- The Open Upright MRI is a popular scanning option for claustrophobics who have been unable to finish a scan in a traditional MR machine. The Open Upright is unique because you aren’t lying on a table, but instead are positioned between two magnets. In many Open Upright scans you can even watch TV. You can see for yourself what the machine looks like and the various ways you could be situated during your scan. You’ll see examples of an:
-MRI of the Brain (in this scan a coil is placed over your head)
-MRI of the Shoulder (in this scan you are lying on side of interest but can turn you head to look out and watch TV)
-MRI of the Spine (in this scan you’ll have images taken in neutral, flexion and extension)

wow we really need this upright scan for my dad he is unable to lay down on the normal ones even when he as had sedation due to back and neck problems this is what he needs to get confirmation of what he as got why dont all hospitals have one of these it will help everyone who struggles with a normal mri scanner i know they cost many thousands of pounds but look at how much money is wasted on the day when it is found they can't do it due to illness or are petrified due to being so encased in the machine fantastic invention 👏👍
I wish we have this in my placed. Just had an axiety attacked being in the mri tunnel so I asked to be pulled out after 10 seconds of the 30 minuted procedure.
I have to do this tomorrow and I'm worried the coil may still be to much for me during the scan. I have SEVERE claustrophobia... I can't even go into a car wash most of the time.
Could I have my groin/hip scanned with an upright mri scanner
Why do they not have a Stand-Up MRI for your back/ spine? I have back pain when I'm standing up not laying down I lay down to remove my back pain
Can you do MRI on pelvis area without me laying on my back?.It is hard for me to lay on my back for more than 10 minutes. I tired both the conventional and tilted MRIs both requiring me lay on my back, and had to stop because of discomfort. Is it possible to undergo pelvis area MRI while standing or sitting? Please advise.
i still freaked out because that stupid thing they have to put on your head. i to get another one this month wondering if i take a valium before if that will help ?
I had them give me iv Valium at my upright mri location and that helped
Right!? Why would they think ah yes, this claustrophobic person who can’t go in an MRI machine will be fine with a cage over their head? THEY WONT!
Yes!
My head has been stuck in a forward posture and I cannot bring it up or back too much without a great deal of pain. I even took muscle relaxers and Xanax. Will I need to pull my neck back and my head up for this?
This so much better for spine
Video shows scan for shoulder in the open upright MRI but I am being told that you can not scan the shoulder. Which is it? Please clarify.
Can you accommodate a pacemaker patient?
Rayus in Maplewood and Woodbury clinics and i called them to cancel my appointment and they transferred to one person then send me to another place. Pick up and talk to the patients instead of ignoring them. Im should the other staff is good. Front desk staff wont give me a appointment down the line. Im never ever go there no more.

The brain scan video stops too soon. Would like to know if the chair rotates further than shown and the patient comes into a flat lying position?
Yes, it definitely looks like the chair keeps moving back and video ends. Remember it is called an upright MRI and thus people expect it to be at that position. The farther back the chair goes, the the issue of claustrophobia now becomes the issue again.
Indeed, I asked myself the same question.
I had the brain scan a couple of days ago and you are sitting up where you can watch television.
Iv had a closed one and I started to freak out
Space Alien , you’re not alone.
Me too, the damn guy had to manually slide me out
me too I've had four and the first one I made him take me out before he even started ...but the other three I just kept my eyes closed and made myself get thru ...but these upright ones look good!!
Can plus size use this machine or no
Yes. I think up to 400lbs. But it might be tight depending on how big you are.
@@99onetruediva I've got a spine mri today and I'm using open mri, I'm only 5'7'' but my shoulders are 30 inches wide. The last MRI I had burnt me. I got so hot that when I was through I was sure my clothing was smoking. Only the places that my body touched the tube, (My shoulders).
@@jumpercable20 You should be fine. I like this better because it is not a tube.
Boston needs one! Practically the medical capital of the United States and they don't even have one of these in the whole state. Unbelievable.
Where is this located?
Hi! Our centers in Creve Coeur, MO; St. Louis Park, MN; Woodbury, MN; Wauwatosa, WI; and Renton, WA have the Open Upright MRI. Let us know if you would like the contact information for any of these centers!
Every state should have at least one of these by now. Why not??
