  • In the last of three Elvis "Grail" item videos, we look at a very rare variant of a live album, a hard-to-find overseas copy of a popular soundtrack album and a very early CD box set.

I like the label on the In Concert. The light is better in that room and a "more-Japanese" background is fitting. You could appear dressed as the Shogun next 😄

Hi, Ellie. To me, those old Japanese rooms look best uncluttered. They do, however, have a rail along one wall where you can hang frames. Next time, I might switch angles and hang a poster or something behind me. 😅 Thanks for watching!

    Hi David
The room is nice but the light from your video is much better! I“ve searched the bootleg book for some years and could finally a beautiful copy for a payable price. Also a good copy of the debut album from 1956 and the Japanese LP-Box Set „The single collection“ from the late 80‘s. But the hardest to find pieces ever was some FTD books as „Summer of 61“, „Madison Square Garden“ or „Fashion For A King“…. Great videos you made! Have a beautiful Sunday and until the next time! 😊👍🏼

Hi Dave ,great video some great items there ,av a copy of the legend CDs the box I have is a bit more rubbed on the edges than the one you showed ,but it’s intact n the CDs and cases are in good order ,yours having the OBI is really nice,I’ve just acquired a copy of the album RCA done when opening the Washington plant,Tyne and wear in 1970 ,the various artists album with one EL track ,it was given to the staff at the opening ceremony,it’s rumoured 200 copies were pressed av been after a copy for years and finally managed to get one ,a had to pay £100 for it which a thought was pricy but a wanted it bad ,love the room ,very Japanese ,do Japanese houses differ much from the UK av often wondered ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎼🎹🎸🎶

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan  Před 2 měsíci

Hi, Tony. I've never seen that Washington album. I know it's very rare, though. Nice find.
Older Japanese homes are noticeably different to western ones, as they usually have at least one room with rectangular straw mats on the floor as well as the sliding doors with wood and paper. Modern homes are much more like western homes, though, although usually smaller. Almost all houses are detached. There are almost no semis and no terraced houses here. Most homes don't have central heating either, unless you go up to Hokkaido. There's no need for it. An aircon will do. One interesting difference is you can't buy a house, unless you have a parking space. No parking on the street here. The roads are just too narrow.
      Cheers, Tony.

😅 Others have said it reminds them of movies and such. When I see rooms like that on screen, I think of the smell. They have a certain smell that comes from the straw mats on the floor. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice smell, but very distinctive.

@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Yes, the cover is not a gatefold, the back cover has same photo in black & white, the front cover photo is the same but the quality almost makes it look like colorized black & white. Very nice 部屋👌🏻 love traditional interiors. And congrats on your grials! Looking great the EIC 😍 and very interesting items the other two (wow at the date and original price of the CD comp!) Time to enjoy them 😊
I love to have some old records of the time when the album was released (some LP and singles) They were not expensive and are not the most valuable things that I have but I get a thrill just holding, cleaning and spinning them! They have me thinking on the fan that maybe bought it and was happy listening and dancing, on Elvis being then and there too...
Today for example, I got an 57 US Jailhouse Rock 7" single and I was in awe at how strong it rocked, sound sooo good! I was beaming and got me moving. Have Jailhouse rock in 58 UK EP, in modern LP, compilations...,but this is how it was meant to sound, I think. Luv it ❤
And with it came a geek surprise also... searching for the pressing info on the runouts in this one I got to know something curious that I didn't before...it has an anvil symbol. I learned that is a Scranton pressing identification. Scranton, PA, was a pressing plant for Capitol Records and they used this symbol from 1949 to 63 although they operated until 73 (with another symbol). They went on a strike in 59 so Capitol pressed records using other companies (like RCA) plants in that period.
But this is the other way around, this Elvis 45 is a RCA Victor's pressed in Capitol's Scranton plant in 57... and I don't know why. And it appears that US 57 pressings of that 7" single were Rockaway, Indianapolis, Scranton and Hollywood. Maybe RCA needed a hand in order to cover the high demand? Is it an indicative of the huge hit this record was?
Sorry the long comment 😅 and many thanks for the video ⚡

If you like old records with a history, you'll enjoy the Cheap Beat-Up Elvis Vinyl channel. He collects well-loved records and has a great sense of humour.
Your copy of Jailhouse Rock, I would guess, was a consignment pressing that was done to, as you suggest, keep up with demand. I don't think I've ever seen any such pressings from the US.
If you ever come across an early British pressing of Elvis' Golden Records (RB-16069, any version), you might like that - it really rocks. Great version of that album with some different songs to the US version too. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the recomendation on the CZcams Channel 😊 I will check it out!
I'm with you on the consignment pressing for the Jailhouse rock 45. I'm curious about those things, that little square symbol on the runouts made me learn lil' history and more on pressing vinyls stuff, as I'm no expert.
And appreciate very much your tip on the early UK of Golden Records! Well, now I'm going to look out for that 🤓
      Thank you very much!⚡

For a long time I was trying to complete the Canadian gold vinyl set of Elvis’ Golden Records. I bought volume 3 in Wales in 1981, volume 1 in Budapest in 2003, volume 4 in Paris in 2006.. and finally, volume 2 in Wouw, Netherlands, in 2022. That was a long journey and a long wait! I perhaps wouldn’t say it’s a holy grail item, but I was pretty pleased to get the red vinyl Valentine Gift for You, recently. It’s another example of an 80s album which sounds good, but I really wanted it because my friend had it when we were in our late teens. He was already working, so he could afford more records than me. I didn’t so much envy it then, (there seemed to be a new compilation every week in those days) but I’ve grown more interested in the 80s Albums and pressings over the years and get every one I can. Thankfully they are usually priced from 7 to 15 euros. Valentine Gift was a bit more, at 20 euro.
