  • SHE GOT FAAAAAT - it's splashed all over social media, the magazines and internet forums. WHAT happens when influencers stop being 'body goals'?! Try Function of Beauty for yourself! Click the link here cen.yt/functionstephanielange to get 20% off your first custom 16oz set + free shipping when you become a member!! *Thank you to Function of Beauty for sponsoring this video.
In this video we're exploring what exactly happens when celebrities and influencers who were once thought of as 'body goals', gain weight, or change their body in some way. Is societies judgement of these women fair (... i think not). What can we do to change the way we view women and weight gain / loss? Why do we celebrate women for adhering to a certain standard, but shame them when they step outside of that mould? Furthermore - why is gaining weight seen as such a BAD THING??
Let me know what you think in the comments guys, love you! x

Being a woman is hard. Our bodies go through a lot. Sometimes other women can be more harsh than men. I pray for Selena's health. I gained a lot of weight after my 2 back surgeries. I am finally trying to lose weight again for the 100th time. It's a struggle. I wish all us humans peace and health.

We are harsher than men, and it is because we measure ourselves under those same standards (those that only people who's work is their body or are genetically blessed unicorns have), find ourselves lacking and need to judge someone else that looks "less" to give ourselves value. It's effed up. Even when you realize your are doing this is hard to stop cause it's engrained by society. Effed up

I think one of the main problems is trying to meet all the standards simultaneously and permanently. Even if we are blessed with, or work hard to attain one standard, we immediately start thinking about the hundred other ones we missed out on. I think the constant advertising we’re exposed to plays a bad role here...but hopefully if we work at finding out what beauty means to us ( us, not the algorithm lol) and work to incorporate those aspects into ourselves, with the understanding it is transient (e.g. the stomach expands with food in it, so if what you truly want is a flat tummy, then even with hard work it still won’t be there for your whole hormonal cycle, let alone the full day) and realistically achievable (there are limitations to everything), then I think these standards could be fun and fulfilling, rather than toxic. But it should always be unique to us, 💯 agree that ranking ourselves and others is a cruel waste of time that is unfortunately almost encouraged by our society

In Spain, no one cares about this sort of thing. Girls wear whatever they want and everyone looks gorgeous and happy. It's the way it should be. Having moved here from Australia, I'm still really self conscious of my stomach being exposed or my legs showing. But I'm slowly gaining the confidence of the Spanish girls. It feels good just to be happy. I wish that for the rest of the world.

@@NotJoegoldberg I don’t want to say those are the only reason, may play some factors. My family is Nigerian and from the Calabar region and back in the day before a woman got married, some of them went through “fattening houses” which basically made you bigger in order to look more fertile, prosperous, and beautiful to the husband. I’m not sure how much poverty and access to food plays a role in modern day for this standard or even back in the day. I think it’s just a different form of beauty? It does show wealth in a way, but I’d have to ask my family why we see curvier women as more attractive. The fattening house is specific to calabar culture so I don’t know if other parts practice it as well.

Gaining weight didn't take away the feeling and fear of being too skinny. I'll actually go into panic mode if I feel the slightest hunger pang and imagine myself shrinking down by the second. I think most women deal with a transition of having a different body when they were young and then growing into another body as an adult. It’s so normal for our bodies to change. I played sports from 5 years old through college, and now that I’m done my body is so different. I have struggled with it a lot because I used to be made fun of for being super skinny, but now I’m more “normal” and have been made to feel fat by beauty standards. It’s such a mind f*ck to be honest. But I am working on owning my body at any shape, and I hope for anyone else out there dealing with the same thing that you are on your journey to feeling comfortable in your skin too. honestly as someone who's gone through this and is recovering from this all i can say is thank you for this video,it really opened my eyes. i used to be the very skinny girl with an hourglass figure(that's my natural shape)a big booty(I've always had a big booty, ever since I was like 11)and smallish boobs. everyone used to compliment me on how skinny and gorgeous i was and yada yada yada. plus i come from an abusive household where food is measured with a spoon and everybody looks at you when you eat and observes and criticizes if you eat too much. they call you fat and tell you to eat less,so I never ever felt free. I moved out and in two years I gained a bit of weight. people literally harassed me. i was a model for a while till last year and one time as I worked in a restaurant I told my boss(who was literally like 60,weighed like 100 kg and was hairy af) that I'd been a model and he said yeah you're pretty but you're not skinny enough did you use to be thin? no cause why did you gain weight? how did it happen?
my hairdresser literally went to the extent of saying omg how much have you eaten? yeah you should leave your boyfriend maybe you've gotten a bit too comfortable with your body (coming from a guy who looked like santa claus)
like what in the actual fuck
where in the world do you get the fucking right to say these things about my body??like my value is ALL in my body
and when I said something back they'd answer with yeah you're too sensitive OH COME ON LITTLE WIENIE
I've battled with this for years
when I was 15 i was so skinny i didn't even have titties anymore
and in the year between 19 and 20 people just wouldn't stop fucking harassing me
it went to an extent that i would cry for a few hours while changing before going out and sometimes would stay at home so I really REALLY feel for these women
and if this is what i had to go through i can only imagine what people bigger than me go through it's just disgusting honestly
it honestly just boggles me that we are SUPPOSED to thank our bodies because they are our means of living
how did we get so far into this contorted culture that all we care about is "body goals" and how our bodies look?? not how they are our means of survival and how they make daily tasks happen, but how they look
just ask a disabled person how they feel about this and i'm sure they'd say that they'd give anything to have for example a pair of legs
that person wouldn't fucking care if the legs were big,or hairy or whatever
    they'd just want legs
and all this culture can value is the looks🤢🤢
anyway now i'm trying to work on having a healthier relationship with food(fuck diets) and on losing weight at the same time, for me though. i have a goal and i want to achieve it,plus sculpting my body makes me feel hella good. now i've been working out 5 times a week for the past 3 or 4 months and it honestly makes me feel so good, it especially helps with my depression. i send SO much love to people who are going through this and please don't let society tell you who you should be ❤️ love y'all

Stephanie, thank you so much for these videos. I wish I had had these when I was young. I am a 42 year old woman who has suffered with body issues since I can remember. My mom, who passed away at 58 also suffered from this my entire life. She worked out daily and heavily restricted what she ate. When she was in the hospital before she passed away I remember her telling my brother, who also suffers from body issues to eat whatever he wanted in moderation but to eat because life was too short to deprive yourself. I took that to heart and while I still have issues and work out 3 to 4 times a week, I can finally say I have accepted my body and appreciate it. It has allowed me to carry 3 beautiful babies and while it has changed significantly, it has also given me curves I never had before. I have stopped caring about what others think and work out more for myself than for the approval/acceptance of others. Again, thank you for your videos and please keep them coming because it is important for women to see this type of content.

This is really sad for me, partially because I was so happy to see a more "average-sized" woman being cast in a fantastic show (I LOVE "Only Murders in the Building"!), and I thought she looked beautiful and was thinking that everyone else thought so too, and partially because I just feel so sad that anyone should be treated this way. Regarding the monstera:🌿
-make sure she’s in bright indirect light.
-make sure the pot has drainage holes
-if the leaves turn yellow crusty, she’s dry. If the leaves turn yellow and squishy, she’s drowning
-take her out of the pot and remove the soil. If the roots are mushy and brown, she suffers root rot. In that case there’s loads of tutorials online to get rid of it. If they are white they’re healthy
-generally the soil a plant comes in isn’t the best quality, so buy a good quality soil (maybe mix it with perlite and orchid bark to make it airy, this prevents root rot) and plant in a planter big enough for its rootball
-water when the first 2 inches of the soil are dried out (just stick a finger in to test)
-when you water don’t just give it a splash but completely let the water come through the drainage holes (in the sink or bathtub) and let it drip out a couple minutes, then place back to its original spot
This is only what works for my plants 🪴
    Hope this helps ❤️

I receive unsolicited comments about my weight and appearance to this day, almost on a daily basis. Just wanted to put this out there to prove your point. It was never about being a certain way, it was always about just shaming women for their bodies and the way they were physically manifested onto this Earth, as if male bodies aren't strange at all... like there's something inherently wrong with our bodies, any trace of physical maturity in a woman is drilled into us as a "mistake". Think about that for a moment. It's alright though, all the more reason for any woman ever to just NOT CARE, and live their best lives. I’ve been working hard to shed the extra pounds to be this perfect skinny person again because my identity feels out of tact if that’s not what I am. Read that about Selena, her finally coming out about her lupus and felt so bad she had to go through getting fat shamed, when it was because of meds she has to take. The same with Britney for her mental illness, the papps were horrid to her
It boils down to the male gaze, and the healthiest thing you can do is don't give a fuck about what men think of your looks. It's about you and what you like and what makes you happy and confident. And it's about doing and living
And if a man (or a few women buy into it) give you that creepy once over, stare or sneer or make rude comments, call them out and switch that microscope 🔬 around onto their looks and their bodies - because a lot of the time, these creeps are extremely unattractive and are overweight and flawed themselves. I can assure you, it's quite effective. They don't like it, and it's a stress relief, I don't need the burden of their toxic shit. Here you go, Buddy, giving it back to you

I was told "I wouldn't take the medication if it made me gain weight" .... . This whole problem is completely out of control. I am still struggling with my health condition, but I will be all right. Unfortunately I have never forgotten, that people cared more about how I looked than whether I was healthy.

My bf told me today that he and his male friend from high school called a girl they are both friends with from hs as well fat because she gained 30 lbs in a few months after a breakup (long term relationship). Girl went from maybe 90-100 lbs to 130-140lbs. I immediately understood the body positive movement and why its so important. I told him, "So I'm fat?" Because same thing happened to me after we got together and I cooked more often. I said, "you got fat too then, look at yourself." We're both at healthy weight. I lectured him. He got quiet. There's more to it but that's the gist. How incredibly frustrating time we live in.

World is a cruel cruel place. Babies please take care of your physical, mental and emotional health. I hope everyone learns as soon as possible for them to love their own selves and realise no one will be like someone else. Evolution has worked really har for thousands of years to make sure of it.

I absolutely LOVE this so much.
Before I got pregnant I was the smallest I’ve ever been. Now I have stretch marks and mom belly. I had a hard time with it for a while, but I then asked myself “why”. I then realize that’s because when I woman gives birth, we expected to just ‘snap back’. I am not ashamed of my belly now. I made a beautiful little human and that in my options is what true beauty is.
Thank you for sharing these videos. 💕

Thank you ❤️🧡💛 please keep up the good work and spreading awareness about the reality of bodies... Let's hope it will become "common" mentality one day, because this entire engine running on shaming and cultural standards crushing individual people for existing is just crazy and absurd.

The new body " trend" should be to be healthy, it doesn't matter what your bodyshape is.

I really appreciate your channel. I started a channel about fashion and sometimes I find myself not posting videos because I’m so self critical of my “imperfect” body. It’s so stupid. The people throwing all this criticism around are hiding behind anonymous accounts and keyboards. I suspect their bodies aren’t “goals”.
