2021 GMC Yukon AT4 Towing Review: Enclosed Trailer Too Much?

- The 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 is rated to tow 8,200 pounds - nearly as much as the 2021 Yukon SLT and as much as the 2021 Yukon Denali. But how well can the 2021 Yukon AT4 tow an enclosed trailer given its softer suspension and all-terrain tires? Jake put a Summit White Yukon AT4 with the 5.3L V8 to the test, towing his aluminum enclosed trailer and BMW racecar to Virginia International Raceway for Hyperfest 2021. Here's how the 2021 Yukon AT4 towed an enclosed trailer, and how we think it'd stack up to a Yukon Denali.

Great review as always! Love the detail you provide in reviewing these tow vehicles.
Jake, one of your best videos to date. Nice work and impressive candid review of critical issues when towing. These types of videos truly separate your reviews from the standard cheerleader videos that your peers regularly produce on CZcams.
Thanks Jon! Really trying to not just be another variant of any brand's PR team and talk about what actually matters to people towing, even when it's not so ideal as in this case. There are other variants of Yukon that would likely be way better with an enclosed trailer behind 'em. Appreciate you watching and sharing your feedback! :-)
Exactly like you said, this is a pretty valuable insight into the Yukon. I have to imagine that of all the Yukon trim, people who are most inclined to be towing all the time, are most inclined to get the AT4 trim. The people with ATV's, side-by-sides, or dirt bikes, are naturally going to be drawn to the AT4. I don't really see people buying something like this for true off-roading or overlanding, but it may feel a little more comfortable going down the dirt roads or accesses to trails or campgrounds.
Greetings,
I just received my new car (Yukon Denali XL 2022) and I have noticed that the default driving mode is on Tow, and when trying to change it to Normal, It does not change.
Any Advise ❓
Hey there, on our test car, the drive mode defaulted back to Normal every time we cycled the ignition. If yours is not doing the same, you should see your dealer's service department for inspection/repair as part of your warranty.
So I just bought a forest river RV that is at 6695 dry weight. It is a T2700, it calls itself a 32 ft. It seems to tow fine, great video as it said you were at 7000, so I assume you would be OK with this for this at4?
Glad the video was helpful! 32' is a long camper for the short wheelbase Yukon regardless of trim level, moreso on AT4 given its soft suspension. Would be more comfortable with it behind a Yukon XL for a bit more stability. In either case, measure your tongue weight and use a hitch with weight distribution and sway control for best results.
Payload is key. I’m confounded by why 2500 SUVs STILL have not come back to the market. We need an SUV capable of hauling 6 people comfortably, cargo, and a 30+ foot 7500+ pound camper. Someone for the love of god bring back a 3/4 ton XL SUV with a payload of at least 2500+ pounds of payload!
So you mean you need a Suburban with the diesel? Duh. The obvious choice for those who need their family vehicle to be their tow vehicle.
Maybe in 10 years when my diesel GL is done I’ll be able to score a deal on one!
That would be the best way to configure one, most likely! We haven't driven the diesel to have any first-hand opinions, but the longer wheelbase and street-focused suspension would definitely help either way with something like a Suburban LT.
