    Tim, I love you videos but this one brings up a question.
    The two ways you show to turn on and turn off the drive produce the same result but the first one is instantly recognizable as on-off and the second must be interpreted you might say. To the average person the first is easier to understand. Green button turns it on, red button turns it off. The second example has a latch which is not needed, otherwise they are the same. Both take two rungs. What is the benefit of using the harder to read method?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  Před 3 lety

      The second one is what you will more commonly see and allows for much more control flexibility when you go beyond a basic start stop.

      I don't believe the Micro800s support ADC (Automatic Device Configuration) so it would take quite a bit of work to set the drive parameters. If you need that feature, you probably need to look at a Compactlogix. Here is a video showing that feature. Curious, why do you need to set them on powerup? Is it just in case you need to replace a drive?

      @@TimWilborne correct,
      in the event of drive failure during production hours the maintenance crew will replace it and when they power up the panel it takes an additional 5 min to program the drive even if they have the "cheat sheet" for that machine
      as far as looking at CompactLogix the company cant afford swap out all the plc's to those at the moment
      the old automation tech was able to do it with a micrologix 1400 and an adaptor (i assume it was for Modbus) to set parameters on a power flex 4
      now just a guess on my part but can you send a write string or word to the powerflex something like a program variable?

    Hi Tim, Thanks for the video. I have done all of the steps in it. I can ping my controller from my PC and when I check the ip address of the drive it is 192.168.1.12 in the same subnet as the controller 192.168.1.10 and my PC. But I am getting communication error when I click on the connection tab of the drive. Don't know why? Thanks again

    I had many problems following this video i wanted to list some things for others who have the trainer and their Studio 5000 may have locked up and sent many errors to AB. I changed many things not 100% sure what did what.
    Program would not download deleted ethernet connection, only left ethernet IP active and changed to windows default driver. Took HMI out of run on config screen. The program seems to have problems with blank spaces on PLC and Drive descriptions.
    When downloaded I tried to double click on drive it stopped like yours but my powerflex connection was grayed out in use physical so i had to use project. Then I got error writing port 0 Parameter 122 value out of range. I clicked ok and then double clicked drive and all loaded properly.
    Also for others with trainer steps in video may not work for instance buttons on drive because this is already changed in drive to ethernet IP.
    Really not 100% sure how i got myself in so many problems but maybe some of these steps will help others

      Hi Dave. Yours should have already been set up for this but I know we had some issues with IP addresses. Try doing a factory reset as shown in the following video and see if that smooths out the steps.
