Worth noting, similar to baseball with teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and perhaps the Cubs -- hockey also has teams that seem to fetch a slightly higher premium for comparable caliber players. Bruins, Avalanche, Canadians, Rangers, Penguins stars and rookies seem to get 5-10% more for similarly skilled and hof track players.

Great Video! I've been collecting hockey cards for a long time so it's nice to see the sport/hobby get some love. One thing you touched on what could have been covered better was the different grading services for cards. BGS is the highly preferred grading service for modern hockey. For example a BGS 10 McDavid young gun is worth around 10k where a PSA 10 McDavid Young Gun is worth around 5k. There is a big difference in the values... this is the same across the hobby with modern hockey cards. When it comes to vintage cards though PSA and SGC are valued a lot higher than BGS vintage.

The only reason PSA grades 2% hockey is that they make it such a pain in the ass and so expensive(shipping and import duty charges) for Canadian collectors and investors to grade their cards. If PSA(or SGC or Beckett) opened grading locations here in Canada, the number of graded hockey cards would skyrocket considering 90% of the hockey card industry is located in Canada.

One of my favorite things about hockey is the fact that you only get 7 young guns in a hobby box. Compare that to a topps series one for baseball where you get flooded with rookies, ultimately making even the big pulls not that valuable. It makes collection fairly affordable while offering great returns on investing

Long time hockey collector here and hockey is the only sport I watch. Hockey card values are a funny thing, lots of people put these young guys on pedestals who haven't really done anything yet ( I guess same as any sport ) but a lot of guys tank and never live up to a quarter of their hype or potential especially in hockey. The preferred RC is Young Guns but they are not short printed and I personally don't see the appeal in them. There are so many other choices like Future Watch Autos or the Cup. Centers and Goalies is what everyone wants. Defenseman rarely go up in value, at least while the guys are still playing. But at the end of their career if you look at their numbers and your like wait he did what?? then guys are all over them esp if their hall worthy stats. HOF RC's are still under valued compared to other sports but are very quickly gaining ground. Nice to see a hockey get some love from you 😁

The young guns of the 90's are not the same. They were not short printed so don't have as high of values. I think it was 2002-03 they started coming one every six packs. The exclusives /100 and High gloss /10 young guns are the big chase cards that have been around a lot longer then Canvas/Clear cut etc. Just like other sports, if ripping buy hobby not retail if your chasing the big hits. The best part of the video is when you pronounced Richards name wrong :) Go Leafs Go.

The reason the PSA POP is low on Hockey Cards is because we don't use PSA. It is too expensive to ship our cards to the US and back to be graded. Some people use MNT or KSA but a lot just keep the cards raw. RAW hockey cards seem to sell better and without the huge gap in graded or non graded cards like in other sports. However, Once PSA lowers their prices I think you will see a flood of Hockey Cards!

The Connor Mcdavid Young Guns has a pop. report of 176 at Mnt ( Canadian grader ) with only one "10". Mnt is known for grading tough. There is no way you send in 176 cards to PSA and only get 1 "10". Good to know for investment purposes and possible flip potential. i wouldn't hesitate to buy a card graded by Mnt or KSA for that matter.

Wayne will always be the Best player of All times ! If he never scored a goal in his NHL career, still would be all time points leader !

Pop counts after 2015 and McDavid Rookie pop counts haven’t been higher. There were 256 added in 2021 in a PSA 10.

Geoff! KK Sportscards is able to offer PSA Economy for $48 and yours is $60! Nothing against you I’m just curious how that all works? Maybe they don’t offer pre-screening like y’all do? Just curious, thank you!

In regards to hockey cards being graded, As I'm sure you know, it's just to expensive from Canada to be using BGS or PSA for the average card. Especially when adding duty/customs fees. I think that the Canadian grading companies have had a major increase in demand for that reason. Maybe look into and review or discuss MNT and KSA grading for us north of the border It will also probably help them become a bit more recognized elsewhere which inturn only helps the hobby and those of us with thier slabs! Thanks again for all that you do!

You did not mention the best products to invest in long term, which would be in this order. The Cup, The Clear Cut Series, OPC Platinum(these 3 products give you HARD signed autos), Series One and Two for the Young Guns/Young Gun Parallels, do NOT waste your money on the Extended Series.

McDavid is a no brainer, he's cards go sky high year after year and the population series are very low and become very rare with time. A lot of good condition raw card in Canada, because they don't have many grading compagny up there in Canada, most of them are in the United States. Grading a Canadian hockey card can be money wise and very interesting for your wallet, especialy the McDavid one of corse! You pay the price for raw card Mcdavid at first, you graded them and pick-up the big money after they are grade, think about it!

Upper deck has become the EA of hockey cards. No competition, same watered down product year after year. Once someone else is allowed to enter back into the market on a licensed basis, maybe I’ll start buying boxes again. Until then, I’ve seen too many videos of “don’t give a shit, give me your money” quality control and gimmicky inserts from UD.
