My all time 11 (4-3-1-2): Neuer, Cafu, Beckenbauer, Maldini, Facchetti, Xavi, Neeskens, Zidane, Messi, Pele, Cr7. Substitutes(7): Yashin, Baresi, Matthaus, Maradona, Nazario Ronaldo, R. Carlos, Cruyff.
Notable exclusions(can easily walk into any world Xi): Pirlo, Iniesta, G. Best, Buffon, Gerd Muller, Dani Alves, Platini, Di Stefano, Rijkaard, Scirea, Garrincha, Breitner, Puskas, Dinho, Ramos, Henry, P. Lahm, Scholes, Iker Casillas, M. Desailly, L. Suarez, Modric, Cannavaro, P. Vieira.
Reasons behind selection: Cafu and Facchetti will be the key attacking fullbacks in this side who are adept at attack and defense to compensate the lack of pure wingers in the squad upfront. Messi takes a central 10 role, Pele and Cr7 are the wide forwards with Pele operating freely and Ronaldo in a more 4-4-2ish striker role getting support from the flanks with exceptional playmakers as Messi and Zizou behind. This side is loaded with technicians and masterminds who are phenomenal with the ball in keeping possession as well as distributing either horizontally with short passes or vertically and diagonally with ping passes and accurate long balls (here Beckenbauer and Neeskens come into play whereas Xavi dictates the tempo).

Some interesting choices.. And I do think a) it's very difficult to settle on an all time 11 in general, because there simply have been too many greats at several positions many of whom would easily be equally deserving.. b) because it also really depends on the system, so technically you would almost have to do an all time 11 for every formation.. Next consideration is, do you just go with a random squad based on percepted best talent - or would you try and put a squad together that could actually work well..? Personally, I am always learning towards the latter (which is why I think the Barcelona midfield trio is a perfectly reasonable choice).

Sinisa Mihailovic. Not only for his incredible set pieces, but for his aggressive and determined play, he was a winner through and through.
Clarence Seedorf. Could do it all. Slotted into any role in midfield and did it as good as anyone else could.
George Best - Britain's finest ever player.
Miroslav Klose. He is the World Cup top scorer for a reason. His timing, never wasting motion, is unrivalled in football.

@@CJVP99 yes. Tom Finney. One of England's most naturally talented forwards ever, lost 6 years of his career to the war and was denied a transfer to Juve in 51. Pele rated him as one of the best ever.

@@philipmalcolm4550 I mean, I respect his legacy and all but come on mate you put Finney on the XI but omitted Ronaldo Nazario De Lima (R9)? Arguably the greatest talent we have ever seen on the pitch pre knee injury, that’s just blasphemous. I don’t even think Finney would put himself over R9 lol RIP

@@CJVP99 my list my rules. Your mileage may vary: I mean, I'd struggle to tell you why Baines is the best left back of all time rather than just my favourite, also. Its all opinions at the end of the day, Clive.
NB Finney could play anywhere across the front 4 and also drive a tank. Your move, Ronaldo.

@@philipmalcolm4550 if it’s just your favorite players I can accept that, we all have our favorite players who may not be the best but still hold a place in our hearts for whatever reason but aside form a few outliers (Southall, Baines, Finney) the rest of your XI all have a case for their but the outliers don’t unless they’re just your favorite because there are so many better options lol
