  • In this video, Cuba for Cruisers, Clearance at Santiago, we arrive in Cuba, sail past the infamous Guantanamo Bay American Naval Reserve, then on to Santiago for customs clearance, immigration and PCR testing at the Marina. We visit the town of Santiago, then Dan finds a welder who can repair our broken traveller.

    In August of 2017 we sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our CZcams sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. We also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard full time. Sailing Balachandra is published weekly so please subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos!

    I don't know, I think you paid too much for that welding 😉 Cubans are wonderful people, the country is gorgeous. Many good reefs for snorkeling or diving. Good video guys. Might not be considered standard for most sailors but, I push the figure eight's top over the middle. It makes it fatter and still break open easily.

    It has been a while since I was in Cuba, so it is good to hear that the people are still as welcoming. Tough to hear that the Covid-19 lock down has affected the country so dramatically. Keep up the good work with your videos.

    I love that you were able to help the Cuban people by contributing to their economy. I believe that is the best way to help at the ground level. It helps people maintain their pride, and provides them the ability to better provide for themselves and their families without having to rely on the handouts of others. Thank you for sharing this experience.

    Single phase soft starters
    are designed to start up single phase motors smoothly, reducing initial shock and improving the longevity of mechanical system components. In addition, soft starters can reduce starting current in order to limit peak energy demand.

    VERY helpful info about the entry process and especially about Santiago, the marina, the boat yard and the people. I'll have to start collecting old cell phones before I slip the lines! ;)

    We have a SURPLUS prime minister in Canada with family ties to Cuba you should have taken along!
    We Albertans would have crowd funded you a brand spanking new 50 ft yacht if you had done that!🤣⛵️

      It will be interesting to find out if Cuba runs those Covid jails too. But I doubt it. I‘m sure Cuba will be different too under this Covid siege, you will experience what many years of dictatorship will do to people. But the chances of having fun in Cuba to easily forget about Edmonton are high Todd. Cubans understand how to live very happy despite all the hardship they have to endure. I used to live in South America many years before getting lost on my longest flight ever with a steady North heading, ending up in a small oil town in the North east of Alberta. Fair winds and all my best wishes to you!🤗👍🇨🇦

      Americans currently can't visit Cuba then return to the US. Most other countries can come to Cuba. We have a French boat and a Russian flagged boat anchored next to us right now :)

    Excellent video! How do you get US dollars to pay?

    • @tvonzweck
      @tvonzweck Před 3 lety

      They don't take US dollars in Cuba, or credit or debit cards. They'll exchange $US for Cuba's dinero.

    • @SailingBalachandra
      @SailingBalachandra  Před 3 lety

      Well the marina will take US $, and you can convert USD to CUP anywhere you go, but you can't spend USD in stores, etc. There are ATMs and you can use credit cards at the Marinas

    The situation with cuba, has nothing to do with embargo. Thats not true. The cuban leaders live like kings .
