  • Only a couple of dozen or so singles from the '50s and '60s were still on catalog when Elvis' Japanese releases switched from Victor to RCA. Here we take a look at those records, many of which are now hard to find.

Certainly is. I have to set myself limits. I buy releases from certain countries but not others and try to stick to lifetime releases.

Very interesting topic. I love to see the different versions because I like a lot the japanese 45’s. I like the designs, the way they were presented with the sleeves, the inserts (with the double sheets or just one)... the sleeves always catching my attention. And I never thought about this, the issued in Victor and their reissues in RCA... so I learnt something. I’m always learning 🤓
Great stuff, thank you for the video!👌🏼 Take care ⚡️

The good thing about the inserts is, in theory, they don't get battered about each time you play the record. However, the paper used for the early ones was very thin and so creased easily. The later textured paper was much better.
Yes, the history of the Victor company in Japan is quite long but when they renegotiated terms in 1968 with RCA Victor in the US, it was decided Japanese records would henceforth appear on the orange RCA label. Note that it was just RCA, not RCA Victor. Thanks for watching.

@@ElvisPresleyInJapan thank you for sharing all that knowledge! appreciate it 🤝 Personally, I like black labels the most. In US pressings too, with RCA Victor and the doggo...I supose that means I like better the old designs 🖤 Cheers!

Hi Dave ,nice video that ,a love those tri centre Japanese singles ,a prefer those to the jukebox centres as I call them with no middle ,don’t know if the Japanese would call them a jukebox centre it’s just a term I’ve used over the years ref the US singles as well ,av not actually seen a Japanese promo single ad love to get one ,am guessing there harder to locate than the promo albums ,a picked up a copy recently of the UK single heartbreak hotel / all shook up ,black label early 60s RCA victor pressing ,av a few of those am looking to get them all if I can ,those are difficult to find ,what about Japanese EPs Dave have you a wants list or is ya collection complete ,some o those sleeves are beautiful ,a like the French EP sleeves as well ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎸🎶💃👍

Hi, Tony. In Japan, the singles with large holes are called "doughnut records"". Japanese promo singles from the '70s are not that hard to find although, obviously, they're rare compared to the orange label versions.
I like to collect the later RCA Victor black label UK 45s and I've got a few. There are a few Japanese EPs I'm missing but nothing I'm in a hurry to get. Cheers, Tony.

I find these videos fascinating David, cheers. Trivia question: those reissues on RCA, are they the same stampers (matrix#) as the original on Victor or did they recut? Ta 🤗
