    I think they really nailed the new SUVs and I can't wait for the diesels to come out. One minor disappointment is the payload. I think they should've increased the gvwr more payload and towing. I also think they need a HD version that can to 12k or more.

    Having had the 2020 GMC 3500HD AT4 for almost 5 months now, I do have at least one "wish", airbags for the rear...
    When I hookup my 20+5 gooseneck I'm towing 7200lbs right off the bat, then I load my other truck, 2002 GMC 2500HD, an additional 7000lbs and that puts me at 14200 and that squats the truck by about 2", so my wish would be for the automatic A/B system portrayed in this video...
    Mirrors/cameras...One of things I love about my truck, side view mirrors, extendable for towing, BUT there is a twist, when I'm turning corners while towing, I flick the directional on AND the camera on that side mirror shows me a view straight down the side of my entire rig on the 8" infotainment screen...really handy to see where your rig is in relationship to the corner...
    I was really surprised at the cost(US), considering that's about(+/-) where my 2020 GMC 3500HD AT4 came in($79,300)...

    Great review guys. One thing driving in the real world especially in the western US with lots of mountain passes, the 5.3 feels underpowered. I have a 2018 and light trailer at 4k. Loaded up and with passengers this gets maxed out fast. And does feel underpowered at times. Maybe the 10 speed helps?! And they DO have issues with the AFM - Cylinder deactivation is horrible on the vavle train. So the 5.3 is not bulletproof by any means. Local dealer had 3 in for service on the valves with low miles.

  • @marckruse2181
    @marckruse2181 Před 3 lety +5

    Great video. The tow rating maybe legal for this AT4 to pull the Bullit travel trailer. The tongue weight however is probably too high for this vehicle means in real life even when your trailer is absolutely empty and you just have gas and a little bit of gear in your AT4 you are already over the small payload this vehicle has. The little payload is unfortunate since you can't even drive legally with 4 adults and luggage not even speaking of pulling a trailer!

    Great info...nice to see a travel trailer used. One thing...what about wheelbase vs trailer length with all that side area?

    • @TruckKing
      @TruckKing  Před 3 lety +3

      Wheelbase is definitely important. General rule I've used is the first 110 inches of wheelbase allows for a 20-foot trailer. For each additional four inches of wheelbase length, you get one foot more in trailer length.
      The 2021 Yukon has a 134.1-inch wheelbase (about 4 inches longer than in the previous generation, making it a better towing rig overall), which puts us at 26 feet using the formula. Our travel trailer in the video was a little over 30-feet, so we pushed past the formula, but the setup still felt safe. Trailer/vehicle weight plays a big role as well, along with the suspension calibration, and the Yukon handled this load admirably.

    • @darrengibson644
      @darrengibson644 Před 3 lety +2

      @@TruckKing Thanks for the in-depth exploration, it gets overlooked! Please correct me if I am wrong, the standard Yukon tested has 120.9" wheelbase, need the Xl for 134.1". Only a 20' trailer seems unrealistic for such a capable truck.

GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. Just curious about the differences between the Z71 and the AT4 again, you stated that the one gets the G80 and the other gets the ELSD. If you watch this video there is no locking of the rear diff.? czcams.com/video/Ft9jOZfZHXE/video.html (7min) I asked your old Co-worker (Andre S) about this and he mentioned that apparently it was faulty and that both the Z71 and the AT4 get the ELSD. I'm disappointed that these vehicles don't offer the rear view camera in any trim other than the High Country/Denali seeing as how large they are. We are looking at getting one of these for our growing family and I've been doing as much research as I can but still confused as to why these things are. Also how is it that the similar equiped suburban is 8K cheaper than the Yukon XL? HUD, leather quality, better differential? Thanks for any clarification

      This requires some investigation - when we did the original drive we were told one had the G80 and the other didn't. Then they said they weren't sure after all. We'll make some calls.

    i would like to have seen you get that short wheelbase truck on the highway with no sway control hitch. not real safe. Talk about white knuckle.

    There were multiple questions inquiring about fuel economy while towing, but none were answered. Is it that bad, or....

      On short test videos like this (less than 75 miles) we don’t measure fuel economy. Would not be a fair average.

    I don't understand how the trailer blind spot monitoring works?

      GM's site has a good explanation - google it.

    How come this SUV does not come with tow mirrors when you have the tow package...that is really weird IMO. Nice SUV but I am skeptical of long term reliabilty with GM.

      These SUV's time and time again can make 300,000 with not much money outta pocket. I use suburban and Tahoe for my business. And I have no complaints

      Highway Traffic Act (in Ontario anyway) says you have to see clear down the side of the trailer.

    I don’t think you could get the 6.2 with the AT4 package... at least, not according to the GMC configurator.
