- Grimms' Fairy Tales, originally known as the Children's and Household Tales, is a German collection of fairy tales by the Grimm brothers.
There are two versions of the story "How Some Children Played at Slaughter!ng)". Both are so horrific and were actually taken out of most modern versions of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. - Zábava
Which story should Großpapa tell next?
The inky boys. Idc if the vid will get demonitised. I need to see your recap of the story.
Vom Räuberbräutigam please! Fitchers Vogel is also lovely.
Alles aus'm Stuwwelpeter ist gut 👍🏼
He should tell the story of Max and Moritz, preferably the teacher story.
Fippchen Fäppchen. We need more Bechstein representation
“Two of our children are… three of our children are dea…” this is too good

It takes a true wordsmith to write a sentence that is simultaneously the most British and most German thing ever uttered...
Hivemind. I was thinking the same thing.
How so?
you mean a wordschmidt
Fun fact: this story appears only in the first version of Grimms tales; it was considered traumatizing even at its time, and he removed it in later versions.
And it is more like a real story that happened and less a fairy tale.
TBH after reading the original its just a bad story.
But why there was such a tragic story?
Oh come on! I'll tell him with my Tim machine (if I have one) that the traumatizing stories and movies are on trending nowadays.
There's also two versions, this is version 2 and feels more like something that actually happened; Version 1 feels more like a fucked up fable.
The moral of every German bedtime story is "Do not ask me for more bedtime stories."
Kinda the opposite :D
In this one it's
For the Parents:
Be careful what you tell your Children
and what you let them see
for they may see things
they aren't yet able to understand
and then do wrong
For the Children it's:
Be careful what you're playing
for you might hurt yourself or others
and if ypu get hurt not only you
but your parents will be hurt too.
Grimm tried to justify his tale
by saying it made him be more careful
when playing with others.
I remember being a young child, walking into a book store and asking for a complete collection of Grimm's. I flipped to a random page and this was the story on which I landed. It has haunted for years and nobody believed me it was real.
It was actually removed in the second edition, and isn't in most modern collections, so you're lucky it was there i guess

"Wie Kinder Schlachtens miteinander gespielt haben" is the title of the fairy tale and the story is on point. A weird one for sure.
_"...And then the butcher died of a broken heart The End."_
The delivery of that line was absolutely *perfect!*
Y’all have really stepped up the editing on these. They feel so professional and legit. I’m impressed. 🙌

I love german fairy tales they are just so umm... whimsical.
Such a heart touching story. Touched the hearts of the two boys too hard.
As a kid in Germany I thought the Struwwelpeter was awful, but what really did me in was a collection of fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen. Since then I always thought the Danish were hardcore compared to the Germans.. Highlights included a story of giants killing and eating a family and the little match girl freezing to death all alone on the streets ☹️
The little match girl is the saddest story but beautifully written.
How could you possibly forget "The girl who trod on a loaf"! A girl steps on bread and goes to hell. The happy ending is her turning into a bird and flying into the sun. It's wild.
Oh, yeah, in Poland we got the match girl freezing story too. I was really uncomfortable with it 😅.
So many laughs, but that A24 pitch meeting line had me howling.
I was surprised more people didn't mention this 😂
Don't get it, can you please explain it to me?

A24 is also famous for its artistic horror films known for being psychologically disturbing and mind-bending. They are considered as a pioneer in modern horror and often referred to as "elevated horror".
Reminds me of a conversation I had in D&D. My character was a fantasy Hanseatic merchant whom for complicated reasons was along for a fantasy Viking raid. After pillaging and occupying a town and killing the garrison, our group had to go searching in the woods. The conversation went something like
My character: You know, I am rather concerned about that strange magic woman we ran into. It reminds me of a story from my people called Hansel and Gretel.
PC sorcerer: What happens in this story?
My character: Well there is a farmer with a son and a daughter named Hansel and Gretel. His wife dies after getting sick, so he remarries to a horrid woman. He finds that he cant afford to feed both his new wife and children, so he decides to abandon his children deep in the woods where they will starve to death. After freezing and starving in the woods for a few days, they try to kill a bird who flies over a house made of candy. The old woman who lives there offers the children warm beds and hot food, so the children kill the woman by pushing her into her own oven while she is heating it up. With the woman dead, the children take all her gold and walk home. They then find out that the stepmother has unexpectedly died in their absence and celebrate her death with their father. They then use the forest woman's money to live happily ever after.
PC sorcerer: Your people are seriously messed up.
PC ranger: I don't think we will run into any murderous children here.
My character: No, you don't understand. The old woman was the villain of the story.
PC sorcerer: That only reinforces what I said!
My character: No, you don't understand, the old woman eats children.
PC Cleric: First off, why is eating children considered normal enough not to mention? And second, why is there an abundance of abandoned children in the woods to keep her fed? There is something seriously wrong with your people.
That dad is so lucky, he barely escaped death!
But he died of a broken heart
Aww such a heartwarming wholesome story.
I feel sorry for the 2nd child. He was stabbed in the heart. Now, if his heart was on the left side as it is for most of us, he might have lived

Aah I remember this one from when I was a child. Although in my Version there was at least one more child. After the First one got slaughtered they Put the child playing the butcher before court. By letting him choose between an Apple and a scepter they determined He didn't understand concepts Like Power or death so they let him Go. But because apperantly No one thought to Tell him Not to Stab people He convinced the Others to Play the Game again. The outcome was the Same though

Another German storytime, how wonderful.
"Two of our children... THREE of our children...!"
Classic! XD
as soon as he said the whole children started slacking, I knew that they were goners.
It's interesting. We have some version of this story as a urban legend in our hometown (it's in Upper Silesia, so now in Poland, but a part of Germany for a long time).
The main difference is the 2 boys killed the baby playing the butcher, than mother saw what they did and killed them, then father came, and killed the wife. After the realisation what had he done, the father took the bodies of his family on a wagon and went to Częstochowa (it's a little over 30 km on foot), where the famous sanctuary is, and begged people to pray for a miracle. After some time his whole family was brought back to life and they went back home to live happily together
Haha, what the actual fuck. That's even weirder somehow, super traumatizing story but with a happy end.
Can’t spell slaughter without laughter xD
Mittagsruhe, ihr habt doch echt 'nen Schaden. Ich liebe euch so sehr! 😀
Oh, you did my favorite Grimm story.
I’m not being facetious, this is my favorite. Two smiling brothers come up to you and tell you they’ll give you gold if you tell them a story they haven’t heard. What would you tell them? THIS? Would you tell them THIS? I’d love to know who came up with this one, and speculate wildly about what their medical diagnosis could have been.
This acting is ON POINT
Your culture is so full of insights! Good on you for passing them down to the younger generations
My father used to tell me this story when I was a child. It was always one of my favorites.
I was waiting for you two to enact this great fairytale. Love it :D
Mother stepping over her "son" to stab her other son is so funny
on behalf of children of all ages traumatized forever by the translations of your fairytales - danke schoen

please do "ein mops kam in die küche" it's so funny cause it repeats endlessly and you know. Something dies. fun. I am traumatized

But this one, this got me laugh the hardest.
You were my brother Anakin!
Orgelspieler von Max und Moritz! The picture of his head without a face traumatized me when I first saw it... at the age of 20.
The polite bow at the end always gets me :^)
The other version is where the "butcher" is sent to court. The judge doesn't know what to do, because the butcher is a child. A wise old man says they should test him whether he will pick a ripe apple or a gold coin, which will decide how developed the child's mind is. The butcher picks the apple, and he gets away with the murder.
This makes my day special thanks for bedtime story
My grandmother during the 40s lived near a farm building where pigs were slaughtered. Some neighborhood boys snuck in there and played "butcher and pig"
Luckily my grandmother passed by,heard some sounds and arrived just as they were about to use the killing tool on on one of the boys.
I love those stories video!
I love that even whenever the hell this story takes place, they had Mittagsruhe and adhered to it.😂
This is one of my favorite Grimms fairy tale stories! You should do the Juniper tree!
Never stop making these XD

Our generation: ...Happy Tree Friends.
I don't know why I'm laughing so hard, I'm not even in the cellar rn.
This is almost too good, love it 😀

Calvin and Habs should make this into an A24 pitch meeting.
What is A24? I am too american to look it up.
I mean, a24 will never run out of ideas as long as the German fairytales are around.
And they all learned a lesson. That's why they only died once!
Classic German Happy Ending!
“It was too late. The 3rd child had already drowned in the bathtub”
That shouldn’t be as funny as it was 🤣🤣🤣
Missed opportunity to say "stabbed in the heart and you're to blame"
i like how calvin is in a wig to play the little kid, and then habs is just habs
This explains a lot, actually.

Dark ages were 1,000 years before the Grimms.

Have you heard the german tale of Tall Klaus and small Klaus ? Lots of killing there, it was my favourite bedtime story ngl
Edit: I think in total 6 Horses die, 2 grandmothers and two men die 😅
Wait so grandfather in German sounds like “gross papa”?
Groß
Papa
but yes :D
Nothing to do with the English word for „disgusting“ but pretty much the same pronounciation.
„Gross“ (or correctly spelled „Groß“) means „Big / Tall“ in German, referring to a person’s size / height.
NOT to confuse with fat people! We just call those thick or fat, not „big“ as Americans would say to sound polite.
But in the context of family relation „groß“ means „grand“ as in „grandfather“.
I am big (tall, not fat!) = Ich bin groß.
I am a Grandfather = Ich bin ein Großvater
Danke. Gute Night.
the "get the fuck out of my room" part always makes with chuckle XD
That one fairytale, was even considered to f'ed up back then, and got removed from Grim tales.
