Ford fanboy here that even overlooks Fords downfalls because I am loyal to them for some reason I can’t even explain but for all those worrying about this new Tundra, Toyota will get these things fixed! It’s just what they do! The turbos in it will still be more reliable then my ecoboost and I know that! Great content all the time Jon! Long time subscriber.

The thing is that people buy Tundras for reliability first and foremost. They had 15 years to put together something good and reliable and they didn't. If they fix all those issues only time will tell. For now it's just a guess. Coming from me that I own 2 Tundras and love Toyota.

Man, I tried Ford one time a few years ago with an F-150 ecoboost and it started billowing white smoke out of the tail pipe and a metal on metal sound in the engine when accelerating. And it only had 20k miles on it. I punted that sucker and went back to Toyota.

It’s def not a perfect truck and things they could’ve done better but overall I love it. Seeing the new tundra with bigger tires and lifts and modded up they look absolutely amazinggggggg and imo the best looking truck on the road with a few simple mods compared to other trucks with the same mods.

If there's one universal complaint about this model, it's that stupid chrome surround.

All of the little quirks is part of buying the first run of a new gen but I wouldn't call yourself picky. I would 100% take it into the dealer for those trim fixes. I remember back in the early 2000's when I worked at a couple Toyota dealerships they had foam trim fix kits that were for interior squeaks and rattles so they should be able to fix the door card no problem. The center console lid might be a little different but get it noted as a complaint in the system. A update might come out quicker the more people complain about them.

I ordered a 2023 to Toyota Tundra dark blue pick it up on NOV 18/22 ..Its a BEAUTIFUL truck very comfortable seat and nice interior.. I've been doing mechanical work for 40 years and had trucks sense 1978 . I also exchanged tires for BF GOODRICH KO2. The truck rides like a Lincoln and handle nice. The first thing i do is listen for noise from the Drive Line to Panels then drove to a gravel road and engage my 4x4 about 5 times. I engage my 4x4 at a FULL STOP most of the time or at 3 to 5 mph and everything work GREAT. .I put 600 miles on the truck so far...3 days ago we had some snow so i decided to engage 4x4 and it made a loud clunk it did this 2 times .. YESTERDAY I went to the dealer to have it check they told me that the TRANSFER CASE needed to be replaced... I THOUGHT HE WAS KIDDING he had to tell me 3 times before it SANK in ..I can feel my stomach turn over and said that i NEVER in 40 years had TRANSFER CASE ISSUES and I didn't even make my first payment yet ...They told me it may take 4 or more weeks to replace it ...I TOLD THEM THAT'S IT FOR HUNTING NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. We are getting snow now and you need a 4x4 working ....CEO ; AKIO TOYODA..Must resolve the issues with these NEW TUNDRA Truck or you will DESTROY TOYOTA reputation ..

I HAD a 22 Limited, and just sold it to be honest. My truck had all the same issues you mentioned, and agree the engine/trans is nice, but i had a few more issues. Engine idle at a stop light went up and down, the key fob signal was rubbish, never got better than 17 avg, and i usually get better than most in my cars. All 4 fender flares had what appeared to be door dings in them from how they are attached to truck, weatherstripping at back windows popping up, and my drivers side bed top was coming off the truck slowly. My interior temp always seemed off by several degrees. If sitting in back seat my head nearly touches the roof, and I’m not that tall…. Again I did like the engine/trans performance, and the truck handled corners better than any truck ive ever driven, but for me the negatives listed above made me too nervous to keep this truck without a warranty in the future. I do believe in 3 years this will be a great truck, but its just not right now. I expect first year hiccups, but this seems a bit extreme. Some people complain about the infotainment system, but i honestly had no issues with that. I did not hate the truck, and would still be driving it if i would have had to take a loss selling, but with the way the world is i sold for a great price, and will find something different for a couple years, and them most likely buy another tundra with bugs worked out. There are good things about this truck. Just needs a-lot of polishing in my opinion.

When you hear about little things here and there that aren’t the best built quality, 4runner owners really appreciate that our trucks are made in Japan since they seem to have better build quality and quality control compared to American built facilities. I’ve never really heard any big complaints or serious quality problems with the 4Runner interior or anything honestly. Of course every car or truck will have one bad lemon out there somewhere but overall with how many 4Runners have been sold and driven into the ground, they are just exceptional built vehicles and trdjon also is coming from the 4Runner being his main baby and it’s hard to compare and live up to that 4Runner standard.

I disagree STRONGLY about the center console. Its a much better change. Both driver and passenger have armrests, and you have access without having to open it up all the way. Mine doesn't squeek at all. It's a great improvement. However, I agree about the no step to the bed. Very odd thing for Toyota to leave out. Overall, it's a great truck, and still miles better than any turd Dodge, Ford, and GM are cranking out.

I purchased a 2022 Tundra Double Cab TRD Off-Road in Lunar Rock about 3 weeks ago. Funny thing is: I went online in November 2021, built the exact truck I wanted, and summited the build for purchase. I got a call from my local dealer, and the next day they had an allocation for the EXACT truck I speced online. Is this a coincidence? Maybe, but the options I chose were not that common (in my opinion). Also sold it to me for MSRP (but low balled my pristine 2016 gen2 trade in, which they sold within 24 hours) Anyway, so far, excellent truck, and an upgrade from my old 2016 Double Cab, especially in the interior. The only two cons that I have thus far: The 2022 Double Cab rear seat is not as usable as the gen2, and, had I known this, would have got the Crewmax. I like to keep a tool bag on the floor between the front and rear seats, which the gen2 Double Cab allowed. This is not possible in the 2022 Double Cab. Second, is the chrome grill surround and rear bumper caps. I wish you could option the TRD sport exterior styling in the TRD Off-Road trim. That being said, I'm getting the chrome "moustache" and rear bumper caps wrapped/painted body color. Not sure if I should go paint or vinyl? Id be interested in your thoughts on this and price differences between the two, as I assume this will be an common exterior upgrade (especially for younger buyers).

All good and absolutely reasonable comments. From the majority of the reviews I've seen, it sounds like Toyota has work to do. To me, the rear bumper design is an egregious blunder. I just don't understand how Toyota missed that. Aftermarket step - sure, but there should be a smoother more integrated factory solution. I thought I would like them more once I saw a few in person, but that hasn't been the case so far. I think with the right package - like a TRD Pro setup, with a 3" lift and a meaty tire/wheel combo, the various grills and fenders would come into proportion. It's like how wimpy stock Wranglers look.
I really figured that Toyota would knock it out of the park given all the years they had to design the new platform. I'm sure they will upgrade the truck in many areas, but in the meantime they have lost customers, or failed to gain new customers eager for something different than the Big 3. That said, I get the impression that they are selling well.
I was able to get my new '19 1794 Tundra in June or July of '20 for $49k with front windows tinted, the full 3M chip preventers, TRD Pro dual exhaust, Line-X bedliner AND drop-in mat, were all included. All I needed to add to make it mine was black TRD style wheels, bigger m/t tires, 2" lift on front (leveling kit), side steps, and a drop-in organizer tray for the console that fits so perfect and looks so stock, I can't believe they didn't include it stock.
Seems like the new Tundras are very good trucks, but need some work to become great trucks.
