i met john a few years ago at a meet and greet where he was signing kid gorgeous vinyls and the way i got into his comedy was through my ex. it was a really short-lived but fucking awful relationship but the only good thing to come out of it was that he introduced me to john's standup. i told john this while he was signing my record and when i said, "it was a bad relationship, he cheated on me" and all of that, john said, "fuck that guy. i was gonna write 'fuck that guy' on your vinyl but i don't to include him in this. how do you spell your name?" and i was so nervous and said "sandra, you know, like sandra bullock," and he laughed, shook his head, and wrote "to sandra, "like sandra bullock" and signed his name. he really is a gem of a human being. i come back to this video once in a while when i feel down about myself about a guy not liking me or whatever even though i'm a grown ass woman myself. anyways. the world needs more men like john mulaney.
Sandra you deserve so much better! As awful as that relationship is I'm glad it was short, and you didn't waste decades on him. And if a guy doesn't like you, that's okay because you're an endearing, well-adjusted person and that will shine through to the right man when he comes along. Anyway, thank you for sharing that story. He sounds very charming.
@@assholebyginger thank you so much for this! you made my day. and yeah, he was super charming. he gave every single person who waited on the line a bit of his time and wasn't the usual robotic "sign, take a pic, and go" type of meet and greet. i hope he's doing well right now and getting the help and peace he very much deserves
I came here thinking it was going to be a comedy bit but instead I find him giving advice to teenage girls. Not disappointed because this just made me like him even more
Janine Marie Same! Not only is he a very funny guy, but this was really touching that he seems to genuinely want to give the best advice he can in a kind and direct manner. Sometimes it's hard for comedians to stop and be serious because a lot of times the humor is a mechanism for hiding their own insecurities, but this is nice to see. His career has really been going great lately and I can see why if he can be both an actual caring decent human, and a hilarious comedy writer/performer. When I found out that he was the SNL writer who helped create Bill Hader's Stefon character, AND that he is responsible for all the times Bill almost broke character cracking up at last minute additions to the script on the cue cards, I knew John Mulaney would be one to watch. I'm really surprised they never moved him into the cast.

he's so genuine and kind to these girls writing in with questions, it's wonderful. it's so nice to see someone i really admire treat young women respectfully and non-condescendingly, especially when it would have been really easy to get a laugh out of making fun of them. i just appreciate him so much and i wish that everyone could be as kind and fantastic as him.
I agree that he gave genuine and kind answers. I really liked that he told the person who made out with several people that it is okay to do that, and that she's not wrong. As long as she didn't end up hurting other people I don't think she did anything wrong and I think she should do it if it makes her happy and feel good. If it doesn't, and if she wishes she hadn't done it, then that's different. But, like John Mulaney was saying, she seems very strong, and she didn't really sound like she regretted it exactly, so I'm happy for her.
it's amazing, because most comedians default to funnyman mode even when it's not really necessary for them to do so. John Mulaney is one of the best comedians out there and yet for this specific video he chose to reply in seriousness, but with a smile and warmth. he's truly special. I love John.
Alex - Wow, right-winger who shows his utter contempt for women and demonstrates that he himself is the trash. What a shocker. PS No one cares what morons like you think but I will gladly pipe up when you idiots show up to spout off.
I was expecting something funny....but I was not disappointed. It's nice to see him as a serious man and he actually shows himself to be very intellectual and kind.
Thus just proves my theory that you have to be insightful to be funny at his level. Comedians can really view the human condition and just dissect it and it's absurd it is and that's what really makes them funny.
He is so sweet and genuine. He truly cares about these girls and what he’s saying to them. I liked him before, but My respect for John Mulaney just grew a lot.
The fact that he isn’t laughing at these young women coming to him for help. He’s actually respectfully giving them advice. It made me respect him so much more!!
Hahaha "Gee Mr. Mulaney...I don't know what to do. I said yes to two boys, and now I have two dates to the dance at The Hop! What should I do?" Yeah, you were right
The more I see of John Mulaney the more I like him. Here's guy who really seems to care about people. John, I hope people are as sensitive to you as you are to them. WIsh you much success and happiness. "One day at a time", buddy.
Oh my Goodness!!!! John Mulaney, you are not just a grown man, but THE man. Those are the best pieces of advice I've heard given to girls by a guys almost ever. You are going to make a wonderful father and clearly a fabulous husband.
As usual, I'm late to the party. Some of John's self-deprecating humor revolves around his physical childish appearance. He's just poking fun at himself without stating that he put the tie on with the intention to look more like a grown man instead of a 12 y.o. boy or Asian lady, which depends on the haircut.
It's 2021 and I come back to this video a lot. His voice is so gentle and his advice so sincere. It's also very nice to have someone tell you are deserving of love.
My absolute favorite comedian! How cool: 1) teens look up to John for advise, which gives me more hope for the youth today. and 2) He could be mean or annoyed by these questions like most adults or comedians, but he is nice and honest. My love levels just leveled up to max. Very cool John. Very cool.
***** i've listened to a lot of his standup all the way from " The Top Part" till the most recent " Comeback Kid" His Basketball story is pretty much me for most sports too haha " If you ever wanted to know if you can make grown men and women cry....yes, yes you can but only if it is preceded by playing Tom Jones' what's new Pussycat 11 times in a row"
This is kind of amazing. From John's standup he seems to be non committal about having kids but he seems so comfortable talking about issues that a teen would face that I think he'd be a natural parent or mentor. Only makes me love him more.
I have mad respect for John for treating this with seriousness. He's a very talented comedian and he could have just made jokes but instead he gave thoughtful, empathetic advice.
first off, john mulaney content i've never seen before! also hearing him give genuinely great relationship advice to people in their late teens is not something i knew i needed. it's so pure
