Adrian Doherty was one of the most talented players ever to come through Manchester United’s academy. Injury would deny him the opportunity to ever make a first-team appearance, though, and his wandering spirit would take him far away from the game before his tragic death at just 26.

I went to school with a kid who really could've been a Zlatan, Suarez or Lewandowski, he was a beast. Its quite sad actually, he'd regularly trained with the England U16s at the age of 14, he played for the Nottingham Forest academy etc.But in his mid teens he befriended the wrong crowd. By the time he was 18, he'd been released by Forest because of his off field antics. He's now serving 10yrs sentence for his role in a ÂŁ1,000,000 cocaine distribution plot. It just baffles me. He had the talent but, it just seems like he enjoyed drug dealing even more.

I used to get brought to all their games as a child & remember how pacy & skillful Adrian was. He would torment any team on his own on his mazy runs... And you just knew the end product was going to end in a Goal. Unreal player of his generation.. and a Joy & Pleasure to have witnessed it. A quiet boy he was but did his talking on the Pitch. I used to watch Adrian in the youth team at United, a family friend was the goalkeeper in that team (Ian Wilkinson, whose own story is also pretty sad from a football perspective). Adrian was easily the standout performer in that team, ahead of Ryan Giggs (or Ryan Wilson as he was known at the time), Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Robbie Savage, etc. David Beckham wasn't even a regular starter in that team! I don't care much for the tactical videos or the sensible transfer series. Give me more of this content please!

Grew in the town I live in...his sister taught me English in school and his brother who I also know, played the main stage of Glastonbury. You'll never meet an more intelligent family...I would have loved him to have play for the first team and for utd!

Having been to the Netherlands many times...I always wonder why they donÂŽt put handrails around most of their city water channels....I have even seen cranes taking out cars from the channels.
In AmsterdamÂŽs famous red light district they even have lifebuoys hanging from street lights that you can throw to people who fall in...but no handrails around most of the channels, specially those where there are houseboats...truly bizarre

He was just like me as a kid. Loved music, bright, and a great football talent but ruined by injuries. In my case, seizures and epilepsy caused by hereditary genes ruined my career.
