This was the first model kit I ever built bought by my school teacher in primary school, it came in a plastic bag with a paper header containing the instructions. All us boys received an Airfix kit the girls a sewing kit. The date xmas 1966 I recall
the spitfire and bf109 has been airfix most popular models for a long long time
Hi, I've just watched your video and read the comments with great interest.
I have to ask you not be influenced by some of the comments that's been given (regarding this kit) because they are not correct.
First off I can tell you that this kit is definitely a retooling from 2009.
The reason I know is because I have the last released boxed kit of the old 1965 tooling (which was available right up until the early 2000's) and I've compared the sprue parts of this kit to the 2009 tooling and found that ALL the parts are different.
(1) The lower wings are one piece on the 'new' version, while on the 'older' kit these are two parts. This also means that the fuselage halves are very different from one kit to the other.
2) Not surprisingly the panel lines on the new kit are recessed while they are raised (rivets) on the older one.
(3) The pilot, pilot's seat, air intakes, undercarriage, under-wing cannon, bomb, rocket tubes, drop-tank, propeller parts and cockpit canopies are all obviously different when compared side by side (In the newer kit there's even a choice of canopies while there's only one in the old kit)
The bottom line is, while the subject matter of these kits (Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6) are the same, the parts are very different.
(A02029) The first release of the 2009 tooling had a choice of three decal schemes, (a)
Luftwaffe, (b) Italian Air Force and (c) post-war Finnish Air Force.
(A02029A) In 2016 it was re-issued with a choice of two new decal schemes (a) Luftwaffe
and (b) Swiss Air Force.
(A02029B) In 2021 it was re-issued again with a choice of two new decal schemes
(both Luftwaffe).
I'm lucky enough to have them all.
You'll notice that if Airfix re-issues a kit with different decals the kit serial number will remain the same but it will have a new suffix added (A, B etc.) This is worth remembering because if there's a letter on the end of a kit number you''ll know that it's a re-issue.
Anyway, I enjoyed watching your video. Thank you.
thanks for the detailed reply
i have now built this kit and the kit was a breeze to build and was simple enough
the decals are beautiful but are mostly the wrong size and take some work to get to fit
watch my video on it and you will see what i mean
looks cool, I've never seen that kit in particular with the red nose
yes it does make it stand out
Good review, although it provides a nice decal and scheme, sadly not quite up to standard as the cockpit just a seat, even bf109e3/e4 has better detail, hope they can make a new tooling for G6/G10/G14 series.
would be nice if they could do a new tool
I thought this was one of the better kits from the pre 2012 era when they started to look at pushing themselves.. Goes well together but the schemes are frightening to a the less experienced.. if i recall this one was 2009 and the released a E-4 a few years after which i'm sure was better. Let us know how you get on building yours
yes i will build it soon
i made a e3 starter kit bf109 and enjoyed that a lot so i am sure i will enjoy this kit as well
It makes me laugh all us modellers are never happier than when cleaning up flash or seam lines to make a kit perfect , it's about time we just admitted it, nowt wrong with the canopy either, build it, paint it , enjoy it , ❤from the red rose county.
your right we are happy when putting right things to make our models look better
one of the canopy has a small crack that i can see but was hard to get it on camera and another has a swirl blemish mark
the kit is nice to be honest and is still better than most revell kits i have built
Next week I'm making a Revell 1/144 F15 eagle i need a microscope and an atom slicer first, i bet the plastics brittle as he'll, wish me luck.
@@eddiebirdie1545 I know the feeling got 2 1/700 ships to do
Sadly this moulding was barely an improvement over the 1965 Bf 109G. Here's hoping they eventually make a G model that's on a par with their very nice 109E kit.
I agree I have done the bf109e and found it to be a well detailed kit and a joy to build
@@yorkshiremanmodels The 109E is a sublime little kit!
Yorkshire open air museum have the full scale job 👍👍👍
nice one
will have to have a visit at some point
@@yorkshiremanmodels Well worth the visit tbh pick as sunny day cant go wrong and theres a cafe. I believe the airfield was run by the free french airforce.
@@theowdgit9790 will have to take my grandson he loves aircraft and at only 2 years old hes into trains as well so a day at the air museum and train museum nearby will certainly keep him and me happy
I feel like the £11.99 they are asking for this is double what its worth, like the cockpit is a seat and a pilot, nothing more. The Airfix Fw190 A8 they sell on their website for £8.99, and its far far far more detailed coming with, not only more for a cockpit, but also alot of the knobs and dials are either molded into the plastic or are supplied via decals
Comparing to other Bf109s, the AZ model are sold generally for around £10-£14, come with a full cockpit, plus alot of detail molded into the plastic
This is just a re-skinned and re-released version of their old Bf109 G6 which has seen 2 prior releases, had they completely overhauled the model, and brought it up to their usual current standards then £12 is reasonable but... I can't say I will get this unless its super cheap
honestly it should be a starter kit set
its a easy build with very few parts to it
its got great decals but is too expensive
in my view its a £7 to £8 kit at best but ive bought it now so will do it and try my best
@@yorkshiremanmodels I agree completely
Certainly it was not a new release.
yes its new decals slapped on a very old kit
i am building it at the moment and it took me around 1hr to get it to the painting external stage
@@yorkshiremanmodels A notorious challenge,indeed. Luck
Effectively this seems a very old kit, a re-issue of an old one of the"blister" era, without interior detail. It has also the old rocket launchers under the wings, alternative to the guns
@@alessiodecarolis gotta agree there
its a old kit shoved out as a rebox
It’s ME-109. 🤣😂🤣😂
I have always wondered what is british model kit makers afraid of, when they always offer us German plane models without tail swastika.
Ancient FROG was a rare exception...
Think they are worried about selling in the country where swastikas are banned
I personally think they should be included for historic reason because the models we build are marketed as not being a toy
If I remember, early Matchbox Me109s had the swastika, I build one for my brother in desert camo
Crap ! No cockpit detail .
certainly not what you expect from airfix
@@yorkshiremanmodels I've completed it and on outside its great if in flyt but as a gear down its not worth the price should be in there vintage line ! And with a price to match it .
@@glyndaley5844 have to agree it's a bit of a rip off
I completed it and it looks ok but there is better for similar money
@@yorkshiremanmodels I got it 4 the red nose art decal I added swastikas why thay still omit them is bonkers as its a historic modal outdated political stuff
@@glyndaley5844 you still get them with some manufacturers
the kit colour schemes are excellent and germany had some of the best from ww2
