It's refreshing to hear an unbiased commentary about trucks especially GM's trucks which totally tend to piss me off I worked for them for over 25 years and watch them decline in quality, but the honesty of this person is what's valuable because I know vehicles and this man speaks in terms that makes sense and that are relevant to a purchase of a vehicle, keep up the good work.

I had a new '18 F150 Lariat 3.0 Powerstroke. I loved the truck. I only sold it because I bought a motorhome instead of a pull behind. I loved that I got 30mpg on the highway and had torque for days. I didn't have a lot of payload due to the fact that it had every option, including the panoramic roof. I'd probably go with a Powerboost hybrid if I bought anther 1/2 ton. My next truck will likely be an F450 Limited. Plan to get out of the MH and into a TH. When I sold the F150, I got $44k for it. I paid $46k. Drove it 2 years and 18k miles for $2k.

I have a 2022 GMC Sierra SLT and I'll have to say I like the seats. I have always liked the firmest seats I could get, same with mattresses. It is all up to personal taste. I am old enough to remember in the 70's through the 80's when the auto press lambasted GM for seats that were too soft and held Mercedes up as the standard. By the way those seats were very firm too.

Greetings! I purchased a half ton last year. I was between a GM Denali diesel and a Ford F150 Hybrid. I went back and forth because I liked both and wanted good mileage. After sitting down and figuring it out I went with the F150 hybrid. Here is one of two reasons:
I figured like you said you got, 32 highway, 28MPG for the Denali city. I own a heavy trailer so I would have required that heavy tow package. Here was the problem, Diesel in my area is right now $3.30/gal at best price. DEF is running $9.98 for 2.5 gallons ($4/gal). According to the information I was given, it takes 1.75 gallons of DEF per 100 gallons of diesel fuel. That comes to 12.03 cents a mile. Highway cost comes to about 10.53 cents at with 32mpg. Then I was told that was a minimal DEF usage- not towing. The usage would go way up if towing which seems to be confirmed by owners,
"Our '21 Denali used about 20 gallons of DEF in a 1200 mile trip pulling a 7000 lb travel trailer. Our DEF consumption without pulling seems to be minimal" (from the Duramax Four,um). ($80 DEF) but others report different results. It is hard to pin down cost per mile as the usage varies. Overall the actual savings comes about to be very similar.
The F150 Hybrid was an unknown. No one seemed to know what it would do when I asked. So, I figured it would at least get what a regular 3.5 Eco would get plus a bit. One report came out really low and another said they got 24mpg in testing on highway. That made since as it was about the same as the regular model. Gas in my area best price is $2.99/gal. So, at 24mpg the F150 would cost about 12.4 cents a gallon. This floored me. I owned two diesel cars in the past and liked the better mileage but neither one took DEF. I ordered the Ford. I get 24mpg on the highway and about 21-22 in town (it varies a lot) Towing my 7000# trailer I get 12mpg.
I am not sure, like many about what is going to be the norm i a few years. I knew I could not order the electric one as it required too much charging in its towing range to be reasonable in my opinion. Now I hear they are going to iron phosphate batteries to make the EVs cheaper to buy but with a shorter range. Duh! We will have to see what unfolds for the consumer who needs a truck!

  • @gregggwidt110
    @gregggwidt110 Před rokem +2

Nice honest review - for context, I get similar city mileage in 22' hybrid f-150 when NOT towing, and gas is cheaper than diesel, and no DEF. When towing, I get terrible mileage, and sure the diesel GMC does better. Payload in my f-150 hybrid is 1,611 pounds and the price for mine in Aug. 2022 was 57,000. Added perk with the hybrid is I can power my camper and house up to 7,200 watts. Pros and cons to both but wanted to chime in on the mileage piece as there are other options than diesel for decent non-towing mileage.

I'd say see if you could find some Denali Ultimate massaging seats from a junkyard. Trucks that are totaled will sometimes have the seats still in perfect condition. I don't know if you would be able to hook up the massage part in the truck you have, but I think the softness of the seats would be worth the switch regardless. Hopefully your reviews of the truck will help GMC to change to a more comfortable seat.

I just recently purchased a 2023 Silverado LTZ with the Duramax which replaced my Ram 2500 Limited diesel. After repeat failures with the 5.3L V8's in our service fleet when I owned my company I hesitated to go back with GM. I have four friends that own the 1/2 ton 3.0L diesels. One has right at 40k miles, two have over 50k miles, and another that just turned 100k miles on his. The only issue beyond routine service was my buddy that turned 100k miles had one fuel injector replaced under warranty late last year.
After seeing their results I decided to purchase one myself and give it a shot. I do tow a 25' center console boat but only a few times a year. The rest of my driving is highway trips and very little around town. On the highway I see 31+ MPG and my overall average hovers around 27. Like you I find the seats to be a bit on the firm side but not to the point that I regret purchasing the vehicle. I figure I will get use to them. The interior while very nice is still slightly below the comparable Ram in my opinion. Especially the plastic trims pieces with the fake wood appearance that feel hollow and kind of cheap. My only other gripe is the driver's cup holder that is located on the passenger side of the center console.
I will say on the highway the truck has an excellent ride and is beyond quiet! Steering is responsive and the braking feels much better compared to my last Silverado pickups. One feature my wife enjoys is having the ability for multiple users in the Google system. She has her favorite radio stations and I have mine. Change users and the last station you were enjoying comes right back as well as your personal settings! I really have no complaints with my purchase especially after finally finding a dealer that was willing to come off over 7k on the sticker while other dealers in my general area continue to play games!!

Excellent review. I thought that the seat issue was only mine, but it is nice to know that others are having the same issue with these painful seats. They are ridiculously hard, narrow slippery and unsupportive of me and my body type. Putting a cushion on them changes the seating and driving position and that bothers me. I am thinking of turning this truck in due to the pain in my back and especially my bottom that develops even with short drives.

Other CZcams presenters have said the same thing about GM truck seats. The rest of the world have diesel engines in their light duty trucks. I’m not sure why that’s not a standard here. Given the fuel economy it should be a no brainer. I have a V6 Toyota Tacoma. It gets reasonable fuel economy. The rest of the world gets the Toyota Hilux with a 4 cylinder turbo diesel. I’m sure that truck gets much better fuel economy. It also has a much higher payload and tow capacity. Modern diesel engines and trucks go together very well and should be a standard.

People complaining about price. Premium trucks costs premium money. You can still get an RST or elevation well under 60k. And as far as buying used , a 4-5 yr old truck. Depreciation comes when you trade it in. The dealer will put up to 10k on that price with a considerable interest rate and an aftermarket warranty that you have to purchase.

I have a 22 refresh AT4 (after having my Denali order cancelled by GM at the time - took what I could find). I regularly pull a 24' enclosed (~7800lbs) and I do wish I had a max tow spec (+LZ0 would be a bonus). I think the max tow package would be beneficial for what I'm towing. I also think the AT4 suspension degrades the towing experience a bit more. It's a big softer from what I understand which isn't what you want for towing. It's not horrible but the max tow pkg would make a much more solid package for towing what I'm towing. Overall pretty happy though.

I believe the issue with oil consumption is that other Chanel’s have shown it. So it is a issue but not every truck. The problem is GMC has written a BS disclaimer saying it’s normal to consume excessive amounts of oil. They have done this to get them out of replacing engines under warranty.
I should know because I work for a dealer and that’s exactly what the manufacturer did. In a attempt to cover up a engine defect.

Mines a 22 lm2 ltz chevy and it's probably the best vehicle I've owned. Power and mileage are awesome. I do wish it had a gear indicator and an actual fuel cap. The seats are the ONLY reason I didn’t buy a GMC 1500 with the baby Duramax earlier this year. I had a 2022 Chevrolet 2500 High County Duramax and absolutely hated the seats and didn’t need that large of a truck so decided to get into a new 1500. I test drove the 2023 GMC’s and the seats were identical to my 22 Chevrolet seats. Everything else about the truck is good. Because of the seats I decided to trade my Chevy in for a Ram. Drove 6 hours straight to the dealership and my back/legs were killing me when I got there. I immediately got in the new Ram and drove the 6 hours back and my back and legs felt fine. I can’t stress enough that the seats suck! I’ve bought new GMC/Chevy trucks every year or two since 2006 and will not buy again until they fix this issue.
They just need to use the previous generation seats (those were great). I’m a normal size/weight 42 year old man )6’ 200lbs) so I should be able to get comfortable.

The GMCs are just better well rounded luxury trucks and look the part. Their functionality and intuitiveness truly sets them apart. They make it so easy to drive them, work with them - pretty much everything. I think this refresh was a “yea ok we’ll update the interiors and play the glitz and glam game w/ RAM but they’ll lose and as long as you pay…” and GM customers have showed they will pay for the nicer things. The response to the refreshed trucks has been amazing. So I’m almost afraid for Ford & RAM of what the next gen *gm* trucks will be bringing.

@G-Rated that's a beautiful opinion. But it's just that, an opinion. It's not facts. Everyone has their own feelings on what makes the best truck. Every manufacturer has its good and bad qualities. It's up to the buyer to decide what suits them the best.

@@nathanbillingsley42 I’m not even sure why you felt the need to even make this comment. I’m fully aware of my opinion being an “opinion”. I never said it was a fact. My opinion has not changed not even a little bit tho.
It _is_ a fact that the *gm* trucks have the most intuitive interiors, the most innovative features, and best forms of functionality. Ford and RAM can’t compete with the Multi-Pro tailgate, the double function power side steps, the infotainment system experience, Supercruise while towing, etc. There are several key features on the GM trucks that make life easier that you won’t even find in the competition. _That’s_ what’s factual and ain’t just someone’s opinion, so that’s sorta what I was getting at. Their next generation of trucks will be an issue for Ford and RAM for sure, that’s my opinion based upon *the facts.* 🤷🏾‍♂️

@G-Rated I made my post because I disagree with yours. Gm was behind Ram in technology for years. My original post was to tell the poster that the pedal monster can help with throttle response. If you read the original post you replied to, it says the person chose a Ram because to him, it was more comfortable. Also the multipro tailgate is the worst tailgate option in the truck industry. Again my opinion.

I have the last year, (2022), of the Colorado diesel, Z71 4X4. Around town low 20's in the mpg's dept. Mid to high 30's mpg's on the hwy. But to get that with a full size truck is amazing, and now it's only GM that offers a diesel option for the 1/2 ton trucks. And 2022 was the last year for the real babymax diesel for the GM mid sizers. A huge mistake by GM imho. The 2.8 wasn't the latest and greatest in diesel technology like the awesome LZ0, but it has plenty of down low grunt where we need it the most. For towing, we have a 21 ft TT with an empty weight of 5050lbs. Pulling that through the mountains of Oregon and Idaho we averaged 12.9 mpg's. And that was pulling heavy. Hey GM, break the mold once again and offer a 4 cyl version of the LZ0 and own the market...
