The key is to invest in player A then pump him on your CZcams channel as you’re simultaneously selling his cards off

Really liked the content today. Of all the sports I follow Basketball the least but love the game as an investment. Having little knowledge of the players makes it harder to make informed decisions but this was really helpful.

Dude! This video is amazing. Honestly, the hobby is extremely confusing to brand new hobbists with the crazy amount of sets that come out every year. I can easily see this disuade people from even beginning but guys like you are a godsend for great information!
This is an older video before the Nikola Jokic show. Definitely a modern player to invest into. He’s putting up numbers the game has never seen before. With longevity he could easily become the greatest center of all time. It’s just crazy to see someone put up 34 points 21 rebounds and 14 assists in the conference finals

I finally pulled my first gold card only about a week ago. It was a 2020-21 Donruss Optic T-Minus Gold Prizm James Harden 6/10. Not the greatest but golds gold 😁

Thanx Geoff. Great info as usual. Do you have any concerns about what Fanatics [aka Topps aka (future) Panini] will do with Luber's talks on supply/demand with respect to the price of product? What I'm alluding to? Will buying most popular products become a "rich kid's" endeavor? We already have 100 buck packs and more. Where does it end? I have some concerns.

Personally I like the 2020-21 Donruss Optic T-Minus Prizm. May be a little bias since I pulled a neon green #/149 lebron James one.

Prizm isn’t equivalent to Topps Chrome. That would be optic since there’s a paper version and Donruss was always a cheap large set to build, like Topps.

Geoff do you think we’ll ever see any new Jordan printed cards
Should be noted that more sticker autos and more memorabilia not directly linked to players are being seen more because of COVID. Typical sets that were on card before are sticker this year. And I say as long as the card is still low numbered AND auto(sticker or not) it is still rarer than a parallel that is just printed. Mems are handled by hand. Has its own appeal.

I used to collect basketball cards in the 90s and it was easier because we just had a Beckett that would show you the value of the card.
I want to get back into the card collecting hobby but it seems much more confusing now
Great video, keep up the good work! While there is a lot of talks about the supply of the current superstars, why no one has talked about the fact that Jordan NBA cards have not been produced since 2009-10 and also no Kobe cards since 2019-20, and how it can lead to lower supply than demand for these players if nothing changes. Would be interesting to hear your take on it, could be even a separate episode topic?
My son and I have started collecting, so we’ve been getting Donruss normal cards, they are cheap enough to start out, but should we be looking at going into Prizm? Seems like collecting the Donruss paper isn’t mentioned a lot here.
Hey I found a whole collection of randoms from donruss diamond kings too fleer upperdeck even kmart superstars , mostly years from 85 - 96 , would a ton Harper clipper or Hakeem w the Goggles , should I just hold on to them , even about 4 Nolan ryans

I just pulled a gold Trae young out of select retail was numbered 6/10 I had no idea true gold could be found in retail ! Was so suprised it graded 9.5 sgc :)

Question for you. I’m just a teenager and don’t have a way to make enough money to invest in anything but base of good sets or decent parallels from bad sets. How can I make smart investments on a super small budget?
Don’t buy packs, it’s a lot more fun but save up for individual players you want to collect. If you’re doing it to sell for profit then look for players that are undervalued.
Repeat do Not buy packs.
There's a tip invest in hall of fame cards value never loses rlly prices are stable.Once you get enough money u can start playing it risky and buying rookies and hoping there worth a lot in the long run
I concur don't buy packs! I would buy some vintage cards to you of some hall of farmers from inserts set you like. Good luck on your journey!
Do some research, and figure out what brands/players you like. Try and get a large volume lot of rookies/inserts where the seller doesn’t have time to sell individually. Break down the cards from the lot and sell/trade them. Many long time collectors have more cards than space.
What do you do with base cards? Or cards you don’t want?
PSA is such a humble, but it seems you have to do it...thoughts? What about Becket, Gma, or Ccg? Also, should I just buy PSA 10 from ebay?
Market is still really good right now. Anyone who thinks it’s crashed is only comparing it to last year and 2020. It simply has corrected itself. Base cards are going for normal levels now lol.
I sold two separate jokic Rc's both donruss base Rc's for 40 and 50 bucks I didn't think they would sell that quick or for that much but they did!!
@@bmac85north Nice, I think some base RC will still hold value for MVP level players but isn’t at crazy levels for unproven rookies.
@@ozsportscardcollector4720 that doesn’t mean the market crashed for actual investors. Anyone who actually bought during that stupid high was going to lose. But saying things like cards are dead and the market is over is ridiculous. Can’t help some people couldn’t use better wisdom when making investments. It isn’t anyones fault but theirs. Market is still good.

I understand supply and demand and the economics aspect of basketball cards. We just don't know in 20 years if a 500 dollar card now will be worth more or less in the future. Would you say its a good investment overall or mainly a hobby? I'm trying it as both.
I think you’d have a better chance of a gain. If it’s a lower numbered or sought after parallel. Being a good product like prizm and optic would probably help

I love national treasures with event worn jersey and patch rookie cards and the sticker auto of veterans, make me cherish them like the high end product they arent... My vote goes out to flawless as the premium set even opulence seems more like a premium product compared to NT.
My favorite player is Joel Embiid, I think he is totaly amazing... Do you think he can be the new Shaq or Jordan the way he performed right now ?

I have a football card from 1996 that is in black and white of junior seau. And one that is in color everything else is the same except the color.
You guys realy don't know about our growing Hobby community in Europe or mainly in Germany and it's getting bigger and bigger every day.
We have some great collectors.
Also in Austria and other European countrys. You should pay more attention to our European community. 😉

Retail is sold at retail stores (Walmart target etc). Hobby is typically sold online or card shops, they’re way more expensive but have exclusive pulls and have better chances at better pulls.

Im just not a fan of Panini. I’m sticking with Topps, Bowman and Fleer basketball. Good time to collect until Topps comes back. Topps = Nike. Give it time.

So Prizm produces 20 brands of basketball cards with countless derivatives of nonsensical "rare" cards. That means none of them are rare. This is all so absurd. I just cannot get on board with this basketball stuff anymore. And apparently my NBA Hoops cards from a kid are the only worthless brand!

What really needs to be done in the sports cards world is the ban of reprint cards! That would stop fake Jordan’s etc., from being sold. If it wasn’t for the stupid reprints, you know you’d be buying a legit card, no grading slab needed! I wonder who was the “genius” that came up with the reprint idea.
