    Morning David from Delaware USA.
    Interesting video. I quickly the two Japanese pressings of That's the Way it is. I have a earlier laminate copy and a 77 copy. I had never noticed the darker colors on the 77 issue.
    Take care, Juan

    a keen eye 😄 i quite like the covers of the RCA reissues, they seem to be more have raised the contrast on the colours notable in the early 60s covers like such a night and gi blues. great video thank you

      Yes, definitely. You can see that difference in contrast on numerous later Victor reprints. Cheers, Robin.

    Great attention to detail David. Very enjoyable video as usual. Love the funny ending 😂

    Hi David as an example the second American pressings of "That's The Way It Is" is also suffers the same dark contrast lack of detail as the 1st pressing. It seems all the LP slicks have that same degradation with the reissues. These were not stored digitally and had to be rescanned from the original slicks as later pressing were needed. I don't believe this loss of quality resolution has anything to do with the errors that are on those covers. I think these were just some that slipped quality control and wasn't deemed enough to recall them, and once the rescannes from the originals were done printing, the originals were discarded and replaced with these new slicks that would now have newer #s and logos. None of the US copies I have still have the quality and detail as originals, although I haven't found any blemishes that are of equal to what you have shown, but I'm still looking. That "Blue Hawaii" crease appears to have been a paper jam from when the slick was copied.

      Interesting. All makes sense. Another interesting one is the first Japanese RCA World's Fair sleeve. If you look closely, you can see where they've attempted to airbrush the old Victor logo out.

    Hi Dave ,interesting video ,the Japanese covers are amongst the best in the world for me a can forgive some imperfections when being pressed ,the spot on loving yous a bit weird,it’s always amazed me how different pressing of the same album can have really noticeable different colour tones ,you may have noticed some of the new vinyl albums ,mainly coloured vinyl pressings how out of focus or blurry the cover image is compared to the original or 60s and 70s represses ,a wonder if any dirt or dust gets trapped behind the lamination process if it’s a laminated cover ,interesting video that Dave al keep a sharp lookout now on me recorded,take care ,tony 🎸🎶

      Hi, Tony. New releases are a mixed bunch, I find. Some of the new covers are really good while others are a bit blurry. Totally new albums, such as FTD titles, tend to have really clear images, from what I've seen. It's all part of the fun of collecting Elvis. Cheers, Tony.

      Or maybe just the first and last editions. That should reveal some differences, even if just in the intensity of the colours.

    So this is me dropping one 😂 fascinating stuff, thanks for sharing David, love your attention to detail! On the subject of degrading cover artwork, the black and silver label 80s German repress of TTWII is really murky, there's pretty much nothing visible in the background at all. BTW, I've discovered your eBay account, so at some point when my finances have had chance to recover a bit, I may very well be placing an order 😉

    Interesting. I've noticed too variations in covers. Notably how colours change too. Had a freind who had Viva Las Vegas UK EP, in bad condition, with a very greenish background, it looked great. In the cases you point out it seems more like carelessness not to brush out blemishes and marks.

  • @tcbsince73
    @tcbsince73 Před měsícem +1

    Copying a copy will degrade the image. The very black one looks as if the contrast was messed with, maybe to hide the blemishes.

  • @pcalcas
    @pcalcas Před měsícem

    Oh I love this subject! 🤓 Always get a bit bothered when I see picture in covers gets somehow degraded (in color reproduction, contrast messing or resizing) in reissues or later versions. On TTWII in particular I get even more bothered because the increase of high contrast use kills the details in b&w portrait...
    Of course many times later versions shows an improvement effort in this area too. I happen to be graphic designer and those little things catch my eye, cannot help it 😅
    Thanks to you now I know tad more about my TTWII japanese copy. Cause I know mine is the 71 reissue of first edition (also 71 and gold coloured Obi), but it seems that there were 2 reissues in 71 (don’t have the Obi but it is the エルヴィス・オン・ステージ)... and always doubted which one because on Discogs they don’t say anything about the cover being laminated or not in the one I think is mine (the runouts info in this is also missing). So thank you!!! mine is a not laminated hard cardboard and has the 和 kanji in bottom right of back cover. Now I know which one it is 😊 and yes, it doesn’t have those black marks in his glorious legs 😂
    I even stayed for the japanese part of the video, such an effort doing bilingual content 🙌🏼
    So thank you very much again! very interesting content! ⚡️
    Regards from 西

      Ah, so you've got eagle eyes too. I guess you'd need them in your line of work. Yes, you're right about some later covers being as good as the originals. It might be worth digging out a few for a future video.
      TTWII was pressed a few times in Japan in '71 - four obi designs, laminated or unlaminated sleeves, with or without the 和 symbol. It was a massive hit, staying at number 1 for 16 weeks. And there was a quad version.
      The bilingual videos are tough. Two lots of filming. Two lots of subtitles to edit. I can only do it occasionally, unfortunately.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@ElvisPresleyInJapan 16 weeks!Wow... I didn't know that. I see, in Discogs (where I usually look for info of albums) they only listed the first release and two reissues from 71 so I thought mine could only be one of those. Thank you for the information 😊
      Much respect with the double videos! I'm sure your viewers appreciate all your efforts 💪🏻 がんばってね!

    Graphic design in the old days was cut and paste. Maybe left a human finger print oil stain. Or used an airbrush to cover the issue. But TTWII cover the original and then later versions hand coloured to black only.

    Hi David
    This is very interesting. My King Creole album has also a spot similar like on the Loving You cover. I don't know how how it's got there but I can't remove it because it's full laminated cover. Are there more King Creole copies like mine?
    Cheers and greetings from Holland.
