These cards were a beast. Nvidia put them out with 512bit memory bus
i had two gtx285 in sli and back when they came out and i absolutely enjoyed them.

Had 2 of these in SLI eventually. Do recall that black screen audio loop crash… thought it was just Bad Company 2 but seems it was a GPU thing
Windows boots at 1.8gb VRAM consumption in 2024 and bloats up to near 4gb after enough usage
I had an XFX 4890 XT around that time. Was also rocking a Samsung Sync master 16:10 monitor with 1050p resolution. Was a pretty neat system to play Mass Effect and those other Xbox 360-era games on.

Incredible how modern integrated graphics are faster than this, and vega 11 a smidgen slower.
GTA 4 performs worse because of the directx it uses, if you look for DXVK I doubt the 280 can run vulkan but DXVK makes GTA 4 run like 80-120 fps better.

makes sense 40 fps with 8fps 1% low is not the same as 40 fps with 28 fps 1% low. 1% low indicates how the game will "feel", 1% high indicated how many frames you can max count/see.
GTA4 needs DXVK to run normally :P
