2021 GMC Denali Yukon Diesel review. Surprise in trailering the Rockies. Perfect drivetrain or close

  • Denali Yukon 2021 Duramax is Cadillac Escalade's closest competition. Though cousins, the Denali stands out with totally different look and $20,000 that stays in your bank not a dealerships bank. Just the interior colors of Dark Walnut wood and Ash Gray leather speak luxury. The dash is well organized instead of the HUD switches finding room and the light switches roll in line instead of scattered knobs of older models. I like the cross stiches in the seats and doors. 4 captains chairs is like 1st class on the jets we use to fly. 26 mpg on the highway from the diesel and 10-speed make it a large SUV you can afford to drive. 7500 lbs. of trailer towing is reasonable.

    Considering ordering one of these, and I have gotten obsessed with watching reviews. I literally have watched probably 20+ hours of them about this specific model. Yours is my favorite. Loved watching the vehicle actually put to work. Thank you!

    I loved watching you tow with it. I have a suburban with the 3.0 on order and if your enjoying the ride and power with a trailer then I have no doubt I will love the feel of this ride. I can’t wait to feel it riding on a pillow of air. Thanks for a great video.

    Picked up my DDD (Denali Duramax Diesel) in Onyx Black 4x4 2 weeks ago and love it. Don't let the 277hp fool you, it's a monster off the line if you want it to be and has plenty of passing power on the highway. The 10 speed makes up for most of it and I've averaged 24.5 mpg's with mixed highway/city driving. I opted to not have air suspension and the flat screen displays on the back as I don't need them and one less expensive thing to break. Be warned, I placed my order at the end of March and got my sexy beast at the beginning of June. Now with chip shortages not sure what the wait times are. All-in, she's got 800 miles on her with the majority of that being a long road trip to Ocean Isle, NC. We'll worth the money and the wait when you compare against the competition (looking at you Lincoln Navigator). Well done video, thanks!

    I learned a great deal from this review. Well done, guys. I am considering the diesel for the much improved mpg, but have a concern I am hoping you might provide some insight about. I won't be doing a great deal of towing, just a rare occasion, but I live out west in ski country and though I will be driving all over the country, hills and flats, I am most concerned about the diesel's performance (Without towing anything) at altitude and at higher turnpike speeds going up some of the steep turnpike hills in say Colorado on i70 going up from Denver and Utah on i80 going up from Salt Lake City. If the Denali is already going a steady say 70mph, going up a steep turnpike hill will this diesel with the much lower 277 hp still be able to accelerate nicely to pass another vehicle? It is my understanding that when you choose the diesel over the 6.2 liter v8, though the torque remains the same at 460, two things change, one, the torque apparently kicks in at a lower 1500 rpm's, and two, the hp drops to 277 hp. I imagine there has to be some kind of trade off with that lower hp in some kind of circumstances, though maybe that strong torque at lower rpm's, combined with what I hear is a very good 10 speed transmission, maybe that makes any such concerns moot. What do you think about this issue, what if any trade offs would I face getting the Denali diesel with the lower hp, and will it still be able to accelerate from a fast highway speed going up steep turnpikes in the mountains at altitude? Other?
    Thanks for any insight you can provide on this matter. It's not lost on me that you were towing 7500 lbs and were able to drive up those steep grades pretty good, but I didn't hear the speeds, and you didn't discuss passing, so I thought to clarify.

    • @MrTruckTV
      @MrTruckTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes the 10-speed transmission help with acceleration up hill. Each gear is closer allowing it to reach the next gear going uphill. I think you'll be fine in the mountains.

      @jgworrell Před 2 lety

    The one thing that I think is missing from this video is a subjective review. I’m considering buying one exactly like the one you drove and regularly pull a 7000 pound boat. Did the engine have enough power when towing fully loaded like that? Did the suspension feel like it was up to the task? Etc…
