    I am a long time viewer but first time commenter. Your content has always interested me because we use our RV recreationally and use HD trucks to pull it. As I have become more educated on loading and weight ratings my towing experiences have gotten much better after getting the right equipment for the job. Our current set up is 2019 Mesa Ridge 310BHS Travel Trailer (the flat floor 5th wheel as you call it) and a 2022 GMC Sierra AT4 3500 HD SRW Duramax and we love it. I guess everyones rear is different, because I find the GM seats very comfortable. We did a long haul day in our previous 21 2500 Sierra from Jackson Wy to Raton NM, maybe 14 hrs, and I was not fatigued, on the other hand, my company truck is a Ford, I cant hardly drive that thing an hour without going crazy trying to find a comfortable seating position.
    As far as the Baby Duramax, my only regret when buying our 2022 Yukon SLT was the unavailability at the time of the Diesel, not that its not an option, but constrained by GM and only available in the Denali trim currently. I know that Diesel is more expensive (it is really not that bad where we are in East Texas) but to have that kind of range is awesome, especially in Texas where it takes many miles to go anywhere.
    Awesome content. Maybe you can help me a look at the hitch weight on these large Open Range and Mesa Ridge Travel trailers, its a big number.

    I remember fondly our shop truck from the early 80's... it was the 1980 Chevy Luv (Isuzu Pup) with the 4 cylinder diesel, 5 speed and the long bed in a baby blue paint. Usual fuel mileage was in the high 30's with regular forays into the low 40-42mpg. It was bare bones basic, but it would carry a rebuilt 8v71 Detroit Diesel in the bed and deliver them all over New England with no problems. She had over 220k miles when my brother totaled her into telephone pole avoiding a deer. The replacement 1985 Chevy S-10 was better in some ways, but could never compete with fuel economy.

    I have just recently returned to my home here in the state of Maine from my yearly Christmas trip down to visit my family in Lewisville Texas where I’m from.
    In September I purchased a 2023 Hyundai sonata limited hybrid, the whole reasoning behind purchasing this vehicle was for the mpg, considering that I’m having to drive 2 1/2 one way hours to go to college three days a week, And my 97 dodge only gets about 8 mpg. (considering I was using this for the first two months of school, and it was just not a smart financial thing.)
    Adding up all of the gas receipts, I only ended up spending about $315 in gas round-trip, including all of the mileage in between Texas, Louisiana, and visiting family in North Carolina. My overall fuel average cost between 50 and 61 miles a gallon in the Hyundai. The car is very beautiful, and unlike before I do stand behind hybrid technology a little bit more than I did before. However, the truck you’re talking about is very beautiful and very impressive.!

My next tank i filled up all the way was only 461 miles. I usually have the cruise set at 75 and average 21-22 mpg but tried slowing down to 65 and was averaging 24. I also noticed when starting up and driving a few feet I instantly lose 2 miles then it just keeps dropping up to 20 miles for a half mile trip to drop my kids off. Wondering if its an issue I should bring up to the dealer. Tested it on the highway on my 23 mile commute to work going 65 and my range went from 405 to 399 with the range staying at 400 for a while. A different thought that most don't think about with stiff seats are two things:
    1) It means they will last longer. I worked in an upholstery shop and all the soft / worn seats were needing repairs because they would rip on the seat frame. That was with all the makes, so maybe they all have updated in a way to prevent that?
    2) How long do you plan to own the vehicle? If you plan to own it a long time, they might break in longer. But will be more comfortable beyond something that's soft now and get's too soft later on.
    My two cents.

    I got my Silverado 3.0 duramax about 2 week ago. I’m getting like 60mpg! (Just finished breaking it in) 22.5 miles to work, one way. 8 miles at 44, 8 miles 55, 2 miles at 50 and 2 miles at 35. 240 miles and I just got to 1/8 used. Loving this engine! Fuel saving alone is 100% better. I’m back road driving, only one traffic light and 4 stop signs.

    Great information. I think it all depends on pricing of diesel vs gas. Where I live. Gas is 3.39 per gal. Deisel is 5.39 per gal. Based on your information my 2021 Ram 5.7 E Torque would have used 7.4 gal on the same trip at aprox 28.00 cost. The Denali would be 5.4 aprox of deisel at 30.00 aprox cost. Because the cost of the 3.0 is only about 1000.00 more I think it comes down to personal preference. Please keep the information coming because I’m on the fence about getting a 3.0 as my last truck before I retire!!

    Impressive fuel mileage, the issue with Diesel engines is emissions controls and fuel prices,diesel is over 2.00 a gallon higher here than regular gasoline. Then you have to buy DEF which has skyrocketed in price. GM offers that engine at a bargain price and I love the inline 6 diesel layout it just lends itself to endless pulling power and torque.

    • @donhappel9566
      @donhappel9566 Před rokem +1

      Fuel prices are so location dependent. Last year I bought an LM2 Silverado for my work truck as I put about 25000 miles a year, mostly highway on and the fuel costs from my gas 3/4 ton Nissan van were killing me. At the time diesel here in CA was about the same as premium (about 50 cents over regular 87) which is historically about normal. Of course at the moment it's running over like $1.20 dollar more than regular. I'm still money ahead on my fuel costs since the truck easily doubles the economy of my old van but yeah, the current up-tick of diesel is a PITA.

    My 21 3.5 Ecoboost's lifetime average is 19.6 mpg, I see as much as 24 on the highway at 70, so by the time you add $1-$1.50 more for diesel vs 87oct, not too mention adding def fluid and expensive fuel filters and the gas engine is on par if not a bit better than the diesel and pretty much a proven motor, I love diesel's but nowadays it's just not worth the hassle anymore and if you look at new truck lot's, the 2 most newer trucks that get traded in with low mileage are the ford f150 powerboost and the gm 1500 3.0l diesel, so that's gotta tell you something about their reliability so far
