  • People riding a horse carriage on the CSX railroad crossing and a train comes. The horses freak out and the owner has a hard time controlling the. This train is in Walton Kentucky. Nobody was hurt and it wasn't as bad as it looked. The train was coming slowly and they could have gone into emergency if needed. The train never did make an emergency brake application and did not need to. It was not a close call. This video just shows the confusion that the bells and crossing gates caused to the poor horses.

Yeah, and if you think they were confused and hesitant after hearing the bells, just imagine what the horn of the train about to cross directly in front of them could have caused? Conductors have to blast at EVERY crossing. Horses do not like startling noise. Stop the carriage and risk the horses getting so startled that they bolt forwards right into the path of the MUCH CLOSER oncoming train or proceed to pass, while keeping a lookout for the train and taking care to not alarm the horses anymore than they are from those bells We were just talking about.

It's not the arms that are a problem. I grew up in a town with lots of rail If you've ever seen a car totaled by a train and the left over blood from the people that died in the accident it's awful. I've seen a car have an accident with one rail car in the car was demolished and the person died

That old guy has absolutely no business giving people rides ! People playing chickens with trains have absolutely no basic awareness of how things work. Trains can’t swerve. They can’t stop on a dime. They have way too much momentum and will break tractor trailers like tooth picks. Just stay the hell away from the tracks when those lights start flashing and the gates come down. That’s it. Period. Your sense of entitlement simply won’t work in front of a speeding train.

In the carrage drivers defense, from his position and as slow as he was going, the gates were up and no train was seen as he started across. Just bad timing. The lesson here is always have another person watching (and listening) down the tracks from the other side when moving slowly across a crossing.
