In this video, I share a vlog of my recent trip to the countryside of South Korea. Many tend to ask about my authentic experiences as a black person abroad, especially in Korea, and I think I captured a good chunk of what life looks like, especially in the countryside like Jeonju. One thing I have noticed, though, is that I feel that no matter where you travel to whether you are black in China, black in Japan, or black anywhere abroad in general, people are learning about you almost as much as you are learning about them. Is it going to be uncomfortable? certainly, and sometimes I feel that the learning process is learning to how to navigate and deal with these issues as you grow in your travel journey. It's all about taking that leap of faith and never letting anything get between you and those travel gains! Also, I must say Jeonju is a pretty large city with strong historical roots, but some still consider it the countryside. I truly loved the hanok inspired apartment here in Jeonju. This video was filmed back in May/June, so it was a lot hotter in Korea than it is now. This explains why I am wearing what I am, lol

I'm so envious you're so fluent in Korean meanwhile I continue to struggle with my classes.

I am struggling with my Korean studies. I am making progress though, and it has only been 3 weeks since i started learning and studying Korean. I understand certain phases, BUT trying to repeat that word is a tongue twister, since my mother tongue is in Enlish. It is hard to say Korean sounds in not enlish sounds. Learning Korean is not that hard, BUTTT when it comes down to the punctuation, Grammer, Batchim, or sentence structure!! It is very frustrating.
Also I quit studying I plan on trying again after I take my finals exams.
Thanks guys. My ultimate goal is to be able to travel to Korea by myself. So I think I really need to learn the language.
You won't become fluent unless you actually speak Korean with someone regularly.
I speak from experience: four years of studying - could nary form a full sentence.
Then a few months in Korea - and boom, words just start flowing out of you.
If you can't go to Korea, find an online tandem partner or go to your local Korea town and just talk to shop employees.

I love black women we always put our selfs out there and travel learn languages. Love this. I want to travel to Korean as well.
Girl, you have such positive energy. I guess it is pretty rude for them to stare at you like that on the street but in the meantime, those people don't get to see foreigners that often so couldn't help but look. I remember as an east Asian, when I went to a grocery store in a rural area in GA, literally everyone was staring or looking back at me. This just reminded me of how uncomfortable I felt. It just happens everywhere.

I served in the military and was stationed in Korea and Japan for four years. Very few black women were seen back then Stay safe and enjoy the people and the country.

I went to Sth Korea when there was no tourism and I stayed in a small town. I am white and had long blonde hair and the looks I got were amazing, but I was fine with it. But the people then were so loving and caring I enjoyed myself immensely.

As me being intrested into korean culture and I'm good enught to talk in english and lately trying to get know better other lang as a Korean lang it crossed my mind alot kinda as a "Can I go country side if I know a bit of some lang, could be good experience, good or bad It migigt depends", but as Im rn not even traveling and Im talkive person in english it may not happen at all, well few months wont get me into fluent Korean speaker but its a lang what im intrested about.
