Hi David what cool video my friend look forword more cool things you do on Elvis what ever you do have cool time take care
Hi, Nigel. Glad you liked the video. Thanks.
can not wait the next video David my friend
Now there's something I've never heard of before. What a great, strange item. It amazes me how many different size/speed formats the record labels tried out over the years. A real unique take on Heartbreak Hotel as well!
Yes, I was looking through an old Victor Records catalogue a long while ago and noticed that they'd started making these 5" singles in late '56. Then when I saw that HH was one of them, I just had to track it down, no matter who was performing it. And I was very pleasantly surprised when I heard it. So glad to have it.
Great version and a beautiful item to have! Thanks for showing and playing it 👌🏼
On a side note...I’m flipping out with that “エルビスビール” on your T-shirt 😂❤
I was hoping someone would comment on the T-shirt. Next time I'm wearing it on camera, I'll show the bottom half.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan yes please, I'd like to see the bottom half of that T-shirt 😁 I noticed too that the name is spelled differently than in records (エルヴィス) would it be about accents? I mean, american vs UK or maybe just being more simple 🤔 I don't know. Thank you for your answer and your videos, take care!⚡
@@pcalcas They use ビ for what would be "bi" in English, whereas they use ヴィ for what would be "vi". Because there is no V sound in Japanese, they used to use ビ for both cases, so there are instances of Elvis' name being written as エルビス but usually you don't see it written that way now. The reason it's written that way on the T-shirt is because the design is a parody of the Japanese beer, エビス
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan Very interesting, about being a parody of the beer 🤭
I knew about the sound 'bi' and 'vi' in katakana, so I thought ウィ form was the original or prefered thinking they would be more 'true' to his name (kind of being considérate to him) ... I didn't thought they would use the more japanese form but of course it makes sense! 😁 Thank you ✌🏻🤓
Hey David how are you my dear friend ? this is very interesting, never heard or saw this very unique record, really love this Jazz version, glad you got this rare item :) Cheers, your friend: Lior
Hey, Lior. Yes, all good, thanks. I hope you're well. I don't think many people in Japan know this version either, or the group for that matter. Cheers!
Stripper jazz, love it! I've always loved vibes it's got shades of Arthur Lyman
I'll take your word for it. The only other vibraphonist I know is Milt Jackson. Thanks for watching!
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan check out his album 'taboo' there's nothing quite like it....
Hi 👋 Thank you for this video. I love jazz. So this is wonderful. I like Heartbreak Hotel . It's such a cool song.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Very cool items.
Thanks for sharing David.
Most welcome. Thanks for watching.
Pure jazz. Love it! Ann-margret does a very bluesy version of H H on one of her early albums. I have Stan Freberg 's version of it on an album of his greatest hits..
Never heard Ann-margret's version. I'll have to check that out. Thanks!
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan It is on her second album "On The Way Up" on RCA Victor. Cat. No.LPM/LSP 2453.
Hi Dave ,love this, other than EL am a great admirer of combo,s like this ,really nice version and a lovely item to have ,it looks in amazing condition ,av not seen one of these discs before ,lovely to have in ya collection, heartbreak hotel has always been a bit underrated for me ,it’s overlooked a lot o the time but when released in 56 it was so different to what was in the charts ,av never considered it to be rock n roll ,it’s blues all the way ,the guy losing his baby in all that ,always loved scotty moore and Floyd Cramer,s piece,s in the middle ,a love the echo on it as well,a picked up a demo last week Dave ,green label single ,teddy bear ,single sided ,a had to dig deep to buy it ,it was in lovely condition a wanted it bad so a thought get it a may not get another chance ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎸🎸🎸🎶💃
Hi, Tony. Yes, you've got to love a little jazz combo. The fewer members the better, I think, but the vibraphone gives it a unique twist here.
Well done on finding that Teddy Bear demo. The first record I ever bought by mail order was a UK demo. That's a story I might tell on the channel one day.
I think you have a point about HH. You don't hear fans talking about it much but it's so important, historically, and Elvis himself must have loved it as he performed it regularly in the '70s and he never sped it up, either. Cheers, Tony.
I agree with your comments about Heartbreak Hotel ; I have always considered it as Blues, not Rock'n'roll.
Wow: what I can I say just you and a handful of people probably have this record. It's sounds great and is in amazing shape very cool thanks for sharing.
Hi, Kerry. Yes, it's not a record you see very often, even in Japan. Thanks for watching.
Hi David, I really love your unusual Heartbreak Hotel single- what a find. And yes, it does sound distorted towards the inside. The inner groove more resembles an LP than a 45. This would be a good time to use the audio technica mono pick up. The difference in playing old and used records is night and day compared to an Ortofon pick up. I think we discussed sometime back that you already have the mono pick up? 🤔
Hi David Thanks for uploading that great record. I don't think it's as much IGD as the record just having wear, which I'm sure someone have in the 50's was playing that with around 8 grams of tracking force on their old player. That Ortofon Pro S isn't helping much as it's an very intermediate level cart. There's a very high quality Japanese company "Sumiko" that has some extremely well crafted cartridges very reasonable depending on how far you want to go. Their lower end "Pearl" is up there in sound and quality with others that are 5 times the price. Japanese craftsmanship has always been top notch since I grew up in the 70's, and they are a leader in quality to this day. I love anything "made in Japan" period.
I thought it must be IGD because, to my ears, it sounds worst near the middle. Thanks for the tips, though. I'll definitely look into Sumiko. If I can improve the sound of the record, I'll record it directly onto my hard drive and upload it separately. Thanks for watching.
what a unique piece. thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
Listening to that made me feel a little bit drunk! Cheers!
😄 That'll be the vibraphone.
Thanks David I liked this version also TCB ❤.
Glad you enjoyed it.
wow... amazing video... this single looks like the same size as a CD.... but probably a little larger,...
That's a great point. You're right. It is the same size as a CD. Wish I'd thought to show that in the video.
Sounds great! I love instrumental versions.
I just got an album full of instrumental Elvis songs recently in a set of albums I bought. I may try to upload one or two.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan That would be great!
@@ElvisPresleyInJapanThere are some great instrumental tribute to Elvis albums. Among my collection are Scotty Moore, The Castaway Strings, and The Hollyridge Strings.
@@Patracat I love Scotty Moore's album. And, in fact, the instrumental album I just got is none other than The Hollyridge Strings!😄
That's different my friend and sounds great to.
Hey, Curtis. I hope you're doing well.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan yeah i am my friend
Love it Elvis would have made this a Hugh hit jazzy his voice man he could sing anything.
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
If it's not possible to adjust the cartridge enough; change to a conical stylus. The distorsion is because the stylus is eliptical.
Thanks for the tip!
That's amazing - indeed sounds like a jazz track. If it was a song that was obscure, it could have become a jazz standard. Yeah, groove distortion is awful, possibly started its life played on a poor early turntable. Great version though !!
Interesting thought. Yes, you could be right about the TT it was played on. I've had a couple of tips. Actually, I should have spun it on my Denon TT. It's got a mono cartridge on it.
I think it's safe to say that you are probably the only person to have this record, out of all of us collectors on utube, I've never even seen one before, love it.
Luv the show.
Possibly. I've seen one other copy for sale in Japan once before, but it didn't come with the insert. Got lucky with this one.
Not bad at all.
I love it. Thanks for watching!
That's a much slower version of the song. It's like listening to Jazz ,😉
It still has a bluesy feel to it as well, I think.
