “ light” come on ....👍🏻
Thanks!!
I used to think 80s rock was a rhythm guitar wasteland. Thank you for schooling me!
Happy to oblige!
Growing up in the 80’s I love Hair Metal… I never get tired of videos like this… so much fun!!!
They are fun to do!
I'm 17, I grew up with motley crue, van halen, thin lizzy, and ozzy
Once you get passed the hair, the looks, 80s metal guitarists seriously made some awesome music! They were so varied too. Priest, Maiden, Metal Church, Metallica they all had their own unique sound! Which is why it's such an epic era!
Couldn't agree more!
Although I agree with both halves of your statement, I would not call any of the bands you named Hair Metal.
The fashion was part of it.
FACTS
Nice lesson. I’m going through this whole 80s glam rock phase. Totally into the flashy guitar work. Really giving it the respect it deserves. Ratt and roll dude.
Thanks!
I’ve always had this phase for 4 years now and I’m 15
It's fun!!
I've had this same phase since the 80's...lol. still have all my 80's guitar mags full of songs and very similar lessons.
I have my collection of magazines away and really wish I didn't!
Great video man very universally useful stuff. Whenever I think 80’s rhythm Randy Rhodes “Crazy Train” is the first thing that pops into my head. Such a cool rhythm part.
Thanks!
A Sus thing ..... then to b Sus thing ...... and the slide back to a !!!!! Shwaaaaaaag !
That song Crazy Train originally started out from Randy and Greg Leon (Dokken/Dubrow) copping the riff from "Swingtown" by Steve Miller. Think about it, "Crazy, but that's how it goes" is that guitar riff. Little known rock trivia factoid. 🤘🏼
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic tips
I'll be digging in to these for sure.
Enjoy!
Great breakdowns. I grew up in this era and wasn't a big fan of hair metal or any of that. But here we are in 2023 and I'm digging it after picking up a guitar. Fun stuff. Great lesson. 🔥
Thanks!
I have this guitar they r awesome very hi quality plays like butter too
Dude that guitar sounds amazing. It the sound I was trying to get in the 80’s but never could fully achieve.
Thanks! Nowadays with things like the Axe FX and Kemper, so many sounds are readily available. It's really a good time.
Those hair bands of the 80s have some of the best guitar work you're ever guna hear.
Werd!
I have no proper lessons on these BUT IVE BEEN USING THESE TECHNIQUES TO PLAY
YOU HAVE GIVEN THE NAME TO THEM .
IM ACTUALLY GETTING SOMEWHERE 🥰🥰🥰
Well done!

Awesome we finally got recognition for rhythm only time we got recognized was the intros thanx for the vid awesome dude
Thank you!!
Great! I make 80'sish synth rock that has guitars in it, I'll be using some of these on my guitar lines! Thanks!
Glad to help!
Cool vid. Subbed!
Thanks!!
Good stuff
Thanks!
Very informative bro nice 👍
Thanks!!
Nice shirt, thanks for the tips.
For sure!
Good stuff, dude, I really like your videos. Gotta start working on that moving bassline thing, I always love that sound when it's like two guitars but only one guy playing.
Thanks! Yeah I enjoy that sound a ton too.
Gonna be studying this video
Cool! Happy to help!
Dude, I came here to learn more about dyads. Not only did I get some more info on those, but your Lynch riffing is exactly what I aspire to be studying the coming months. Is that riff you played from a specific song or something you made up? I listened to a lot of Dokken in my 26 years on this planet, but that riff is not springing to mind!
Oh cool thanks! No it was just inspired by his style. I genned that up for the lesson.
Awesome guitar and sound! Unlike EVERY bloody guitar player I've asked(being a drummer first then keys/ guitar) you are showing me what I lack. Do you have any vids for playing clean with distortion? my technique is awful I make string and rubbing noises sometimes...
Thanks! This two part lesson might be helpful for you: czcams.com/video/aFFzpLZgJYE/video.html
Awesome showcase of riffage!
Thanks!!
🔥video.. Just gained a sub
Thanks!!
Great video, could you recommend some guitarists or bands who focus more on using dyads, whether it's major and minor thirds or fourths and fifths? I'm trying to improve my playing in this area
Hmmm that's a good question! Most of it I picked up in the 80s with hair metal, but I can't think of any one band off the top of my head that I can recommend for it.
Great job!!! What amp are you using? Great tone.
Thanks! On this one I am using tones from the Axe FX 3 that I created for the Sustainiac guitar.
The 80s was the best
People still wanted to have fun!
Ps u have a good mancave vibe and fireplace ora, going on
I'm all about the man cave!
Good shit dude , I just started studying my man George Lynch
Nice! I have a whole video in him too.
Yeah I believe that this was the first video of yours that I have seen but I will check it out.
Oh my bad I have seen another video of yours lol
@@JesseLeeKing all good!
What was that song at 2:18?? Nice!
It just what I made up for that part of the lesson. It's very 80s metal inspired, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was something out there already that was very similar to it.
Haha. It was soooooooo good!!!! You are great brother!!
@@angelgonzalez79 thank you!!!!
Interesting. I've always wanted to learn the 80s chords of my heroes. I just don't know where to look.
Did you find ones here or are there still ones from some songs that you want to know?
Using the Fractal or Kemper here?
Ahhh sorry dude, even though I just posted it, I recorded it months ago and I didn't note on the tracks like I usually do. I *THINK* I used an Axe FX patch that I created for that guitar, but I can't be certain without the track note.
👍🏻subbed!
Excellent, thanks!
Thanks bro. I have always wanted to learn metal guitar but no one to teach me. Caught up on 30 years of curiosity. Lol.
Excellent!
Every time i read/watch about "hair metal" i often wonder if the lyrics are about barber shops/saloons/ hair care tips, and are they playing guitar with hair wigs as picks? 🤔🤣😂
Pete Townshend was the master of sus chords
I bet you get called Marky mark and the funky bunch alot
Indeed I do!
how do i make my guitar sound more 80s
Do you mean like effects and tone?
@@MusicWithMarky yeah lol
@@yngwiegames Well, the easiest route is to look at rigs players you like from that time used and then get that equipment. But in general, I can say that back then guys had much less mids in their tone than you hear today. So dial mids back. Also don't be shy about using delay and reverb. On clean sounds, a nice chorus is a very 80s thing to do too.
Lo E sonv

Arent those called triads not diads
Sorry, not sure which part of the video you are referring to. Dyads are two note chords and triads are three. Sometimes I'm referring to 3 and 4 note chords as dyads because I am fretting two note dyads and then throwing in open strings on top of it. So, I'm thinking of the dyad that I'm physically fretting and the open strings are tacked on.
@@MusicWithMarky i mean for example five on the d and 4 on the g 1st and 3rd note isn’t thus why they call it triad?A riff example is what you give is what you get by ratt
Thos are the first two notes of a G major triad. The full triad is g-b-d. If you play the only the g and b, then it's a dyad.

If someone is advanced enough to understand what you are talking about do they need guitar lessons 😝
There's always more to be learned and perspectives that open you to new ideas! :)
@@MusicWithMarky So true. Don’t mind me I’m just grumpy bc I suck at playing guitar 😂
Well then, feel better soon!
@@MusicWithMarky suck not sick 😊
Lol oops ... In that case, I wish much improvement soon!
You need to slow down you’re talking man I mean come on you’re not a teenager
I usually get the opposite comment.
