    in this video we finish the build and paint the airfix kit using the paints and brushes supplied
    do i make a good job of it? well thats for you to decide but i do hope it shows what can be achieved with the starter sets and a few household items

    Wonderful result using only basic tools! I also have this kit and was going to go for the mostly silver paint job, but I think the flat green version you did here really makes the decals pop! Great job!

    Aye up! I put a bit of Blu tack or 'silly putty' on a cocktail stick to hold and apply the clear parts. That way you avoid fingerprints and fingersticks... 😎 BTW: The best way to get superglue off skin is with WD-40 -- or just rip their hands off the pavement 😁. I think you used more paint than the kit itself cost, but it's a great example of what can be done with an inexpensive kit! Good job!

    Great job mate. I do sometimes despare of the paints supplied in starter kits. The dropper bottles from Humbrol are fine but the ones in the starter kits are simply awful. Keep up the great work 👍

      i had to complain recently to humbrol but credit to them they sent me all the paints that had dried up

    Hiya man, for gluing canopies i would recommend PVA glue, no problem with fogging and you can take the canopy off again no problem, by the way brilliant result very nicely done.

      Used it before and it's fantastic for it but you can't touch the model for a few hours till it's set
      Used to have some canopy glue but that for some reason has disappeared lol

      @@yorkshiremanmodels Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Setting is good for canopies and sets - as the name suggests - very quickly. No fogging if you just apply a tiny amount.

      @@jameswoollard84 i have never tried it with tiny amounts like that
      tried a couple times in past to use it like normal and the canopy fogged up and may have been down to too much glue
      thanks for the tip

    A drop of washing up liquid in the mix works a treat because it breaks the surface tension, which is why your paint's beading up. Also, as you say, some Humbrol acrylics do cover really well first coat, so why not use them as a 'primer' or basecoat? The troublesome ones will go down much easier over a painted surface rather than bare plastic

  • @jameswoollard84
    @jameswoollard84 Před 2 lety +3

    The Humbrol Acrylics only need a tiny amount of the acrylic thinner in my experience. I tend to airbrush but the paint breaks up if you add 50:50. I tend to do about 70:30 in favour of the paint with Humbrol acrylics.

    • @yorkshiremanmodels
      @yorkshiremanmodels  Před 2 lety

      i mostly airbrush as well and i cant knock the humbrol acrylics as they do brush ok
      i may have over thinned the paint but i am also never sure how much the paint has dried in the tiny pots
      those tiny pots are rubbish and i have never had any problem with the normal sized pots

    Nice! Love dark green overalls top, just like our CL41G Tebuan CAS jet back in 70s. And off course I like Lightning & Javelin very much, old jets is fantastic

      your right there
      some of the pe sets and aftermarket detail sets can be more expensive than the kit itself is
