BLACK GIRL GETS LONG 4C HAIR BRAID IN KOREA | Fail or Success?

- BLACK GIRL GETS HAIR DONE IN KOREA again... but this time Braids lol
In this video, I, a black girl, get my hair braided at a local beauty shop in Korea. I am surprised at the hip length/ waist length natural hair and that I am getting my hair done in South Korea again lol. The Korean hairstylists' reaction to my hair was priceless! lol And she really took her time with my hair. It was a great experience
The inspiration for this video came from Chilo Talks who lives in Japan and MaryJane Byram who lived in China but is now a world traveler.
I haven't been to a salon in about 3 years due to some hair horror stories but I am excited to be doing this series where I get my hair done in Korea and try out different salons again, especially in a different country. Normally being black in Korea, or any country in Asia like China or Japan, finding a place to get natural hair done is like finding a needle in a haystack. Therefore, I decided to do an experiment! Especially since this salon is one of the best-reviewed salons in South Korea, so I am excited to see what they can do with my long natural 4c hair. The results were shocking and not the transformation I expected. I hope you watch and enjoy it until the end!
Sidenote: This hairstylist's salon is located in the center of Seoul which is a great location because if you were to visit it would be very accessible to go. Looking forward to seeing everyone's braids if you go tag me! :D

50 dollars with ALL your hair? That’s 50 dollars well spent. It’s SOOOO PRETTY she did a beautiful job.
LOL RIGHT?! I even asked her at one point are you sure? She said I charge everyone the same depending on the style and reassured me that my hair was best with this style anyway. Loved her energy 😂
Dammmm....fiddy dalla. Wow. Sus she deserved the biggest tip. She did an amazing job!
IKR, IT WOULDVE COSTED ABT 150 FOR ME TO GET THE SAME STYLE HERE IN CHICAGO☠️😭
And she was so niceeee like u can tell shes an all around people person w/ some bad ass skills.... 🥰🔥🔥
In Canada that would’ve been easily 100$ or more 🥹
when she brought out the rat tail comb, i knew she knew what she was doing lol
Right?! 😭😂😭 She did not come to play
Lol. Right 😂
Omg same, I was like 'Oh? Ohhhhhh...she knowsss'😆😆

This is cultural ✨
appreciation! she is educated on the styles and what to use. She did such a great job and was so gentle. I cant wait to see what she does to your hair next.
She is wearing AFRICAN breads herself so how is it culture appreciation?
@@pinkaesthetics665 And? She is not being disrespectful about wearing the braids. She clearly appreciates them because she is educated on the culture. Appropriation is about being disrespectful to the culture. How exactly has she been disrespectful? And no, simply wearing braids is not disrespectful.
@@pinkaesthetics665 Listen, if we can wear weave that’s made with other people’s hair then this lady can wear braids and beads. Let’s not be hypocritical now.
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 that’s two different things…

She's making money on black people like everyone does. Usually they selling us the products, now they doing the do too.

And when she laid that rat tail on her forehead 😭😍 immediately yes

Lol!!!!!
"People"(if you know you know🙄) really need to take notes from that lovely woman.
1. Shes educated on African culture and where the braids originated.
2.She knows the correct names of the braids and didn't change it (aka boxer braids, or "just hair")
4. Shes kind and sweet
3. She culturally appreciates instead of appropriating.😊

Such a feel good video, you speaking her language, and her knowing how to do your hair. Sharing our cultures is what makes this world beautiful.
Did anybody notice that the stylist had her own small box braids? She's amazing
She is certainly a great hair stylist! She makes the customer so comfortable that you feel at home. She has great communication skills which indulges the customer and that makes her great at her job!

and when she opened her shop in America she will never hire no black people....they are not are friends they say are skin is dark an ugly ....

Yes. I m sure when Asians travel to Africa they are trying to find an African ti do their hair
@@angelflorence thankyou for that information. I didn't know.
@@angelflorence I have an honest question... you say Asians and white ppl get their hair braided in Africa. I’ve never had braids in my hair... well maybe once when it was a trend way back with the butterfly clips when I was a child BUT is it cultural appropriation to do so? White ppl have locs and that seems to be okay. When does it become cultural appropriation?

when you love your job so much you end up giving people a spring in their step and the best service ever. may she live long
She did great! I feel like all hair professionals should train in all types of hair, especially with sooo many social media/ online courses you can take and or study. Its easier now to get training in all hair types as opposed to being limited and only skilled at doing straight hair.
This!
Wow. About the only thing left black people don't go to outsiders for. We buy all the hair products from them.
Erm when do they spend money in black owned business
@@sandybrown3879 well they would have to if they were going to provide hair care with more diversity. Where else would they be able to buy the best products to use ?

Wow, she did really good. First time seeing a Korean woman doing such a nice job doing braids wow. It looked really good.
Nice 🔥🔥It’s always amazing when we can respect and appreciate other peoples cultures. She speaks Korean and she braids African/black hair. This is what the world looks like when we have positive energy and vibrations towards each other no matter our differences.
I like the braider! I’ve noticed personally that people of other races CAN be really be really gentle with our hair. This is definition of cultural appreciation
fr it’s crazy! i had a korean lady do my hair (she absolutely loves doing black hair, she said i made her so happy by booking her chair) and it was so comfy i could have gone to sleep 😴
Blogs like yours are so helpful for people like me who are black and wanna travel the world. Thank you for this!
She did well. I am happy she is educated about black hair..
Thus is definitely appreciation of the culture the fact that she works on her techniques to perfection and outs in the work because and knows her facts about products I love it give her her flowers
I love how gentle she's with her hair! I'm not tender headed but I would still have to tell my people to be gentle!
Omg the braids turned out wonderful!!💗 & it was $50 with Free accessories !!! 👀 Now I'm wondering how much are box braids and other stuff she has ?
Because there's lots of different braiding places out there especially the African braiders that are a bit pricey. I used to go to Monic and she would be a bit pricey depending on the style of braids I want but she always left out baby hairs for her clients and put moose on afterwards sometimes it's more than one person working on your hair but you'll end up looking 💣!
I think Box braids can be around 80-200 but it depends on the size. I would highly recommend her if you're not trying to break the bank! I also looked into African braiders here but like you said some were way too expensive or other people said they braid too tight. I honestly would cry through the whole thing if that's the case 😂😂😂 But drop the details!! Is she in Itaewon?
The african braiders?🧐🧐
@@LeeK--W Yes they have lots of businesses out there.
@@KerrasJournal no she's in Pyeongtaek but she does travel to do hair as well I would have to ask.

She killed this look. $50.00 with hair and some accessories!! Wow!! Best of all was how you described her gentle hands and how you dont even have to scrunch up your neck. She knows her stuff. You look beautiful, keep having those beautiful hair days.
Wow, I never imagined a Korean hair stylist to be so well versed on black hair!!!!
I'm so impressed.. especially because Koreans are very homogeneous & close minded when it comes to different cultures!
I LOVE THIS LADY.. How sweet caring, accepting & cute 😍
How awesome to see this culture appreciation & exchange 💕
They are into business. They make money on blacks through groceries, hair products, nails, so why not braiding too.
They are closed in the sense that they would never pay a black for those services. They spend their money with their own
They're great with blow outs also. I don't really see how anyone looks at someone of a different culture and assume they wouldn't do a good job.
They give better services than anyone else's chair I have sat in.

I love that you were able to be comfortable while getting your hair done. When I used to get my hair braided my neck and back were hurting
Very cool!! This was so informative & awesome that you speak the language & she could do your hair!
A great stylist is not ranked by race but by their work. Just because, we're black and our stylist is black too doesn't make them an expert nor someone that cares. Braids are not just for our culture nor have they been mastered by just us. I am 26 years old, I was taught how to braid at 18 when I started working at my first hair salon. I was blessed to have the woman that was my beautician growing up become my teacher, a SAMOAN woman. Who is still hailed as one of Seattle's best and major hairstylist. This woman did a great job ❤❗❗❗

Great work! Love it! Keep up the amazing work! Awesome art!
Omg she did wonderful!! And her personality and professionalism was awesome too🤗
Such a sweet cultured lady. She did a great job!
She did a great job ! I would like to know how she became interested in learning how to do our hair? Maybe she has black people in her family? There must be a sizeable number of black people living there for her to earn a living doing these styles. I know there are Africans and people from the Caribbean Islands living there. But seriously this lady must have close ties to black people to choose this as a career path. I know she likely does other hairstyles besides braiding, but she did NOT become that skilled overnight. KUDOS to her for her loving spirit ! 🤗⚘🤗⚘🤗⚘
This is an amazing question! Honestly I had such a good time conversating with her and unfortunately I couldn't keep everything for the video. But from what I understand she told me how when black culture started gaining a wave in Korea she decided she wanted to know more beyond that so she would watch videos about black hair care and also go to black salons to see and learn how to do black. She then made really close friends with people in the African community here in Korea and they kinda embraced her with their cultures which explains why she's very knowledgeable. Honestly though, she's really a gem and this whole experience blew my expectations 1000% over especially since I had the opportunity to talk about how black hair is treated in America and she was very receptive.
@@KerrasJournal I live in So Calif, which has the largest Korean community in the Continental U.S (other than Hawaii). Years ago, I worked in what is now called Koreatown area. I can tell you that her very interest and commitment to have such a close relationship with black people is extremely rare. The younger Koreans are much more open minded about black people than the older generations. But still there is a long way to go. Here in the US you could scan the country from one coast to another and not find someone like her. I am African American and I don't even know how to cornrow my own natural hair, much less add extentions to it ! She is truly a precious gemstone ! ⚘❤⚘
