I find Ridley as a character fascinating. He looks like he's a big brainless murder dinosaur that kills when he's hungry, but in reality, he's sadistic, extremely intelligent and vicious. He doesn't do these things because he's a monster, but because he's a sociopath.
It's like a serial killer in a giant pterodactyl body, a really bad combination.

This is actually really well reflected in his moveset, he uses all his limbs for attacks, all of them, even the ones that could be the most easily damaged, it is like he's a evil master mind trapped in a body built for killing, to think he might have an entire species... Wait...
Ridley's my favorite villain in Smash for this reason. He's a real villain. He's evil in it's purest form.

My two personal favourite animations are his idle animation where he makes and inquisitive thinking pose, which breaks the illusion that he is just a mindless beast, and his standing up animation because not only does it show his colossal size but his expression is pure gold.

When you say he is almost the height of Samus it’s actually accurate since Ridley in Metroid on the NES was kind of the same thing.

His side special in particular is really interesting since it references Other M, where Ridley drags Samus against a wall... which is a reference to Brawl where he does the exact same thing. Including it is both a callback to Smash AND Metroid! And honestly, the sheer brutality of it in general is extremely fitting.

@@skaionex He has a habit of holding Samus in his claws, but dragging her against a wall is a Smash/Other M original. And makes more sense that it does damage than what we see him (not) do in 2D.

The new DK is a hero. He isn't the "bad guy" in any games since Mario vs Donkey Kong. DK lll is and will always be a hero

I feel like Ridley's final smash is meant to be reminiscent of the ending fake-out in Zero Mission. I realise it was a shot fired by Space Pirates - no way it was Ridley himself, he's dead by then - but the concept is the same - a Space Pirate blasts straight through Samus' ship.
as cool as his cinematic final smash is....i still think it should have been him flying into the screen,followed by a brief countdown to the stage blowing up.

Ridley being about the same size as Samus is actually a callback to his original appearance as a boss where he isn't much bigger than samus. It's only the later games that upscaled him to sort of fit that boss - dragon motif. I think its part of the reason why fans clamored that he could be implemented.
It's also mostly because of the Melee intro that portrayed him at a perfectly reasonable size compared to Samus.
Until people dismissed it as "It'S oNLy a 5 SecONds cLIp."

@@Hayds126 Ridley is very bony and has paper thin wings and very little muscle mass, and we see from Other M and from his noises that Ridley is very avian in a lot of ways. It's not out of the question to think that Ridley's bones (which make up most of his mass) could be hollow like bird bones are, making him a bit lighter than Samus weighed down by her super heavy armor.
If it's only one appearance, it's not that big of a character detail.

If Ridley is the Nintendo's recurring menacing villain, Dedede is just....not a villain at all really.
You are absolutly right. Dedede has only been the villain in the first Kirby game. He has never been bad again after that. In evey other game the fight with him is an missunderstanding, like in Kirbys Adventure where he has defited the villain before the start of the game, but Kirby belive that he is doing somthing bad and frees him only to defite him again.
@@eventyraren Normally, DeDeDe is either being a dick or is possessed, or both in the case of Kirby 64.
In the earlier games he was just selfish and very hungry, but the newer games seems to gravitate towards him being possessed.
Actually, all bosses (not counting story bosses) in Star Allies are just possessed.

Y'all are likely joking but lets face it, if dedede didnt place the medallions on luigi and Ness back in his castle area, the story would have been pointless. Plus, who managed to stop Tabuu from turning the fighters into trophies again? Sonic. So in a way both dedede and sonic were the ones that were partially heroes of the subspace story. But in the end, all fighters in smash bros stories can be heroes, cuz they stop the evil forces, by joining forces, whether it be a good friend, or an enternal rival. There's no piercing the legend of the smash fighters. They will move forward, and WILL succeed. All they ask for, is the players guidance, to lead them all, to victory.

i think that ridleys final smash comes from metroid zero mission, where samus her ship got blown to pieces, not by ridley, but other space pirates.

Ridley isn’t misunderstood. In the games Ridley is a monster. They don’t call him “cunning god of death” for nothing. I mean it already is fucked up, to think that someone ate your parents, but then bragging about it and shoving it into your face afterwards really crosses the line. Not only that but he is continuing to be your tormentor just out of a sadistic revenge scheme. And that is just plain evil. The other issue is that he just keeps getting back. Even after his final death in Super he managed come back twice from the grabe. Once as a newborn clone, and the other time as an parasitically enhanced organism.

Canon size doesn't matter, what does matter is the proportions of the characters' designs being aethetically pleasing.
Olimar, Charizard, Lucario, etc, were all made to be larger in Smash, but their proportions after being sized up still fit the rest of the cast so they look fine. However Ridley's design causes his proportions to still look a little funny in Smash.

I've got to be honest, when I heard you were recruiting the help of others for know your moves, I was afraid that the "feel" of the series as a whole would change and it wouldn't have that Alax touch. Boy was I wrong. This is fantastic. The editing was astounding and in apt of shots, as complex as the multiple layers you did on some of your older videos. The dialogue and naration felt like you. I'm really glad to see the series back. And I know the extra help means it will only get better.

Kirby is so small he couldn't be fought, while Ridley is so big he couldn't fight.
Kirby is cute, masking his true power, while Ridley is very bare about his monstrositaciousness.
Kirby is the protagonist of his series, with some form of moral compass, while Ridley is the antag who doesn't.
Ridley to Samus is Whispy Woods to Kirby, but Kirby to Nightmare is Samus to Ridley.

Glad to have this series back, but how did you forget to mention Ridley dragging opponents across the surface of the stage? That’s one of his two most iconic Smash moves.
You did a Know Your Moves with my favorite main in all of my Smash game play combined and it took me a whole day to notice... I must be slipping.
