Airfix have released (2019) the early model D kit separately. The two tail fins in this kit are (1) the early "Kitset" tail which was applied at Unit level to the filletless tail model, and the factory fitted version which differs very slightly in outline. (The earlier kitset version was referred to as a "Swayback" because it curves gently from the fuselage up to the fin join (barely visible in 1/48!) Check the position of the panel lines on the fin, they differ slightly. The later tailfin is a straight line until the bend on the fin. The new kit (A05138) gives you the filletless tail but still includes the other tailfins in the box, making it IMHO, the best version to get. Airfix have also released a boxing of the Post War F-51D with the cuffless HS propeller and Korean Marking. That version includes HVAR rockets. The final version is an RAF/Commonwealth P-51D/K, but I am not sure what it includes as I have not yet bought it. (Maybe an Aeroproducts prop??)

I'm actually working on the lower scale version of the P-51D that I saw for £5 in a local supermarket...Haven't built a kit in years so it's bound to get messy.

I've brought a hurricane, Cromwell tank and churchill. however stuck 1/3 the way into assembly of my first which is the hurricane as I don't have the points and once ok assemble further painting will be impossible . also disappointed with Amazon, both thanks are tiny 1:72, the first I brought I read dimensions in product description and it gave the box size so next purchase I looked into it more and there were a 2nd dimensions which are smaller I assumed would be assembled size but no, it was the same size as the other and the dimensions given were the size of the parts this (height and length). did loads as a kid and the tanks were my fave so going to try fi8nd bigger ones. fancied taking this up again due to your videos. defo getting paint before going further as don't want to ruin it!

Your right about being seen but when they adopted the merlin engine they had a distinctive engine sound. The bigger engine gave them more speed and climb capability. The spitfire was a game changer in ww2 along with the hurricanes and the mustang. All squadrons in the european theatre had markings of some sought i have seen many nose spinners of different colours but not many other colour markings. Stuart Palmer Adelaide Sth Australia

P-40 is a fav? I did a P-40 inspired Peterbilt build with the checker tail’s paint scheme, was a lot of fun.
This looks like a nice kit, I will have to watch the rest of the series.

Are you going to paint this one up like the Tuskegee air man plane? If so that would be awesome but wich one to pick lol?

    Jersey Jerk is so nice..
Not the fav kit, I probably prefer Tamiya´s, Hasegawa´s and i guess, Eduards, but i have not built that one.
Airfix was.. Soft in the plastic, had a weird tail that gets twisted.. A bit too deep and big panel lines, especially on the nose.
It is okay but the others, I prefer more..
Now, that is a bunch of Mustangs.. ^^
    P-47s were pretty crazy too..

I think the second tail is the swayback one?
And there is a separate box for the fillet-less tail?
